The interior rattles, quality issues, electronics and sensor errors seem to be related to local markets like AU/US. I have owned an E92, F10, F48, so a wide range of models and generations, never had a single rattle in any of them. I have also a lot of acquaintances with BMWs in Europe, and I haven't heard one complaint. What can I say, make sure your BMW is actually built in Germany 😁

I have a neighbor who has a 535D, he seems to drive his car a lot. It is, however, the Touring version M sport

Did you drive with real diesel fuel or diesel mixed with biodiesel and cetane value Maybe that can also affect consumption ?

Remember a diesel Consumes less fuel per mile. The exception is if you have a hybrid BMW. And don't drive many long distances

I'm currently in a 530D ex-cop car the same as this video but in black.

You're completely correct about people behaving when they see you, especially if I'm wearing a high-vis shirt.

It's been in my ownership for nearly 3 months now and have done over 5,000km's and most have been faultless. The only thing that has gone wrong is the infotainment screen freezing, it will still play music but you can't skip or pause when it does this.
The only other thing that bothers me is the stop/start function. I understand it's to save fuel but when you're in stop and start rush hour it will turn off when you're creeping forward through slow traffic. If it could just make up it's mind about what kind of traffic I'm driving in it wouldn't be so annoying.

It was serviced by a BMW technician a couple of weeks after purchase and they noted that it has had a very good life and nothing was needed. All up the general service which included oil and filter change and other fluids including labor cost under $400 which is the cheapest service I've ever had for a car. (Previous car was a SV6 Series 2 which would was a money pit)

These ex-cop BMW's are an absolute steal for what they are, I'm still finding more tech every day such as the pedestrian illumination at night and the kick-under-the-bumper boot opener.

For the same price as a brand new base model Corolla, they're an absolute win.

I ended up buying an F10 5 series and it has been an epic adventure!!!! It's more reliable than most say (had way more problems with my Nissan before this). Also, it's very planted on the road at speed while still being comfortable

Bought an ex police e60 2 years back..... oh lawd, it wasn't looked after while they shoved it in storage for a few years. Literally forgotten in a unit for years.
But i love it so much, needs a fair bit of TLC, came with nothing apart from a fancy police nav system, and thats it for extras, not even speakers or working audio system. Never left me stranded, but it isn't healthy as it should be. Saving for a 530e or 545e, down the line.

Great car but the cooling system in these cars is made of melting plastic😂 And the engine mounts have equally bad/brittle rubber.

Was pleasantly surprised to see Jim in this video as he’s my mechanic. Just spoke to him today about various unreliable cars I’m considering buying (a W210 e55 or Porsche Cayenne Turbo and now potentially one of these). That 5 series Touring in the background was mine at the time.

I’d pass on an ex pol car. BMW maintenance is expensive already you don’t need a car that’s been driven to death. The 3 BMW’s I have had were fully maintained company vehicles. I would not own one myself. They are a huge cash drainer.

The Aussie & UK & Irish vehicles are the closest spec wise. Other countries don't necessarily tend to get the same amount of gear that we do or the equipment is extra cost in other markets. We get some of the highest specced vehicles in the world .

Nice review. Mines done 52k and no issues as yet- I do service it every 7-10k though. A lot of the features mentioned as options or as coming on the lci model were actually standard on the initial release. The police packs are very stripped out though- sound system is particularly lame. The civilian spec at least got the 16 speaker Harmon kardon sound which is good. Find one with bowers and Wilkins diamond surround option and it’ll make your ears bleed. I’ve had three bmws with 6cyl diesels and haven’t had (or heard of) dpf issues. Egr cooler issues are rife though and bmw have actively recalled in other countries- the coolers leak and the intake soot mixes with coolant and ends up melting the intake manifold- who knew this mix is combustible. In Australia they did “technical recalls” which was a “we don’t want it known publicly but will replace it for you anyway” and mine recently got called in for a software update which was somehow related to this too. Haven’t suffered actual Egr issues myself. Only niggles I’ve had is the dash ambient light strip has lost brightness, exhaust flap rattle and on super hot summer days it’ll throw up front camera fault warning until the aircon cools it down. Speaking of which- the aircon is fine cooling wise but as per the review, fan speed on auto is stupid and will often decide to go to a whisper when you want a breeze. Manual control sorts it but it’s annoying.
Otherwise I’ve been wrapt with mine. Averaging 7.2l/100 around town all while having similar performance (which I’ll admit I use) to Aussie v8’s is nice.

Made me laugh about driving one and people around you being cautious..

I had a VZ that was an Ex-Cop Chaser and it got to about 220k and crapped out, auto-sparky said it was either the wiring or the chip (most likely the wiring, he said, because the people who put the equipment in and then take it out for sale, are 'cowboys') - in fact its still on the front lawn, can boot it up via the relay; does anyone need one? LOL

This channel will get more views if they incorporated numbers into their video titles, eg: 10 reasons to buy a used 5 series and 6 reasons not to. Videos just get more traction that way.

You can get a nice 530 in the 40s, and 540 in the 60s! 540 has the B58 in it, what’s becoming a legendary and very reliable engine. The diesel option? Don’t know what you’d bother.

Waste of taxpayers money. Can make do with cheaper cars.

Just bought a 520D SE Touring early 2018 model, have to say its one of the best cars ive ever owned and ive had alot of cars :)

I just did a 500 mile round trip in the 530d. Still 200 miles left in the tank. These things cruise at 75 in near silence and still do over 50mpg average.
