Kenshi has to be one of my favourite games ever

Enters room, effortlessly ganks the final boss npc, trains stats a bit, gets bored, leaves the boss alive and armed and fucks off. Real kenshi moment right there

Fun fact: The soundtrack for Kenshi is actually very short music bits put together by the game and what plays depends on several factors such as player actions/decisions, location, and possibly the faction in charge of the region.

I love Kenshi, it reminds me of the first time I played Morrowind. Hopefully when Kenshi 2 comes out I have a less barebones pc

Its like The Sims, but with combat, while in a desert. Also some japanese theme going on.

That bar fight was amazing. It went from a simple bar fight, to a multi-person bar brawl, to a gang fight on the streets in front of the bar, to a gang turf war, to all out chaos and anarchy all over the town, then back to business as usual at the bar like nothing happened. Masterful.

Playing this game has got me thinking that, in a lot of ways, the skeletons are the true villains of the story. Semi-repentant and remorseful villains, but villains nonetheless. Like post WW2 Nazis that never age, and have an eternity to reflect on what they have done. No new skeletons can be created, not since before the old empire, meaning all the currently existing skeletons are the same ones that were involved in, and directly complicit in the downfall of Kenshi and the cataclysms. The near genocide of all of humanity.

You were right to kick the shit out of Cat-Lon.

The game strongly implies that skeletons as a whole may be directly responsible for both major cataclysms, and are engaged in a cover up to suppress knowledge of their role in it (it's implied that the reset doesn't actually wipe their brains, it's just a cover story), and hold back humanity's technological progress (whether maliciously, or to prevent another apocalypse, hard to say), leaving the moon of Kenshi in a static tech state and downward spiral. In a lot of ways, the Holy Nation and the Bugmaster are the way they are because of this. The shek definitely, as they were engineered as enforcers of the second empire, but ended up taking their genome-programming and dialing it up to eleven without the guidance of the second empire. And in a lot of ways, these factions are correct in their anti-skeleton views (except the HN anti-women part, haven't found out what's up with that yet.).

Broken people in a broken world. This game is suprisingly deep.

I wish there were more games like Kenshi. Truly an indie masterpiece. Can't wait for Kenshi 2

Play the game zoomed in as if playing KOTOR or Mass Effect, never zoom out except if have too, feels like different game, the scope is amazing, largest RPG that's not procedurally generated. And so many beautiful vistas and atmosphere. The whole zoom out and play on sp3 to you get ambushed ruins immersion after a while.

Never forget what the skeletons did, they still feel regret to this day.

I know im a year late but WOW, what a good video, man! i love your method of story telling, a little humor and a little pessimism (or is it pragmaticism?🤔) all to accurately portray kenshi for the truly limitless, yet soul crushing rpg that it is. Well done, mate. Immediate edit, also, the way you actually explain the game and its many parts, the races, the cultures, the many varied peoples of many varied lands. All without sacrificing time for exposition, it flows so well.

I've heard good things about this game, but this video really made me want to play it. Great narration, Warlockracy 👍

this is the best game.

There's such a delightfully horrible mental image in a robot skeleton performing surgery on a wounded man explicitly because he doesn't know how to perform surgery and wants to figure it out.

digging your videos dude. the one about Fallout 2 was spot on and im glad i found this one. you just made me convince myself to try it. in fact its on steam sale right now but for the amazing dev i will wait until its back to full price and buy it then. cheers!

fun game. I remember it taking forever to lvl up and I had to continue on with my real life.

I can't believe I held off on Kenshi for so long. Had I seen your video sooner I would've bought, but I only got it 2 months ago. I'm hooked like I haven't been hooked in years, maybe since witcher 3. I wanna touch grass, damnit kenshi!

I been playing Kenshi for a year and a half and i never even got to defeat any major boss, and its because i refuse to save scum, i want my actions and mistake to not go unpunished.. i tried to play save scuming and i made a triving outpost but none of it felt deserved.
This game is everything i wanted, makes you feel like a nobody and makes you work for it if you want to be strong and it feels so satysfying when you get there.

some lore notes:

Kenshi is actually post-post-post apocalyptic
the skeletons were built by the 1st empire. after it fell to civil war, the technology required to build skeletons was lost. all of them are thousands of years old, and while the game mentions they occasionally wipe their memory, it's also implied through dialogues with the 2nd in command of the mechanists that the memory wipes are a lie they tell humans to absolve themselves of what happened during the reign of the 2nd empire (see: description of general Jang's CPU). mad cat-lon was definitely the leader of the 2nd empire. he admits it during his monologue, and i believe it explicitly states as much in the description of his CPU. also, those headless skeletons wandering in the Ashlands are his thralls. he removed their heads to prevent them from thinking for themselves as punishment for their "treason." it's worth noting cat-lon was driven insane during his reign as emperor of the 2nd empire due to trying to manage humans. he was not the monster. also the shek are likely descendants of the "enforcers," a group of humans genetically modified by the skeletons of the 2nd empire to serve as protectors against pirates and cannibals. also the bugmaster resides in arach, watchers rim is just the rim of the crater of arach. finally, that body of water you mentioned is called an ocean.

non-lore fact: when u take people's weapons away, you end up training your attack skill vs their dodge skill rather than their defense skill. that's why cat-lon and the dust king weren't very good training dummies.

The game does have an objective despite what people say. The primary objective is to build a colony and expand, indefinitely. Explore the world, recruit npcs, and destroy or ally with major factions. Loot, loot, loot. Bring it all home, expand, repeat. Once you have had your fill of glory, the game is finished.

Kenshi is one of these games where mods really do help a lot, to the point is almost needed. Skyrim and Fallout after 2 were another one, but kenshi tops them in the need of mods. The game was developed by a single person, it's not him to blame for the bugs, mid mechanics and lack of content. I'm talking about end game btw, that's where most players start to notice these fails.

But, Kenshi is getting a sequel (which is actually a prequel), and Lo-Fi games now has a real team, working on a different engine (unreal? I don't remember, but a more known and easier to work than the other). So we can all hope that most of the stuff Kenshi lacks or doesn't do right at 100%, gets fixed in the next game.

I wasn't expecting a surprise Swordflight review! xD

'RUNS WELL' uses ONLY 2 cores, and 4gb ram, cant handle mods..

One of the best ways to play Kenshi. No mods, vanilla, it never gets old. Throw some mods in.... oh my the spicy endless hours one can have. <3 it

Kenshi, like Star Wars, but with less Jedis, less saga, less wars, less everything, and pain in SPADES.

I wish the dev had dedication to this title, like Dwarf Fortress for example : I'd love to see this world get deeper, bigger and more involved year after year....

Take the High Lord Pheonix. Remove his limbs, and replace them with robot limbs. He's now an apostate to his faith.

A variety of playstyles? That's a massive understatement.. my best playthrough yet I became the Dogmaster started as lowlife scum working in the quarries of rebirth and ended up owning more than 50 elder dogs which I sicced upon the holy nation first then the rest of the world.

I love the idea of a character kidnapping important/powerful individuals just to duel them and train

I'm still not entirely sure Kenshi actually exists. It's just so... surreal.

I enjoy the extended highlight each time our protagonist stands inert beside an unconscious body, waiting for it to start moving so as to be dueled.

I have played the game in so many ways...
