How To Take Criticism: The Nostalgia Critic vs Linkara

Doug just seems like that uncle who always tried his best to make all his nieces and nephews laugh hysterically whenever the holidays came around

I like Dough Walker's Disneycember Reviews more than his Nostalgia Critic reviews because he's more relaxed and informative in them, his honest reviews are too passive and casual though. So his Disneycember one is a nice balance. HOWEVER, his Mulan and Hercules review were pretty bad, just the worst takes lol and people rightfully made fun of them. "Why does Greece look like Las Vegas??" because Las Vegas looks like Greece and Rome! So it's the joke! Same with a few points he made with Mulan, the both of them are beloved Disney movies and he can have his own opinion and take but he got minor backlash from them that his Nostalgia Critic review of the original and the remake he tried to praise it more.

I think whatever Nostalgia Critic has done it's never been actually harmful or malicious to anyone, he's just grinding as said.

Linkara on the other hand, I at one point respected him more than Nostalgia Critic, his History of Power Ranger reviews were nice. I honestly didn't think too much about his rants or where he's actually being quite pretentious, I mostly just glossed over it "It'll be out when it's out!" sometimes stress gets to point but yeah ranting about it as if you're someone superior when you just review Comic Books and Power Rangers is quite pathetic indeed. With that Linkara is definitely worse than Nostalgia Critic.

Given NC's infamous 'The Wall' review included several rants about people criticising him [such as 'waiting for the point'] I don't think he takes criticism well [similar to how his 'mistakes' video had a character mocking those who point errors out.

Linkara could have leaned into the Lightbringer bit. Like "I wrote bad comics so I know bad comics better than anyone!" But nope. Glad to see Doug can laugh at himself and the current team seems to be happy with their workplace. Hope that from a management standpoint everyone is doing better. Seems from the outside like Doug learned a lot. Hope its true.

im not a fan of oneyplays just because they never know when to just shut the hell up, or let a joke end. they laugh and get a few good puns in there but then someone else feels the need to take that funny joke and keep rolling with it as if the laughs are just suppose to keep coming. alot of the content really is hit and miss and i think alot of people put them on a higher pedestal than they deserve to be on and im not trying to be mean about that. its just that they have a unique animation style which to me is very ugly and unappealing but hey thats just my opinion, and they like said just keep cracking jokes without time to let them land properly. if i had to compare it to what it feels like i would say its like a toddlers channel where there is constant noise and colors, and movement with literally no time for silence of stagnation. to me thats oneyplays, a channel that is just alot of noise, colors, and movement so that people dont lose interest within 5 seconds and if im being honest thats alot of channels really, animated game grumps being a perfect example of constant noise and exaggerated movement for cheap laughs.
im glad critic can take the jokes and insults about him with not care in the world and even some amusement, but i think we all knew linkara was just a self centered prick with a hyper inflated ego that bruises easily.

Linkara has weak points. We all do. Continuing to make fun of him at that point is a really shit move.

I think the important thing to note is that Chris is legitimately a fan of Nostalgia Critic and Linkara.

Honestly, I never heard of oney before. I discovered the channel back in the day. I mainly watched Nostalgia and AT4W.. Then lost interest because of my Netflix subscription and lately rekindled with Linkara. His reviews were funny even though spiteful. He seemed to be punching up though.
Then the YT algorithm brought me here. And from the "jokes" about the two the video showed they seemed different in quality.
Doug received jokes about his voice of his character. Lewis about his (cringe) work and his (ex-)girlfriend. One feels more personal than the other.

He's literally like "Don't you talk about me, you son of a bitch!"

I'm just happy that Doug is in a good place. I recall some years back when the entire internet deemed him public enemy #1 over that whole controversy, and I thought it was kinda silly. I still do. People were treating him like some he greedy mastermind conman when really, we was just a dude who screwed up. I think a lot of the Nostalgia Critic's humor has aged pretty poorly, but I never stopped thinking Doug Walker was a decent guy. These shenanigans with OneyPlays proved it all the more for me.

Thing with doug past is his films are alright not awesome but you can tell why he has a passion for movies

What's funny is people wish doug went back to screaming but he said he had to stop cause it actually hurts him like it has affected him

I loathe TMZ, but its fun to have these sort of "where are they now/what's going on" with these "celebrities" we grew up with. As mentioned in my Tony Goldmark video it truly is insane how big an impact these creators had on us and I am so curious to see where the saga goes. Never gave OneyPlays a proper shot, gotta check em out

I met linkara at a convention once. It was before I went to art school and the only thing I had for him to sign was my sketchbook. He liked my drawings and that gave me a confidence boost I needed at the time.

I can never understand getting mad that Oneyplays is making funny scenario jokes of you it isn't really that offensive or mocking...

Oneyplays always jokes about those they like or things they like, never once have I thought oh these jokes as malicious or with harmful intent...

I agree that Lewis shouldn’t have said what he said in response to Oneyplays on that livestream.

Having said that, however, I don’t blame him for being annoyed at people making jokes about something he clearly wants kept in the past and has moved on from.

Try and look at it this way: You make something that you’re proud of at the time, something you’re incredibly proud of at that very moment because you made it with your own two hands. But then time goes by and you look back and say, ‘Good grief. This is terrible! What was I thinking?’. Then you move on and put in as much effort as you can to improve your current work so it’s something you can be proud of and it’s something other people can watch and enjoy.

But then people find out about the thing you made in the past and bring it up time and time again despite it being something you don’t want to think about because it’s something you’re deeply embarrassed by.

Again, none of this justifies what Lewis said in that livestream, but I think it’s a little unfair for people to use Lightbringer as an excuse to criticize him and his work when he’s clearly gotten better over the years and turned out some great stuff. And if you don’t believe me, just check out A Voice From The Dark or Winter of 83.

Doug and Rob are family friends of ours, and I can 100% confirm that Doug (as well as the rest of them) are all super chill and nice!
