If you can stand the noise of the fan (I am super-sensitive) be aware that nvme fan-cooled sled/housing only accepts single sided nvme - hence the up to 2TB on website - I nearly crushed a double-sided 4TB today!

Stability is still an issue with 64GB ram , going to try and set power limit down and/or get a 150w psu.

Sounds like a killer for VMware labs, if vSphere 8 can support the NICs.

Would you want to make a video with my HP Elitedesk 800 G5 Mini 95 watt model with 9700k? It has a massive cooler that takes up the space where a 2.5" drive or dgpu would normally go, and has a second fan.

I havent seen any others on ebay yet, except a G6 10700k sold by the same seller.

I completely agree with the conclusion, Intel Wi-Fi and an extra NVMe Slot. Maybe they can make those changes with Meteor Lake. Interesting, the USB-C ports are not Thunderbolt 4. I'm waiting for Thunderbolt 5 and Wi-Fi 7 to become more mainstream. Love the dual 2.5 NICs do we have AVB support? Thanks for the video.

Minisforum NPB7 is great for console gamers that use their desktop for work, bills, and general web browsing. The easy to access RAM & SSD makes it great for small offices too.

With Intel Iris XE graphics, I would not recommend it for personal home PC gaming. Just disappointing for PC gamers. Minisforum UM790 and its AMD Radeon 780M iGPU is far better. Still not PC tower level with Nvidia RTX 4090 GPU, but good enough to compete with non-AAA console games. Forza Horizon 5 gets between 60 FPS to 80 FPS with QHD resolution and medium settings with the Minisforum UM790.

Cool! I appreciate the rundown on the NPB7.
I've been comparing these two units to replace Windows laptops -- 99.9% docked. : ) (Windows required for software)
Buuut stability seems to be an issue, just teething problems I hope. After six months I hope we're in a better place. lol
-->> Totally agree that it is weird to have different sized chassis for each platform AND to not use the same M.2 WiFi modules. Why not standardize components? Ah well.
Would the i5-13500H been such a huge step down?

Couldn't agree more with your key lessons learned. I don't want a super powerful and expensive configuration with inadequate cooling. Make the cooling solution fit the TDP, or at least go above the absolute minimum is a priority for me in any product. I wish gaming laptops followed this as well. I want to buy a system based off it's energy use vs it's cooling solution so I can get the most of the the hardware.

The days of a giant PC box is over. I have a mini PC that replaced a gigantic PC box from a few years ago, and it's considerably more powerful. The only reason left for a gigantic PC box is if you are a gamer in need of a gigantic dGPU to make things work, although why an energy sucking gigantic dGPU is still needed today is a different question to ask on another day.

What's really cool is I can pack up my mini into a pack back and go on a trip for several weeks. I have dual portable 4K monitors, and will set it up on a desk as if I'm still at home, no one even knows I'm away, no one cares as long as sh*t gets done on time. BTW I took the mini and monitors across North America and Europe without any issues, easy to get it through security checks.

That NVME fan is mental as there doesn't seem to be any ventilation, so its just circulating inside that top space getting hotter and hotter.

What is the vertical white connector for situated near the Wi-Fi card? I suspect they used that type of Wi-Fi card because it was what they had. The size of these miniature PCs is kinda cool until you see the size of the power brick. Which in this case is the size of a real brick. Do the external power bricks produce a lot of heat? Like to the point you'd have to place them on a metal box to serve as a heat spreader? I have to do that with the power bricks for my laptops and mini PC. Personally I still favor baby towers and full tower server cases for the greater internal upgrade options they afford me. Plus I still use optical drives and HDDs for my computers.

It's amazing what they can fit in that tiny form factor. This little box has about the same performance of my full size Ryzen desktop from just a few years ago. I thought these mini PCs were toys but your reviews have opened my eyes. Thanks!

That's the problem with Intel-based mini PCs and NUCs -- the thermal throttle themselves like crazy (or they have PL1, PL2, and tau, which means that you can only get that peak level of performance for a short period of time before it will just cook itself).

I can get more consistent and more reliable performance out of AMD CPUs than I can with Intel-based systems.

800 bucks!! Yeah no thanks, I'll pass. Think of what you could do with 800 bucks. Pay other bills in this Biden economy. I mean don't get me wrong I want the mini pc but come on. For $800 bucks it should be somewhat bigger with more beef. Just a waste of money to buy these now, wait a few years and save money.

Hey P - Just bought this barebone. It's maybe worth mentioning this tiny thing... Minisforum says supports 64GB of RAM but I dropped in 96GB of 5600 Mhz DDR5 and it's operating the 96GB at 5200 Mhz. I am the market that wanted a dinky hypervisor that would be mostly idle.

I think the biggest pain point for me is locating drivers... like for the Mediatek wireless adapter (Windows).
