I would love an electric motorcycle. But my commute is 55mi each way... As soon as I can get an electric motorcycle with heated grips and a 150mi range, for under $12k, I'm on board.

When i took my msf course they didnt even have a honda rebel

My msf class used HD street 500s. The range was too small to properly run some of the exercises, as we were supposed to get into 3rd gear.

Two things. Bikes look cool because there are not so many of them in the street. Coming from a country with a lot of motorcycles in the streets I can tell you it becomes so terrible. Lane splitting is a very bad idea. I don't know how California with all restrictions for everything are still letting this to happen. A lane is only for one vehicle not a car and motorcycle. A car has the right to move to the left and right as long as it is in it's lane. With the motorcycles sharing the lane, one second driver looks at the mirror and nothing is there and suddenly a motorcycle feels the gap and then a stupid accident. Don't buy a motorcycle to get to the destination faster. Buy because you are enjoying to ride.

Filtering is a way to make riders safer
By filtering to the front of the group at lights it allows the rider to ride in the less congested and often open spaces of traffic
Filtering should be legal everywhere
But non riders always hate it because they don't have the option
Or the balls/permission to get a bike of their own

Bike rentals are great for figuring out if you want that certain bike or type of bike, or to allow brothers/friends with the license but dont have a bike yet to try something new and convince them to get one.

Old vid but... I contend that the rebel is perfect for MSF classes. The other options have horrid seats. Dunno bout elsewhere, but round here you'll spend about ten hours (total) on the bike in class. Nobody but you sportbike Bros like sitting on a beer coozie. Go ahead sling some hate, my only sportbike was a 999, yes it's ugly, but it was fast and I thought I was getting a good deal... Squid move...

Electric bikes are not cool. So much love and care goes into building an engine and the roar and rumble cannot be matched with a battery bike.

No way in hell I would ride a ride-share bike. Who knows how poorly maintained the bike could be, or what your shared bike is going to endure. If history teaches us anything, it's that people don't give a shit unless it's their own property.

Most mods are for POWER.
Personally, I want a long range bike for touring and most choices will need modifications with my Mechanic pal.

As far as electric bikes go: one more thing holding them back from mainstream - the price $$$. If you want an electric bike that compares to even a 250/400/600cc bike, you are already looking @ 10k. or doing a conversion yourself, and while I would, it strikes me as odd that I've found so many videos on how to do it, (in which cost is mentioned casually at best, non-inclusive at worst) and absolutely no videos with dudes riding them on the regular. If I had made an electric comparable to anything gas powered, I'd definitely start vlogging about it, and I dont even currently have a go-pro. no - sorry. this is indicative of the conversions just being tinker toys, and not daily riders. Speaking of which, how many of these electric bikes, industry built or conversion, could efficiently take you on a cross country ride? gas stations are aplenty, but I don't see me waiting 3-5-8hrs every time i need a charge.

Rebel 250s are parallel twins, as are the 450s. However, the new 300s & 500s are single cylinder, I believe.

My MSF course consisted of honda rebels, cb125's, honda lightning's, and Suzuki 250x's

Electric bikes Need to be able to do a decent range (150/ 200 miles) before people will even consider buying them

All I can say is that after a dozen years riding in the Berkshires and Catskills, I'm not looking forward to riding in Texas.
