Wow! No matter what, the tears start as the first piano notes are struck, and I see the way that Alyssa gazes at McKenzie. From there, as they deliver what may be the most gorgeous song in musical theatre history, and exchange looks, and facial expressions that SPEAK VOLUMES as they sing, my tears build. What singers. What actors. WHAT FEELING!

Glinda, who usually sings a higher octave, and Elphaba who usually does the opposite, switch octavesfor this song to symbolize the impact they've had on each other.

One of my favorite things about this duet is the actresses often break or release their character and just sing it to one another. And their chemistry speaks for itself.
