New M3 iMac vs iMac Pro - Should you just WAIT?!

Still using my 2012 27" IMac. I might need to go the mac mini + display route.....

I listened to you three years ago and still waiting

I buyed iMac 27” with 5500 8gb radeon and was to slow/old. More liked to use my MacBook Air m1 with 16gb/512gb connected to ultrawide 43” screen. Now I also have gaming itx 7800x3d/7800xt/32gb/4tb but really will be happy to sell all and move to new big iMac .. but for now I am thinking best option will be Mac Studio and ultrawide screen. It is sad .. Base Mac mini got a superb price but by a upgrading to 16gb/512gb the price is a joke

It should pack in a 27' 4k display at the very least. And prolly a 32' 5k display. And remove the 8/256gb configuration. Introduce the 16/1tb as the minimum.

I just don’t understand why this is so hard ???? take the internals of an M3 Macbook Pro and put them inside of a 32 inch studio display. Even if it made the display bigger they would sell millions of them….if they could keep the price under $6999 game over windows.

I'm eyeing the M3 Mac Mini but for many people the iMacs with any M processor will be overkill for the tasks they're doing.
iMac is for general purpose computing. A techie would more than likely buy a Mac that is more flexible - a Mini or Studio for example.

What would be easier: Just buy a macbook and plug it into a monitor of your choice. More flexibility, modular setup because you can exchange your monitor, easier to resell it later because not so many people buy an imac nowadays. And macbooks can be configured stronger than an imac or mac mini in this moment.

I currently have an M2 MacBook Air. Would I be better to buy an external monitor for it, or go all out and get the M3 iMac? I’m trying to find information online and I can’t find it anywhere. No one has done any kind of deep dive into which is the better option?

I had recently bought the M1 for the family and was able to return it because of the 14 day return policy. The M3 with 10 core GPU showed up on the 7th. Family loves it so far.

I'm waiting for the iMac pro 30" or 32" - I have an iMac 27" that works great until then. I'm not downgrading to a 24" iMac. Mac mini is 32gb max, and Mac studio is $7600 with the separate screen.

I need someone to tell me the base model iMac will be fine for several years for me as a regular user who plays a bit of football manager but I’m not hearing it 😢

Theory: Apple wants to see how their Apple Vision headset does. So, in order to not cannibalize sales of a very iffy product, they will wait to launch, what is by now, a highly anticipated product like the iMac Pro. Just my thinking, at this point I have zero interest in any VR/AR experiments. I like sitting at my desk surrounded by the real world, because it's nice to look away from the screen and realize the world is okay where I am sitting, and I am not just about to die. TL;DR. I have M1 mini and M2 mini but waiting for M4 mini with AV1 encode. Not getting an iMac unless it has touchscreen.

A 27 or 32in iMac with Pro or Max chips would/will be crazy expensive. I wouldn’t consider a MacBook Pro as an alternative given I don’t like the laptop form and I don’t need that portability. Plus I’d have to buy a bigger external display. Better to buy a Mac Studio Max with an external display.

But I really like the 24 iMac design. And the M3 with 16-24GB RAM and at least 512GB SSD would work for me (particularly for 3D modelling) given I keep my computers a long time. My current iMac is a 2011 21.5 with an i7, 500 GB SSD and 32 GB RAM. My iMac runs better than when it was new but, of course, I’m stuck at High Sierra.

just buy a damn laptop. I don't know why people buy all in one's. Maybe just boomers who want something super simple to set up and just sit in one spot. Definitely can't imagine someone tech savvy buying one. Makes sense why it only uses m3.

I for myself moved to a Mac mini M2 Pro paired with a Asus ProArt 27“ 4K display from my 27“ Intel iMac. I gave up on dreaming of a replacement because Apple just does not care. I guess the new iMac will be out of my budget anyway if it has mini LED and a 32“ display.
