Editing makes a world of difference. I think anyone who ignores it is missing out.

ОтветитьYou cant just purchase your way of being a good photographer.
~Nick Page
My biggest advice to new photographers is don't fall into the trap of GAS (gear acquisition syndrome). Buy a camera and lens and really learn with that combo. This can be a beginner kit with a basic kit lens or it can be a high-end camera. Whatever you want, but don't fall into the trap of buying this or that because someone told you to. Also, realize that more gear or better/higher-end cameras don't make you a better photographer. What makes you a better photographer is YOU and practice, neither of which really cost money (other than your time and effort).
ОтветитьThank you, Nick! Hope you are improving with your bout of Covid! 💕
ОтветитьI'd Add to this: Take a drawing or painting course. Sure it may be annoying, but it will absolutely FORCE you to truly think about WHAT you do BEFORE you do it and WHY. Art Wolfe discusses this at length.
ОтветитьDroppin knowledge!
ОтветитьGreat video and how true your advice is Nick. Just changed camera system from Canon to Sony, so failed already with the spending advice lol. My passion is Astrophotography and I wish there was more videos I could find for the Sony A7iii... but first I need to get my head around the menu on it lol
ОтветитьThanks so much, that was spot on. Your the best.
ОтветитьGreat advice!!!
I just "discovered" your tutorials and you and really enjoy it. Your tutorial about layers and masks in PS is the best I came across. Thank you! I'm fairly comfortable in LR but PS is a different story. Who/where do you recommend to learn it?
You really know what us new photographers are doing lol. Luckily I'm doing well learning from free content but I've definitely over processed my photos. I have been using snapseed but I want to get lightroom and photoshop and learn through those now. Thank you for sharing these tips. Hopefully someday I will get good enough to meet you and go on a shoot.
ОтветитьGreat tips! I was a over-processor myself and it's so easy to see it now when I go back to older photos. Thanks, Nick.
ОтветитьIn my workflow I have the expression "Nick Page green", yet I cannot achieve this color!
Ответитьthomas heaton was not mentioned. cries in f4
ОтветитьThanks for begginer advice. I love the pyramid idea .so true
ОтветитьI think ime at the stage of toning down the processing from lightroom. I do need to obtain skills for Photoshop... Liked the idea you highlighted for blending shots to incorporate some of the mist in shots... So much to learn but enjoyable and self thought.... Keep up the good work buddy
ОтветитьGreat tips Nick.
About tip 4....
I always process my picture all the way through until I'm done. THEN I leave it for a few hours or even to the next day and then look at it again. (Learned that from you actually)
If it still looks great.. Ill leave it like that.. In the mean time I spend a some time looking at other professional photografphers pictures and see how they have prosessed their pictures. That wil also give me a sort of expectation of how my picture needs to be prosessed.
I often use you, Thomas and Adam Gibbs's pictures (sometimes someone else) to compair my shots to. Depends on what the composition is all about.
But again.. Great tips :)
(Sorry for my bad english writing here)
Great advice Nick. Thanks !
Ответить“Excellent recommendation and tips to becoming a better photographer, great words of advice Nick!”
ОтветитьNick I couldn't of said it better ,so so true..
ОтветитьThank you so much for those advices, it will help me a lot :-D
ОтветитьGreat suggestions!
ОтветитьGreat video Nick, love your channel.
Couldn't agree more about money, ive had my camera for 3 years now and I'm still using an entry level canon, I've invested in a couple of second hand lenses which has improved my photography but just getting out and using it is all I need to improve further. With the help of people like yourself, Adam Gibs, Thomas Heaton and others, oh and not forgetting the tresmendus spaz who put out excellent and informative content helping to inspire us to be creative with photography. Keep up the great work.
Thanks so much, Nick. I have actually held back from signing up for a workshop with you and your tribe due to fear of gear shaming. I am learning on a Sony a6000 (crop sensor as you know) and learning Affinity Photo. As an amateur I can’t justify more. Plus I wonder a bit about Gender disparity as it seems like photography draws a lot of guys. How comfortable are workshops for people with alternative gear and post processing software?
ОтветитьThanks mate!
ОтветитьAm from Karachi, Pakistan. Just saw this video, really impressed as there's no glitter but just facts. Congrats, you're gifted with an "eye" that See's beauty with perfect light and a "finger" that clicks at right time, God bless you.
ОтветитьExcellent tips.
ОтветитьYou made me laugh so much!!!! I've gone through hdr phase, crazy with the clarity , super sharp focus hahahahahahha Didn't we all??? Thanks again LOVELY lovely Vlog!
ОтветитьThankyou for all your amazing advice! Love your work , my tip for you is to stop listening to that little voice in your head!
ОтветитьOne thing I would suggest and something I wish I done was hire out gear you are thinking of buying and really use it how you would use it, and see if it works for you. I used to purchase gear without really knowing what it would do and then not happy with the results I got then sell it the following week for a loss.
Also stop comparing your work to others is a big one and its fine to pick apart there work and see how its done like Nick said but dismantle the photo and then work out how you would do it differently in your own style. Your style will change over time as well the more you learn and experience from creating.
Cool! Great tips!
ОтветитьI enjoyed the tips even though I am far from new. I shot film for 20 years in everything from 35mm to 4x5. In the last 10 years I have been a digital snap shooter. I just got a good enough digital camera to take my shots seriously. I got a shot last month that will be my first digital print to go on the wall. Thanks to you and Adam Gibbs and Thomas Heaton for making photography exciting for me again.
ОтветитьGreat video Nick!!
ОтветитьGreat tips, I’ve gone through, and still go though, many of these processes,
ОтветитьHi Nick, as per usual, great content and absolutely spot on advice. All the best from Ireland
ОтветитьGreat advice my man.
At first I thought here we go another photographer BSing us but I was wrong:)
L. C. S. Done 👍🏾:)
You are overprocessing? Simply stop watching the channel of Serge Ramelli :-)
ОтветитьHey Nick - thanks for mentioning me in the first section. It's very much appreciated ☺
ОтветитьI have learned so much from you already and just want to say thanks.
ОтветитьYou are so right Nick! Such wise words, and I know I needed to be reminded. There is so much to learn and learning the gear you already have is one of the lessons. I'm not saying new gear isn't totally awesome to get, but I know I still haven't mastered the basics well enough to buy any more gear.
ОтветитьA great man!
ОтветитьTremendous, thanks
ОтветитьLoL, Nick there was a time I was a clarity slider junkie... now, not so much :) Pet peeve, there are many people out there who need to step away from the saturation slider "nature did not create that!"
ОтветитьSo I started looking for photographers to look at anyone has suggestions for astrophotography, landscapes and weddings just give me the name of your favorite one I’ll check it out
