I think in hindsight, the reluctance to release the source code, has something to do with the Unreal Dev Kit. I noticed with how silly Unity is getting that everyone is switching to Unreal. They prolly don't wanna run the risk of anyone reverse engineering any of it, OR, its some licensing thing.

This Unreal rant aged like a fine wine after the whole 'we wish to make you pay per install' situation.

It always struk me as interesting that the Nali, a peaceful race of four armed monk-people, would depict a goddess in one of their temples as a rather hot, but also kinda angry looking blue lady.

i didnt like this original unreal. changing look delays the screen by 0.1 seconds on purpose by the maker, whcih gives me eye contraint and brain damage. there are NO hotkey remappings for weapons in this game. too many puzzles everywhere, too complicated, it makes me go around in circle, retracing makes me bored. and has no story

Aww. I enjoyed Unreal II. But Unreal clued me onto MOD music. I converted the soundtrack into an audio CD. I love the soundtrack.

Modern day Epic and modern day Blizzard are jealous treasure dragons, which are on a never ending quest to pander the youth with shiny Service Game bullshit, while us old school gamers are a mere annoyance to them now.

For young people picking up older games now and boom shoots - Look into comparisons of old games on modern hardware and old games using a CRT and you will see why we think these games looked better back then. You can even turn on scan lines and CRT emulation in a lot of games and it's really good, not quite there yet but still good. Games like Final Fantasy 10 look rough now but when you see pictures of it on a CRT you can see how the lines and artifacts actually cause the models and textures to look more defined and higer quality and that's because they were literally designed with those lines in mind. I don't use CRT emulation in most games but there are a hanful that just look really really bad on a modern panel.

That kinda sucks anything unreal is gone. Epic really went as far as to shit can unreal tournament 2015. They sold off gears, bulletstorm is in gearbox's hands, and now all they got is fortnite.

Goddamn this brings me back. That moment when you stepped out of the prison ship and into the larger world really was something special. Music, ambiance, for the time incredible graphics. I remember just wandering around looking at stuff.

Civvie's experience with Unreal was my experience with Halo. Stepping onto the ringworld after a level of gray hallways. Assault On The Control Room being a vast and expansive level with lore and everything good about the game.

I know he doesn't like Halo but man, took me back.

I was 3 when this came out so never got to enjoy the late 90s Unreal games when they released, but you can definitely see just how innovative this game is. Graphics yes, but having roaming livestock, art direction and atmosphere. I need to pick this up somewhere and play it

I just don't know why for the sequel they quite try to copy HL and Star Trek elite force but somewhat suck at it.
I mean I don't think U2 is bad, but really it's not as interesting as the first game, also I believe legend entertainment because they didn't understand what Unreal was about, they made some mistakes on the mission pack, and also made the player utter slow in Unreal 2...
I wish Epic did what is made in some old FPS, I mean make an expansion, put new levels and new toys and that can do it.
I mean many mods does this for Unreal Tournament, and they quite expand on Unreal's gameplay.

Still the best game I've ever played, in terms of what it was / when it was / how it played in single and multi player. Level 2, stepping out of the Vortex Rikers into an actual outside level with that music.......unforgettable.
