Fuji X100V | Too Much Hype?

whenever I watch video made by pro photographers on any topic it's just blow my mind how good they are. the lighting the shuttle music. it's so sensual its feel like am watching a ASMR porn. kudos to you man

For the price of this camera you could get a good fuji camera instead.

The camera doesn't matter. It is the photographer's eye and his/her ability to capture an image that fully encapsulates the photographer's visualisation of the scene that matters.

This camera is ridiculously overpriced, hinders creativity with fixed lens, terrible ergonomics, mediocre IQ and there are so many better other options. Having a fixed lens and using a digital computation is well, not good. Agreed low light is on par with a cellphone. It's merrily a cultist obsession generating hype. I found it to be missing so much and after a few months I sold it for twice what I paid.

I'm currently saving for one I have an xt5 which I love love one four just walk about photography say stopping on the side of the road when I'm driving and seeing something interesting I've seen a few on Facebook Marketplace as well as people sell them to upgrade but I already have the upgraded xt5 so this was always going to be my second fuji camera

people like it cause of the built-in presets... big deal just like Leica stuck with one lens you can not change, only the simple minded amongst us would be tied to gear like that.. Modern day snowflakes are a joke..

The only bad thing about the camera is that the wireless feature to send yourself the photos with the app is garbage

I've been looking for a camera for personal use and I think this is the one. I was actually planning on buying the Sony ZV e10, but this video sold me. The thing is, it's out of stock everywhere here in Canada

Camera is not worth a single cent over $999USD. Dont buy into the hype.

But any Fujifilm camera has jpeg options. I have the XH2 and would never trade it for anything with lesser autofocus capabilities.

Unpopular opinion, they should gut the x100 series, restart their x-e series back with the left over scrap and resources.

I think people forget its the film simulations that sell this thing. The Ricoh is meant for a beginner/average photographer who wants decent colors and a quick experience. The display is horrible and no viewfinder is frustrating. Fujis colors stomp Ricohs and those film sims are crisp, plus that 35 is a much nicer focal length. Would never go back too the Ricoh!!!

Somehow started getting videos on this camera and it sounds so amazing but holy fxck it is insane how crazy prices for it went up… guess I’ll be waiting for a while to even consider getting it :]

The only cameras that left a sad feeling once i sold them were gr,q and rx1. Couldn't connect with x100 series, you can get the same result with more practical bodies, and lens has no particular strength. İts pure romanticism and hence over hyped

Fuji cameras whether digital or film just makes you WANT to go out and shoot.

Hi Edward, I love watching your videos man. I don't know a lot about cameras, but I want to start with and get a camera. I like your review about the Fuji X100V, but if image stabilization is difficult... I don't know then. I am also looking at the Fujifilm X-S10. Which one (or other Fuji) is easy to use and would you recommend? For me it's important to have a good focus on the camera (to take easy, random pictures without much of a hassle. Looking forward to your answer.

Love all these influencers hyping up products to the point you can’t even get them anymore and then then turn around and make videos asking if they’re too hyped.

Film sims jpeg have been always also possible on Ricoh and Sony, and recently Panasonic,
plus now Leica Q3.

What would you recommend for a similar compact but better at low light ? 😢 I love this one but I shoot often on the go at night

Seems great wish it was cheaper! I am looking for camera like this but one that costs half of this one or less! I guess second hand is an option but I am always wary of that because hundreds of pounds can be spent on a camera that does not last long or has a problem the only comes to light a after it is too late to get a refund.

Yes. Way over hyped. Fun camera but demanding twice MSRP years after release for so so fixed lens with so so limited sensor camera. It’s fun but come on — it’s all about following the cool kid hype.

A film simulation is a preset.

Bought it... much expensiver than when it came out but what to do.. I want to try it and see how it will feel for me aswell! :D

Hey. Thanks for the review. Can you share your settings? I have a X100T, and while I like it, I've always found I have a (far) worse ratio for getting great photos than I do from my Nikon D300.

How long does this last? Plenty of complaints about the screen or other things after one year.

Major overhyped by social media, for the same price you could get an X Pro 3 and a really nice lens or a couple decently used ones

My #1 complaint with Fuji now is they don't have HDR10 support, Canon is the ONLY company besides Apple that can take 10bit images that will be displayed in full dynamic range on an HDR display.
Once Fuji gets that sorted and starts making film simulations with the AVIF/HEIF image format then they'll have the perfect camera.

C-c-c-catch the hype. There is no image this camera produces that a modern day flagship phone camera can't. And in fact phone cameras are far superior in so many ways. Just some people want to experience the classic rangefinder form-factor and retro appeal of having tactile controls. I get that. But again, let's not fool ourselves. Fujifilm's film simulations are just software. Nowadays everything will be software. Big lenses needed for extreme bokeh? Pfft! Calling DxO and Topaz Labs. Need large sensors for low light, low noise? pfft! Digital upscaling. AI. Denoise. etc. All software. And with where things are going, pro photography will be all but dead, relagated to photo journalism and news, and niche applications. Headshots now can be done with AI. AI is producing photos indistinguishable from real photos, only you can get it to produce better results every time, without any work. Anyway I digress. Bottom line, yes it is hype.. Camera folks poopoo smartphones, don't take them seriously, but the time is near when smartphones will permanently supplant MILCs permanently. The only way the camera companies will survive is if they partner mobile phone companies to at least save their brand, because that's all that is left when AI takes over. Sorry if I sound like a negative nancy, I'm just talkin' :)

I recently bought a 20K Sony camera setup, but I do want one of these small film-like cameras with buttons.

I wouldn't call it a point and shoot.

For those of you who want to get premium compact - you have sony rx100 series, fuji x-e series, olympus om10 series. And most importantly Ricoh GR III.
