I have to disagree, I love the gameplay loop of the Og Jet set, learning optimal routes and how to actually control your character felt so rewarding because it was difficult

YES! I had an OG copy on Dreamcast and always referred to it as 'Jet Grind Radio' and was confused until some years later. 'Bomb rush cyberfunk' is so damn good and improves on every concept in the original game. What an amazing tribute. If you are reading this and have not played BRCF, do yourself a favor and go get it.

Holy shit man. This game was the most influential piece of media for me in my late teens. I preached the gospel of JSRF and funky beats. I also had a pair of TRS Downtowns that I took better care of than my car.
I had no Idea that the opening track used a quote from Stokely Carmichael denouncing Zionism. Absolutely legendary. The music is still woven into my DNA.

Love JSRF! Cyberfunk was good but felt it was missing a bit of the magic that Future had. Looking back, it's funny how the messaging of the game flew right over my head.

Side note: since it's pride month, you should check out the anime Banana Fish (2018) if you haven't seen it yet. I think it may be up your alley. Great story, characters, and more relevant to you, a powerful 80s New York fashion/aesthetic that is great inspiration.
