Are the work hours still that bad when you are in IUOE ? Because people I've talked to on the internet says they work 10 hours mostly. For me 12-16 hour is just nuts.

Just wanted to say awesome video I’m an older guy 49 I’ve been working on automotive all the way to heavy equipment for caterpillar and John Deere ag equipment and earthmoving ran my own construction business for many years family construction business served in the military in the Navy tried to go Seabees but evidently they didn’t have any room even though I was qualified for eight of the 9CB positions or rates But I was thinking about getting into the operators union and or this field and you are great at describing and expectations of this career field sounds a lot like the Navy head on a swivel Formans are usually pissed off at you gotta have tough skin the environment can be nice and I can really suck The hours suck definitely used to that on the flight deck 19 hours a day in the middle of the Persian Gulf but I don’t want to get discouraged I went from working on these things to wanting to operate them and I would hope that someone would comment back and give me a few pointers On how to do this what equipment to specialize in or if it’s all around you need to learn every single piece of equipment anyways God bless all of you you guys work your ass off I hope to someday to join you

I have changed careers a lot, but I also am a mover and I get bored easily when jobs are finished and there is no work to be done anymore. I also want to help move project deadlines up faster so the state and feds will pay us for our services. Taxpayer's pay a lot to keep this country operational. We can at least expect to see results. This is a beautiful country when we want it to be. Lot of patience, but also can not be slow or inexperienced either. Lot of up and downs. Lot of competition and a lot of split up contracts. Its all very odd to me, but as long as my checks clear on time every time IDC go get that paper guys and gals!!!!! Invest in yourself learn something new and try to benefit the state and community you live in at the very least.

ive been in the excavating business for thirty seven years and the thought that red bull and junk food iz the mainstay on the job is in reality vodka and cocaine , i tried to catch an operator drinking back in 1978 and never could ,so one day i realized he had a grapefruit for lunch EVERY DAY , and it hit me so i pulled up to his cat 245 excavator and asked him to toss me his piece of fruit that waz loaded and he hung his head and apologized to admit he was an alcoholic and thanked me for the time he waz employed , so ....i could go on forever so, from laredo , texas , home of the 115°day . but lets save the vodka and booger sugar till after werk , peace , t.d.

I apologize if you've answered this before but what are your thoughts/experiences with women working as HEO or construction in general?? I am in Alberta Canada and we have a program that trains women to get into male dominated industries and I have applied to the HEO course. I am leaving nursing for this. As an emerg nurse I can hold my own, I've been spoken to worse by patients than any man on a site could ever speak to me and believe me I do not care about disgusting washroom situations I can promise you I've seen much worse lol. & I already work 5-6 days a week 12hrs minimum per day so that isn't an issue. Thank you!!!

You need to sit in the port o pot and shit on. 25° day with a 35mph cross wind. "The wind down the stack will tickle your sack! But take a stick in with you to knock the pile down so you can sit !! Welcome to the operators shit for brains!!
PS ....if you have kids tell them goodbye until frost sets in.....and if your married divorce her now or she'll take that mediocre pay that youre getting for being uneducated and a glutten for punishment. And lastly and seriously ......watch and learn....best advice I can give after 30 + years of being an idiot
Now .....if your still standing here wanting to be an operator, gimme your" dip" can ( loads rest of can in lip) and let's go show ya how to run that vibratory no cab roller!!! Yeah!!!

I just wanted to say thank you so much for making these videos because as a 14 yr old that has always loved heavy equipment and had the talks with my dad who used to operate a 980c about the job all the time and he has said alot of the same stuff you have with the job but its really cool to hear it from another person and what your saying is really helpful for me making the call to go into the carer so thank you for moving me more in the heavy equipment carer path. also is there any advice you have on getting like a summer job or something just to get a taste of the industry?

Pro tip: Shit in the morning and/or evening at home. Never ever take a shit in a porta-potty!! Especially in 90+ degree weather, or right after they cleaned it, or.... anytime really! If you drop a log right after they've cleaned it, you can expect a blue and juicy butthole. As for pissing, just do it between the excavator tracks or behind a tire on your machine, or in the ditch. 😂🤣😂

Being a heavy equipment operator make me afraid and very excited at the same time. When 99% of people on here say they get chewed up by there foreman while other days the same foreman calls them into work to do something. There isnt no love hate relationship in here. I'm thinkin that it's just business

That respect part is so true. The first company I worked for, all the guys tried to be shitty to me and get me to quit, they actually had bets on how long I’d last (I’ve been told that by several of them in the years since). Spoiler i outlasted all of them including my foreman, and realize I loved every minute of the work at the company, and can say it was truly life changing and one of the best places I’ve ever worked. It’s true the dirt really does get into your blood. And you do and can really make lifelong friends in the industry.

I would also like to add Excavation can be very Very much like sculpturing. Especially if you are doing final grade And landscape. You may be making mounds with your worst dirt and then covering With different materials around the job site. That's requires A vision when you 1st walk up. to figure out how you're gonna move a 100 or 200 t and make it look like a Planned landscape. The best reward you'll get is when an owner or a builder Smiles. And throws money at you.

My problem is finding a good company. I’ve found myself being stuck at bad companies that don’t care about anything but money in their pocket.
