Chelsey- you need to get the book I Love You The Purplest!! It’s a children’s book but it’s soooo sweet for a mom of 2 boys.

Chelsey look at your lease documents! I think there’s a law that requires a mold addendum and should have all sorts of info about it.

Your landlord should be required to remove the mold! If it hasn’t spread, you will be able to still live in the place while they bring someone in to clean it! Make sure they test the air in your house too! Your house needs to be livable, and right now it’s not so your landlord will need to fix it! It shouldn’t be on you :) just went through this!

Ugh. Mold!!! As a former Orange County girlie that currently lives in Phoenix 😊I can't relate more. My brother was renting in south Orange County and he and his young family (they have 2 boys!) were CHRONICALLY sick. Lo and behold... mold! Under dressers, in shoes, on other furniture. Just insane. Their landlord was sadly so horrible about it and didn't take accountability but eventually they won the long hard fight so just stay on it and hopefully you won't have to move like they did. Good luck! 🙏🏼

Chelsey I knew it was mold the first time you mentioned your sinus issues! Research has found that 93% of chronic sinus issues are caused by mold. Then you mentioned that your house had mold so I messaged you. I was screaming through the podcast in my mind hahaha. I have been sick for 10 years with chronic illnesses that started 6 months after moving into an apartment. I didn't connect the two for a while because I didn't feel better when I moved, but I've now learned people can be colonized by mold and so even remediation won't fix it unless you fix the colonization. It sounds like you don't have a colonization issue yet thankfully! After remediation, you'll need to use nasal rinses for mold like Xylitol. That'll help wash the mold out of your sinuses.

Your landlord should cover the mold remediation but most remediation companies don't do it properly. I'd highly recommend @pjharlowwellness on Instagram to learn about proper remediation techniques. Improper remediation can make the issue so much worse. Hiring @pjharlowwellness can be incredibly helpful.

Sharing some of this so other people know too: an ERMI test is the most accurate mold test, it's a dust test you can order from Envirobiomics. You'd have to learn how to do it accurately (you want to test high areas in your house like above door frames or ceiling fans, medium areas like above picture frames or TV's, and low areas like on baseboards - do not test bathrooms, kitchens, floors). Air testing only shows what's directly around the machine and won't pick up heavier molds. By the time you have visible mold, you usually have a pretty bad issue (remediation and cleaning the house and all porous belongings can help though, you don't necessarily have to move). 1 square inch of mold has 1 million mold spores, 1 million mold spores contain 500 million mold fragments. And 500 million mold fragments could fill multiple balloons of air with mycotoxins.

Other facts: humidity above 50% can cause mold issues. Over 80% of houses in the States have a mold issue. Some are worse than others. Unfortunately, there's no such thing as "nontoxic" mold. All mold is toxic, but stachy is the species that is most toxic that they probably picked up on. That's the kind that's most neurotoxic. Not everyone develops symptoms from mold; some people are better detoxers. Women and children tend to have worse symptoms. It also depends on your genetics.

Feel free to message me at @sarahmcoft on Instagram if you have any questions. It's overwhelming but once you have proper remediation done and have detoxed your body and cleaned all of your clothes (that's necessary or else proper remediation won't be enough), you'll feel so much better. In the meantime, keep your windows open as much as possible. It can cause increased humidity to keep the windows open but you also need as much fresh air as possible right now. That plus getting a dehumidifier can help in the meantime. You might not want to buy an air purifier until remediation has been done unless you can fully disinfect the air purifier. IQAir is the best type of air purifier says Dr. Jill Crista (mold expert); other purifiers can actually act like a petri dish for mold.

Chelsey,
Once you've got all of that figured out. I did my own research when I found mold in my air ducts. I wanted to detox so badly. I looked into salt spas. Once you've gotten answers on the mold in your home I would consider looking into some sessions in a salt suite. There are some that are kid friendly and your kids can sit in with you. I don't know, could be something to consider moving forward. Do your research for sure! Good luck🤍

I have mold illness as well and haven’t been able to fully detox yet, mold affects your nervous system, gut & hormones — so definitely explains how you’ve been feeling! ❤️‍🩹

Chelsey, did you use the Mold Armor test kit ? Just curious because I work for the company that makes those and tests them! We also make a product called Damprid, which is great for absorbing unwanted moisture. I didn’t know about these before but now I keep the hanging bags in my closet and it’s crazy the amount of moisture it gets!!!

Chelsey, from one girl living in a moldy house to another I went to the doctors freaking out bc my 3 and under 1 year old have been living in our moldy house and he assured me that our bodies are meant to have filters for these kinds of things and if they had mold poisoning they would be VERY sick, like hospital sick. Not saying don’t fix it just reassuring you you haven’t damaged them 🫶🏻

omg chelsea!! as someone who’s 18yo sister has been CHRONICALLY sick for years, finally a doctor asked us about mold…and that’s how we found a moldy humidifier filter in my parents basement that had been there for LITERAL YEARS.

BUT, you can have your blood tested and if it’s positive (like us😅) there’s an anti-fungal script you can take for 6months that’s had great success ❤️ it can affect everyone in the house differently. In our case my sister had it the worst (symptom wise), but even my parents and I tested positive. We did have to replace our floors and deep clean our vents. but thats such a freak case, it seems like yours hasn’t been around nearly as long and i hope for your guys’ sake it’s not to this degree!!

Hi girls!! Where I live mold is very very common and I know there is a type of paint that you can buy that helps stop more mold from growing. It is most likely from the moisture on your wall and in your bathroom. We paint our house with it and it has helped a lot. Thought I’d let you know :)
