If you decide to drive to Darwin again or you feel like going to Alice Springs with a bit more adventure than can be found on the asphalt roads, try driving the Sandover Highway. It is more of a camping trip as accommodation is scarce for most of the trip. If a trip to Alice Springs is on your horizon, travel west via the Sandover Highway and return via the Plenty Highway. Beware there is a risk! You may never want to go home! A stunning trip!

I was born n bred in brisbane then moved up to darwin for my bf at the time who is now my husband and also just recently did the trip over xmas with our 2 yr old daughter

Kangaroos are not attracted to lights at night. They are just more active at night and their trails were there before the roads. Just don’t drive from twilight to the end of dawn as it’s not just Kangaroos that are active at night.
