You may not be aware but it the performance issues could be due to the fact that in the cpu specs it states the it is max memory frequency is 5200mhz you are running 6000mhz

if you play arma 3, with a 6700xt it'll give you 90-200fps ez since the 7900x3d with windows 11.

Needed to flash the bios with an updated version twice, windows would not load otherwise, that was with an MAG MSI Tomahawk Mobo

It doesn't take a genius to see that the design of the 7950x3d will act as a hotter 7800x3d when gaming. In fact I never saw anything saying it was the pinnacle of gaming performance, it is more like the pinnacle of multi-use scenarios made for productivity users who would like to game without requiring extensive cooling.

After using 12900k for a year, I decided to switch back to the red and never look back. Intel’s chip was able to hit 27000 with 360mm water cooler in the first year. Then after only one year, the performance degraded to 25000. It hits the Temperature ceiling after only a few minutes running Cinebench R23. I wasted a whole tube of thermal paste and countless hours trying to get the temperature down but to no avail. Eventually I decided to sell my whole system at a dirt cheap price and drop over a thousand to upgrade to 7950x3d.

I just bought a 7950x3d and just saw this video, haven't put the build together yet. Hope it's decent. Maybe I should return the CPU and get a 7950x

After 5 months of the 7950X3D with the Asus board just randomly dropping power and stopping cold at random times and random days, finally (I think), Windows 11 is going to stay up with the latest motherboard bios update. This video was certainly appreciated greatly. The 7950X3D was chosen specifically for lower temperatures and power efficiency. In the end, though, I honestly think that the i9-13900K would have yielded so much less drama AND would have Thunderbolt come along with it.

Crazy story, widescreen 1440p HDR monitor/settings, my new 4080 with Ryzen 7 5800x only got 90fps in Tarkov on high settings and 120fps in Hunt, lots of frame drops same as my 2080ti no change at all, I went to the Ryzen 7 5800x 3D and it jumped my fps with the 4080 to 140fps in Tarkov and 160 in Hunt with Hunt's frame rate being more stable, I don't think other than 3D v cache there is much difference between those chips and we did a lot of troubleshooting on the CPU and GPU before I upgraded CPUs, everything was working as it should. I was blown away by those results

i think simply having software that is actually good at making use of 3D Cache will play a huge factor, and i dont believe theres any software that is build for that

I just got a fucking STEAL on a 7950x3d for $320 and it actually fucking works - oh boy howdy is she ever a fucking FAST CHIP, especially when I'm upgrading from a ryzen 2700x!

Do you really need the newest CPU from AMD to game? I am sure there are others out there that won't bottleneck operating at a lot less.

Honestly, i think the same performance for less energy would have sold me more, especially since im starting to care about how much power im drawing now that im no longer 19 and dont want to draw to much power both for the environment at large and for my family's power bill

Im just happy with my 5950x and the 3090 Gigabyte. I will not upgrade for a couple of generations before I buy the best again.

I mean if I'm getting that performance at half the wattage, all I hear is lower electric bill and still in the realm of the best gaming experience out there... that should be the selling point

i would have loved to buy into the energy efficiency and the upgradability of the AM5 plattform, but i bought intel, because of reliability and better workload performance. if i want to run less hot, i can make a harsher power limit, a tiny undervolt and a multicore boost frequency reduction in BIOS with intel as well.

Thank you for this honest review. I am in the process of updating my 270 chip set MB. I spent years suffering with Intel and going back to AMD. As someone that both games and uses his PC to do 3d design. I am looking for a CPU that can handle both worlds. Lower power draw is on of those things I am looking at.

So… what’s the story for Linux? Is this a game only, Windows-only CPU? I’m kinda disappointed. I thought the 3D chips would run at the same clocks as the 7950X and not require special drivers. I’m assuming even AMD found the performance disappointing when they had to lower the clocks too far to match the 7950X performance. Perhaps the next 3D chip won’t suffer as much?
