Has there ever been a peaceful unification of long separate countries in any part of human history anywhere? Certainly, this would be a first
ОтветитьIf this ever happened, native born Canadians would essentially have to be granted retroactive citizenship, back to birth, allowing them to run for President of the new United States. The current Canadian Prime Minister might have a future as a running mate with California Governor Gavin Newsom. Every member of the Canadian Armed Forces would have to be accessioned into the new American Department of Defense at their current ranks, paygrades, or retired paygrades. Retired Canadian military personnel would probably make off pretty good in this deal, since our military retirement system is probably better. Canadian military units would remain intact but absorbed into standing American divisions, fleets and air wings. Some might be inactivated or realigned. Again, this would be the easy stuff. As for social security, Canadians will have to suck it up and get the American one. I hope ours is better but cannot promise it is. This is just a matter of revenue transfer.
ОтветитьPersonally I would like to have the American constitution. Our government has been attacking free speech and it needs to stop
Ответитьwhy would they do that
ОтветитьThis is incredibly naive. NAFTA wasn't caused by some kind of populist optimism. It was caused by wealthy oligarchs who could make massive amounts of money on the back of cheap labour.
The problem with focusing on culture, it seems, is that you mistake cultural propaganda for political and economic causes.
You are a traitor with a large audience. Not a good combination
ОтветитьYou always have new hair
ОтветитьIt is a travesty that we do not already have a BLT between the U.S. and Canada.
ОтветитьHey, Canada has a land border with Denmark or whatever. We better button that down! 😆
ОтветитьAll I’ve heard is FUCK NO! 😂 doesn’t matter what side you’re on. Personally I see aggressive trade wars as just harming US and Canadian economies. Hoping for a crash I guess.
ОтветитьWe don't want all of Canada to join us. But we'd welcome Alberta and Nova Scotia any day!
ОтветитьHrm, interesting. Thanks for the perspective.
ОтветитьAs an American, I don't want Canada. You guys are too angry. The only stereotypically nice Canuck left is Ryan Reynolds.
ОтветитьNo gonna lie getting in to Canada sucks it took an hour in North Dakota and getting a gun permits was like you were doing something wrong even though it say you can in there laws but they interrogate you for half an hour about it
ОтветитьI never did it but I hear at one point you could just go right up to the US Canadian border and show them your driver's license and be like. I just want to come and hang out for a few days. Try your varied cream sodas and then head back and they be like okay. You have a good day now. I've also heard you can do the same thing at the southern border they be like. What are you here for and you be like tacos and a donkey show and they be like okay? Have fun!😂
ОтветитьInvading Canada would be a bad idea. They are our friends and we should keep it that way. If we have to add to the Geneva suggestions then we should do it as a team and invite Poland

ОтветитьRemember Trump thinks a trade difference is money paid to another country's. So if Canada only buys 450B from us and we buy 550B from Canada trip thinks we're being charged that 100B and by adding a tariff that's going to cause Canada to pay that extra 100 billion
ОтветитьLol, we are one step closer to Fallout timeline, aren't we.
ОтветитьWhat about gun control and free health care? I think those alone are causes for border enforcement and control of people? If you can just flash a card and hop through the border wouldn't a lot of uninsured Americans just look for treatment in Canada? Unfamiliar with the current setup to be honest, but those two seem like fundemental differences between the two countries.
ОтветитьBottom line America has a trade surplus with Canada because America exports manufacturer Goods which could be made in Canada because it's cheaper for Canadians to buy American stuff. Canada exports natural resources oil, gas, and minerals, which you need. Otherwise, your economy would be crippled. Our government should stop playing games and sell it to Europe. American needs canada more than Canada needs America .Besides for protection, obviously. The only reason the government of Canada says it would hurt the economy is cuz we sell all our resources that we developed to America for a discount ,if we sold it to other countries around the world it would not hurt our economy. And Europe certainly can use them resources ,we've had what 14 years since Russia has been aggressive against Europe. Develop them and sell them the resources which we should ,.Americans would be crying Trump would be the biggest crybaby he lies so bad tells half truths and the average American doesn't look at the facts .I hope we stopped trade it's just playing games back and forth sell to Europe.
Ответитьi'd rather die then be american
ОтветитьAs a Canadian, I finally heard someone say about instead of about!
ОтветитьIn the US, it does seem like US expansion (via manifest destiny) is shaping up to be serious policy of the Trump administration…even if it all started as a news conference jest. Honestly, it just makes me think that we’re all headed into WW3 in the 2030s.
ОтветитьHell no!!! Canada is too liberal with their borders..
ОтветитьHopefully Trudeau takes advantage of the ample opportunities for yoga instructors around the Havana area.
ОтветитьCanada would need to adopt the US Bill of Rights.
ОтветитьI once read an interesting piece which claimed that in the early 80s some businessmen told Reagan that the only way to keep the US fiscally healthy and balance its budget was to merge with Canada.
The piece claimed that Quebec independence would open the door to such a plan and that the failure of the independence referendum killed the plan
As an American, I would love to see an EU-style common market and free movement agreement with Canada. Any American or Canadian should be able to live, work, and trade on either side of the border imo.
ОтветитьYes!! No more borderline
ОтветитьI'm commenting before I watched the whole video because I don't know if you're going to bring this up but in case you don't
Trump so stupid he didn't even realize that in trying to insult the Canadian prime Minister
He basically suggesting creating a state with like 200 electoral votes
Or something like that
If I remember correctly electoral votes and seats in the House of Representatives are based on population
What a dumbass
He's so stupid that it would never occur to him he just suggested creating a state that would basically control 40% of the electoral college
Maybe not quite 40% because I'm not sure what the population is in Canada but still it's up there
Not to mention their caucus in the House of Representatives would end up consisting of a good chunk of the house as well
Trump sitting here giggling to himself he has no idea what he was actually proposing
Is Canada was a state it would basically dominate the representative government in everything but the Senate
Even if somebody sat down and explained it to him I don't think he'd get it
What a dumbass
It would be a good idea to become 51st State.
ОтветитьTrump need a puppet like Trudeau
ОтветитьWhaaat? You're a Poillievre support a.k.a 'Canada's next Prime Minister'. Interesting. I'll keep it in mind for further 'casts from you.
ОтветитьCanadians don't get outraged too much. As Americans doing business in Canada a couple decades ago, we watched the USA / Canadian All Stars hockey game in a roughneck pub in North Bay. The American team cleaned their clocks, and the Canadians were moaning and groaning about how bad their team was. My wife involuntarily laughed, then looked sheepish as she thought they were going to beat us up, as she'd been rooting for the Americans to win. A Canadian said, "That's OK, Ma'am. Our team stinks. Anyway, the Americans are winning because they're all Canadians," which may even have been true, as lots of hockey players moved south during those years as American hockey teams expanded. I've seen American hockey fans (Chicago vs. St. Louis) fight in the U.S., so I know the game can be passionate even hear.
ОтветитьWe have several problems up here: separatism, an ineffective government, a lack of capital for major projects like the Northern Passage, development of northern cities, pipeline development, and rising social costs. The US and Canada could address these issues together.
Meanwhile, the US is facing its own challenges: water scarcity, growing debt, the extraction of rare earth elements and potash, developments in AI (which we pioneered), porous borders, a divided society, and insufficient medical and dental plans. We can also tackle these issues collaboratively.
Bilateralism has not produced the desired results; however, integrating Canada more closely with the US may provide a solution. With the influence of figures like Bernie Sanders and the Poliveirre Conservatives, it's time to consider this option seriously. Together, we can make things better.
Additionally, Canada might play a role in calming the US military mindset and addressing the ongoing war mentality.
Xmas 2024
btw. The Jay Treaty of 1795 made Canada's First Nations people defacto American citizens who can come to live and work in the USA any time they want, and come and go between the two countries as they please. The treaty remains in force for Canadians with 50% or more First Nations ancestry. It could be extended to all citizens of both countries, and the border wouldn't matter.
ОтветитьOnly Alberta & Saskatchewan the rest can take their time decide on losing their artic oil reserves to Russia or joining the union and together becoming an unrivaled super State
ОтветитьI'd love it if Canada was just absorbed by the US, at least I wouldn't have to go through the immigration ringer 😂
ОтветитьIf you are a Canadian and you support Canada joining and / or being annexed into the United States, you are a traitor. Clean cut as that.
ОтветитьYes, a mutually beneficial agreement sounds good between the US and Canada, Mexico even though there's good people there is becoming a bigger and bigger headache with cartel problems, and other issues. Nothing to do with legal immigration or legal workers, but millions of unknown people just walking in is uncomfortable. Maybe in the future some Canadian providences if they wish could apply to be US States, i'd be open to that.
ОтветитьImagine only one of the 51 states has universal healthcare….
ОтветитьLet's not. Seriously. This silly notion has been floated way too often. It's fraught with countless issues that wouldn't do for both countries and then there would be the world who might not be keen on it either. Canada would cease to exist folks. The Left and Right thing in both countries would remain a very unpleasant and more complex issue. Many Americans want nothing whatsoever to do with Trudeau and many Canadians would not want to live with Trump. We are quite different tribes despite superficial similarities. It's just unworkable without significant and highly undesirable compromises. Lastly, it would be just like moving in with a good friend and ultimately ruining the relationship. Just forget about it, please.
ОтветитьI don't think Canadians and Americans are as divided as much as our governments are. Canada's government is very top done and gives a lot of control, where if Canada joined as US states provinces would have more control. Most Canadians that are against it are boomers that have Stockholm syndrome with their government from decades of propaganda. Definitely would fix the problems with Alberta and Quebec. Canada is mostly Ontario taking advantage of every provinces economy.
ОтветитьHey Canada, can you please take Drake back?
ОтветитьThe US and Canada could establish a common labour market independently of the existence of the USMCA. It was never the case that NAFTA or the current USMCA were an impediment to the creation of a common labour market.
The discussion about points of entry and border enforcement is also not actually relevant. You can have a common labour market without having a common travel area. The Schengen common travel area in Europe is a good example. The UK prior to Brexit was part of the same common labour market but they were NOT part of the same common travel area. Finally, you also don’t need the US and Canada to be in a customs union in order to be part of the same common labour market. Norway as a member of the EEA shares a common labour market with all other EEA members which are mostly EU countries + a few others, however they are not part of the same customs union as the EU and thus they have their own trade policy and can sign free trade agreements that do not include the EU and the EU can similarly sign free trade agreements that do not include Norway.
I feel this video muddies the waters by conflating many different ideas such as free trade, common labour market, common travel area and customs union which superficially sound like similar ideas but are actually each very different concepts.
It could only happen under a US government controlled by Democrats. Republicans would not accept half a dozen or so new blue states.
ОтветитьBilingual monarch does not work.
