Welcome to construction i as a man did it for 5 years and man the bullying and gaslighting is horrible. Theyre rough everyone but in your case obviously youre a woman but im sure you're treated a little better aside from the catcalling obviously as a man youre treated like shit. Youre called all kinds of things and expected to take it. Glad i left. 5 years was way too long in that . Plus the hourse are shit even though i got paid well theyll be times where youre not working much

Catcalling in itself isn't that big of a deal but it's everything combined when working in this kind of environment that gets on your nerves. Or I mean it's the general attitude. Im not that phased by it but I could see a lot of women being put off by it enough to switch careers. It will change over time.

I've been thinking about this kinda stuff in general because truth be told, our government dont care about us. I had a plan when I entered this company, and I will keep working on it until I leave. Because the days of company loyalty are gone. Best believe they can give and take anything away. Laws will not stop them. Remember that folks! Id advise young ppl who enter this company to have a 2,5, 10 year plan. Dont just squander your money on bullshit. Pay off or down your debts as much as possible. Save if you can, even if its $5, $10, $20, and invest when you can. This year and the next few are going to look ugly, in my opinion.

I got suckered into working construction by my brother for over a decade in the 80’s because the money was so good. I quickly found out that some of those guys are sick individuals, fun but sick. They would catcall and make rude comments to everyone, including each other. What became hilarious to me was how clueless most of them were. I had to explain to a married coworker that a waitress was hitting on him because he was so oblivious to what was going on. He freaked, and we had to leave, and it didn't happen just once. The best was when a female construction worker shut down a loudmouth on a job site by calling him out on his verbal attempt to intimidate her, which he cowered from; it led to a nickname he was tagged with for the remainder of the time I worked at that site. Besides the fact that she could work circles around him, she most likely could have beaten him senseless. Good times. 😁
