Genuine question: Is it factual that a cavalry charge like this would work against a line of pikes? Horses are afraid of pikes by their nature aren't they?

The coolest part of this scene is the importance of Theodon riding out. The riders of Rohan probably thought the fortress had fallen and everyone was dead, that last burst of fight let them know there was something left to fight for.
