What a compelling deep dive. I have the attention span of a Magikarp but I watched this from beginning to end without my eyes roaming elsewhere. I also haven’t played the games since gen 3 was originally released (except for Pokémon Go), but your presentation left me wanting to learn everything. Very well done.

as I've heard Porygon was recently made in Red
and if you check its Pokemon Sun Pokedex entry it says it was created 20 years ago (side note: Trainer Red is like 30 when you meet hi in SM)

The part that lost me is the Pearl/Diamond protagonist both going to Kanto and being the one sent back for Legends (though this at least sort of makes sense.)

This is a little wrong. The timeline doesn't split in sun & moon / ultra. It establishes that the different versions of the same stories are different dimensions. So Ruby/Saphhire and Omega/Alpha are both canon but they are separate dimensions. One with mega evolution and one without as team Rainbow Rocket is established in the timeline without mega evolution as you face the Ruby/Saphire versions of team aqua/magma. Kalos seems to be a region which is canon in both timelines with mega evolution being present but only in one of the timelines does mega evolution reach Hoenn in time for the Hoenn protagonist' stories. This dimensional split is seen again the SunMoon / Ultra. Both are canon, just happening in different universes/timelines. The timelines as far as we know currently both follow the events of galar and Paldea as we know it currently. However, Paldea has two different versions as well. One in which pokemon from the distant past are present, and another where pokemon of the distant future are present. This could be attributed to the two different timelines/dimensions of the pokemon games. Finally, its important to talk about Hoopa's involvement in the multi-dimensions of pokemon as he opens up portals to different universes in Mega-evolution Hoenn, as well as talk about Nebby pulling the protagonist to a PLETHORA of different universes in the ultra timeline. Some of which include destroyed cities of Alola.

One thing that is of note is that BDSP and Diamond/Pearl don't seem to be different dimensions of timelines like the other same-version games. The only stark difference being a complete lack of the distortion world story line. Perhaps that is enough to be two different timelines but its difficult to say as the story line was also missing from Diamond/Pearl and only expanded on later in Platinum.

Did I play a different set of games?

This is a well constructed and well narrated video, but my gripe with it is that original games and their remake counterparts actually exist on alternate timelines from each other. Ex: In one timeline, FRLG and RSE happen simultaneously but there’s no timeline where FRLG is happening alongside ORAS’s story. Gen 3-5 seemingly take place in the alternate reality mentioned in ORAS’s Delta Episode where Mega Evolution doesn’t exist. To my understanding, we’ve been on the same timeline since X and Y. But even that gets confusing because Gen 7 has two different versions of Red and Blue, one iteration who are young teens traveling Kanto in LGPE and one iteration who are clearly adult men competing in the Battle Tree in Alola, with both existing at once.

Pretty good summary. I'm curious why you mixed in non-mega timeline stuff with mega timeline? A lot of this cross narrative isn't actually how the story plays out and is a bit misleading to the newcomers who may pick up a game that contradicts with what you lay out here (like let's go).
