ОтветитьI love the attention to detail in all your videos so much. Keep up the great work, sir!
ОтветитьA parts bin car that was surprisingly good. VW and the German State were A-holes from consumer perspective.
ОтветитьThat's the cool thing about a mechanical drive system. They can be designed to be very resilient. Today's car are shifting ever more to active controlled system with microchip as it's master, any failure with the semi-conductor and the whole car is bricked.
ОтветитьSo did the real locking diff have a dedicated control? Doesn't that put the lever count at three?
ОтветитьGreat and interesting.
Love automotive history
Fascinating stuff. Not a pretty car but tough as nails. Did the French end up buying some? I couldn't work that out. Thanks, always interesting to get your insights.
ОтветитьFor a one wheel drive to rank so highly in the Paris Dakar, I wonder what the other competitors were. They can't all have been Reliant Regals.
Ответить🔥
ОтветитьHey are you going to the Gumpert classic rally this weekend?
ОтветитьI started laughing my head off in anticipation when I heard "Piëch then gave the project to Gumpert"
ОтветитьKeeping this tradition giving vehicles animal names is one thing, but calling the G-Class Wolf is actually unbelievable
ОтветитьOnly a mother could love that design. No wonder it sold few units. About the same era, there was a small car for the Portuguese military derived from the 2CV chassis, only uglier. It was the Citroen FAF. Was there any contest for the ugliest car?!
ОтветитьIt sounds to me that VW wanted to kill any sales, either civilian or military? Wasn't it a good car? Why deliberately try to kill it?
ОтветитьI heard that G-wagen wasn't Mercedes at first, but Steyr was having financial difficulties, and Mercedes had bought Steyr's debts, in order to put Mercedes name on the Puch.
ОтветитьI love your videos, Champ. Heil Germany!!!
ОтветитьGreat video, love learning the history
ОтветитьI'd never have guessed the Australian Country Buggy had any influence over the design of the 181. I actually saw one being driven on the street just last week. Another excellent video on Germany's earlier automotive history. It's much appreciated.
ОтветитьThanks for educating me on the history of the Iltis. I had literally no idea. The only reason I knew it existed was because it's listed in the VW spare parts catalog 😄Very impressive and now I want one.😬
ОтветитьHey Im a Canadian with tons of friends and family who have served and I can assure you that the Iltis was never truly retired. They might not produce new ones, but they still use them all the time. We're still running those very same Iltis' and G Wagens in 2025
ОтветитьIt felt horrible to drive in the Bundeswehr Iltis because you thought it could fall over at any time (it was high compared to the width). Gladly we had our Unimogs. :-)
ОтветитьTo me it’s incredible how german car manufacturers made so many errors (like pushing with the two strokes engines in the F9’s and milking the old Beetle), lost so many years and all of that and in the end they are the ones at the top, VW especially. Every other car manufacturer as soon it takes a wrong path it just tears up.
