I just got me one betta fish.. how big does it get ? And how to know if it has reached its optimum size? And how often do i need to feed it ? And only protein diet is good for him or do i have to mix like we do it to goldfish?

I live in a tropical country, 99.9% of the time its warm in here (to put it lightly). Do I need to get a heater? Sometimes we do get rainy weather but nothing colder than an AC

I would bet that in reality almost no betta fish for sale at stores have their water changed even once a day let alone several times a day. And in fact it might be many days before they have a water change. We all know how short-staffed every single business is nowadays. And so these fish suffer even more.

I just got a betta fish how much pebbles should I give it? I do like 4 to 5 pe bles but it feels like not enough and I give twice a day. The pebbles are so tiny lol. They are red a d green. How many do you suggest I give it? I got from a 99 cents store.

OK, this seems like a small thing but I want to thank you for saying "congratulations" if your betta reaches even 2 years old. We've had my 9 year old's betta for over 2 years now and he was likely nearly 1 when we got him, making him nearly 3 and it's very clear he hasn't much time left. We were 'newbies' when we got him so we made lots of mistakes at first -- he was in a betta bowl the first month we had him-- and my daughter knows she wasn't perfect at everything so she is feeling really rough about it. When you said 'congratulations' and that two IS an old age for a betta I saw the look of relief on her face. It means a lot.

We got our first betta yesterday. He seems very inactive… In the starter bowl, he swam around and explored the small plant that we added. By this morning, he was basically vegetative. 😂 We got worried about him (water too cold?) so we moved him into a small aquarium with a heater - about three times the size of the large fishbowl he was occupying - and he’s still been doing nothing. Any other tips?

What about a planted 20 gallon long with a overflow filter? How often would I have to clean that and can my betta have any tankmates? (I currently have him in a 5-gallon but I'm planning on upgrading)

Sponge filter are the best for Betta!

I use silicon air tubing (the narrow ones) to clean up the gravel, I find it better because it syphons slowly, n I get more poop out than water, after that I water change! I attached a hard plastic rod to the end of the tubing for better grip!

When you first got your betta or when you changed the water, what did you do? Did you have to preset conditioner water or did you just fill up the tank with regular tap water?

As a young kid who is into fish I can tell you that bettas are not what you think when I first wanted one I was going to get a fish bowl or tiny tank but my dad said do research, so I did and I found out it need much more then a fish bowl and food, is need 5 gallons or more and filters and stuff

I have a question - Can dwarf gourami and bettas go together? I have a beautiful female gourami and I do not want to risk the types of fish going into the same tank without some info. P.S - in the future I am considering male gourami too so will this go well? and another side note I can not stop staring at my fish! they are just so unique!

Honestly you're right, short finned bettas are better. Also short finned bettas don't really get thrown around the tank because their fins are shorter, so don't really have to worry about the filter.

Even a fish can be work to keep it healthy and looking beautiful.
