There was a book back in the 1970s, I don't recall the name of it
But it covers everything, even kinds of stoves, nicely illustrated, easy to use, I ddf love to find a copy of that book.
You can easily install your own wood stove and pipe safely. Just do your research. Saves ALOT of money
ОтветитьOn the farm we have a wood burning cooking stove, it was lit when my dad woke up at 5am, before he went to milk the cows, when he was finished he would come in to a cooked breakfast, mum used it to cook lunch and dinner that night so it kept the house warm all day, if I was to buy a wood burning heater again it has to be a double burning heater, Im happy to have my reverse cycle air conditioner.
ОтветитьI RUINED MY BROTHER'S ENTIRE WINTER LAST YEAR I THINK. I ASKED HIM IF MOST PEOPLE COULD HEAT WITH WOOD. HE SAID NO. HE STOPPED TALKING TO ME. WE HAVE NOT TALKED SINCE.
ОтветитьVery nicely done...
Ответить67 degrees is pretty comfortable
ОтветитьWe have a woodstock soapstone. Been using it for 10 years, it makes winter bearable. Wouldn’t be without one. Highly recommend! Woodstock Soapstone Co.
ОтветитьThat’s a piece of shit wood stove you have
ОтветитьThank you, just starting out and found some good right to the point info
ОтветитьSave your money and buy a good one like Blaze King you will not be sorry 🙂
ОтветитьIf you are buying a used stove be careful of getting all cast iron particularly if Chinese. I refurbish stoves and wouldn’t touch them because they can easily crack sometimes impossible to see a hairline crack until firing up and then damage visible and too late you really repair them. So all steel body and cast iron doors are good because little internal stresses acting unlike the main body. Running stoves on the correct wood is the most important part of running wood stoves.
ОтветитьI raised my family, wife and three kids. Ranch style home, on a wood burning stove. Plenty of wood available. We all stayed warm. Side loader made in Austria , four bedrooms home. Wish I had that stove now, kids grew up moved away, divorced and let the stove go with the home.
ОтветитьRumford Fireplaces are very efficient. But not all old fireplaces are Rumford Fireplaces, unfortunately...
ОтветитьThanks for your video it's very informative. I have a question, hopefully you can help me with. I just bought a house that will need remodeling, the gas furnace for the house will be placed in a different location, so my question is can I use the same chimney to vent a wood burning fireplace? if so, will I need to change the insert to double wall pipe correct? The chimney is in the center of the house.
ОтветитьI hope somebody sees this but we had an ice storm I'm in an emergency. So please someone respond I need knowledge. I have a traditional fireplace I've been eating my home this is the third day with only the fireplace and I've been burning everything I can find the neighbors gave me some wood which was seasoned dry and read it burnt hot and warm but also very fast. I'm going to combine that with a bunch of the wood that was not down in the ice storm that I'm going to go out and cut today. I need something that will burn a little slower but still generate a good amount of heat that I can mix with my remaining seasoned cherry wood to help it burn. What kind of wood should I be looking for what types of trees. The wood that I have will burn up in about 20 for a quarter log and I've burned through two wheelbarrows full last night. I would like to have something that's going to at least let me sleep for 2 hours between having to feed the fireplace. Please help I will watch for responses I'm going out in 20 minutes
ОтветитьI bought my stove to fit the fireplace, wow its hot, 10k
ОтветитьWhere is the flue dampener on that wood stove? If you do not have a butterfly valve in that stove pipe, it is not complete, it will be sucking like a vacuum cleaner and will never burn efficiently, it will require three times as much wood without that device. Your stove appears to be set up wrong. I wish you had showed more detail. Also, I'm sure your wrong about a shorter stove pipe, it is the stove pipe that provides most of the heat, I've seen them set up where they go around the entire room for maximum efficiency. I've never had to clean mine, even after a decade of use.
ОтветитьIf my insurance allows for a wood burning stove will my insurance rate go up?
ОтветитьIn Ireland we call it a range. Used for Donkeys years. Cook food, heat home, heat water all at once
ОтветитьWhat book are you reading at the beginning?
ОтветитьWe bought an old farmhouse this year that used to have 3 pot-belly stoves for heat. They had been taken out and a fuel-oil furnace was installed in the 80’s. We figured the cost with prices so high this year that we would be spending $800-$1200 per month to heat out home. That’s just way too much. Bought a wood burning stove and put double-walled pipe up the old chimney. We have 5 acres with plenty of free firewood. Thank God took care of that problem.
ОтветитьCould you share what insurance company you use?
ОтветитьGreat Vid. I'm thinking about a wood burner for a canvas tent. I have seen a few models but apart from making sure that the vent fits the vent outlet in the tent, I'm not sure what else to look out for. Any suggestions?
ОтветитьBro that’s not cold I sleep at 60 but I prefer 56 lol
Ответить"Lopi Endeavor" I was going to do what you did, go to Home Depot/Lowe's buy one of those big box store wood stoves. Then old school Craigslist came to mind. I ended up purchasing a very well maintained Lopi Endeavor wood stove for $600. That stove brand new costs around $3,000. I was fortunate to purchase a pristine high-end wood stove at a fraction of the cost, this Lopi will outlive me= I will be able to pass it on to the next generation.
Ответить🤠
ОтветитьI have fond memories of curling up by the wood stove in the early mornings as a kid. Looking to replace my propane fireplace with a wood stove. Propane isn't cheap anymore!
ОтветитьLook into Heco wood cookstove
ОтветитьThis is the beast show good nolege thanks
ОтветитьGreat video! My husband and I are looking to get a good wood burning stove such as this. ❤
ОтветитьGreat Book. Great video.
ОтветитьGreat video very informative
ОтветитьMan you really cover a lot of bases. Great video, thanks
ОтветитьMay God Bless you and your family for this information!
ОтветитьVery informative, thank you.
ОтветитьBeen running a wood stove for 20 years as my sole source of heat. We're on 34 forested acres now so no lack of fuel. I've been spacing the trees and burning up tge unwanted trees for my firewood source. It's a win win!
ОтветитьI have a fireplace. I have always come across articles explaining that woodstoves make people sick. I want to fix my fireplace (insert) so I have zero emissions. No residual gas or compounds that will damage my body or get absorbed into my home. How might I solve this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. I LOVE WOOD FIRE. Don't love carbon monoxide...
ОтветитьBeautiful and fantastic video ◕‿↼ I love it!!! ❤️
That will help a lot for are future investment.
Thank you so much ❤️˘◡˘❤️
I had a person stop by about 2 years ago claiming that I was breaking the law and not supporting the oil and gas utilities because I “heated for free”! Well that not only ticked me off, but got me thinking, I had to buy a splitter, a few axes, a few chainsaws, the stoves(2) and fuel for most of the equipment! Later that day she came back with her husband and a truck and a supposed court liaison, stating how I was in violation, and how “they were going to help me out”. Well my neighbor a retired detective noticed a little commotion over my wood pile and how they were telling me that all my equipment was going to be impounded along with my firewood stash! And that is when I laid it out! 2 stoves $1500. , chainsaws $1000., splitter $2000., and so on, by the time I got to the value of my time, the police department, and my local JAG officer ( military lawyer) both arrived and were laughing just as hard as i was! These people were a bunch of scammers and looking for ignorant people to take advantage of , this I’m not!
The initial person worked for the county human services, and her husband for the “DOT” the third person was a relative who needed wood for heat and equipment to process it! I smelled a skunk, when they returned without the sheriff department and a warrant to collect all my stuff, they left that day, in handcuffs, their cars and truck were impounded and all had lost employment! Go figure! Heating with wood is not free heat! Never has been and never will be! It costs you more up front, and then helps save money as you provide for yourself, but as a wise contractor once said… time is money, and I spent plenty of hours harvesting, bucking, splitting, and stacking firewood for my home to know what my time is worth,, and lets not forget about maintaining all the additional equipment to process the wood, that costs too!
I added extra length to the pipe outside back in april, because I wasn't getting a good enough draft, so now its above the roof line
ОтветитьThe pipe actually cost more than my stove. I got a cast iron US stove, I wish I would have got a steel stove. I got new homeowners ins this year and thank goodness the stove was already installed then.
ОтветитьI have a wood stove and I cook on it all the time. It makes a great slow cooker, just put whatever on top in a pot and cover. Without my wood stove in the winter my family and I would die. Gas or oil furnaces are not an option where I am. It's -45c in the winter. Wood stoves are as safe as anything. There are probably 50 other ways u can burn your house down. You just scared a whole bunch of people in to not getting a wood stove. Another bonus for a wood stove is that u do not have to rely on your country to have fossil fuel. Look at Europe right now.
ОтветитьMom and dad as well as family have had wood stoves and wood fireplaces all through me growing up. That giant stone fireplace you mentioned is my favorite part of the family cabin. I’m buying my first home (rented it for years) and that’s one of the first things I intend to do is install a wood stove to help with heat costs. With gas prices as they are, I could pay off the incurred costs within 3 years and then have nearly free heat (I love wood cutting so it’s not even a chore for me). Like the video, nice job
Ответитьdo you pack your stove with dry logs'
]
Whew getting ready to purchase wood burner freestanding and there you were! Thanks so much for your wisdom and information Bless you!
ОтветитьThank you so much for your advice. I'm just starting out hoping to have wood heat for emergencies and secondary source to augment our natural gas furnace. I was quoted $8000 for hybrid insert installed - way over budget for us! It seems that stoves and inserts have gone way up in price. Is there any brand of insert you recommend that is reasonably priced?
ОтветитьGreat video and information! We have heated our home (exclusively) in northern Utah with a Blaze King woodstove for the last 18 years. We have a furnace but haven't used it in all that time and we currently use a Blaze King, King 40 woodstove. Our home is 2 story at 2200 square feet. We cut our on firewood from public land, burn apprx 6.5 cords from mid Oct thru mid May and our costs for heating our home annually is around $300. During waking hours the house temps are 72 to 77 degrees downstairs (hotter upstairs) and when we wake in the morning the temp is usually no less than 67 degrees in January. We load our stove full of wood around 9 pm and get 12 to 16 hrs of burn time depending on time of year. So we only have to load our woodstove twice a day. The main negatives are: more dust in house from burning and our house gets a little messy from bringing in firewood which is stored outside.
ОтветитьAnother question we have about wood stoves in the venting is how high up does the vent need to go above your roof
Ответить
