I have only two tips to add to it.
One, trust your tree, make choices based on what it's doing, not necessarily the "rules". We planted 5 more fruit trees during the lockdown, 4 of which I won't let fruit as they are still small and just getting settled. But one of them, a Magnus Summer Apple exploded, 3ft to 9ft in a single year. I am going to let it fully fruit this year to help slow it down. Trust the tree and make choices based on what it is doing.
Second, know your climate, here in Melbourne, Australia, we have a warm Autumn and usually a mild start to winter, and yet still get 800-1000 chill hours. In the first month of winter, I still have stone fruit that is actively growing. Same with all my citrus. Knowing that you can make pruning decisions better, and also fertilising, I add fertiliser during Autumn because things will continue to grow up until July. (Mid winter)
Should you plant a whip in the ground or in a bucket to transplant later?
ОтветитьSome extremely useful tips there. Thank you.
ОтветитьI"m living in MN (zone 4 B). I got some Asian pear trees. I watched a lot of clips about pruning.
I'm confusing about that.
What's different between summer pruning and winter pruning? which one for more fruit and which one for shape

ОтветитьThank you so much for your very informative video. I do have a question- will a 2 yrs old tree survive if i prune it in the fall (like october when the weather is like 50-60 F)?
Thank you
I pruned like 95% of the apples on my young tree and left a few to see how they tasted as long as it's not stressing out the branch you can still enjoy some.
ОтветитьCan you give me new varieties of apple sticks 😍
ОтветитьI’m so glad I found you 😭 we bought a house and inherited two apple trees, two pear trees, two plum trees, a persimmon tree, three fig trees, a baby pomegranate tree, and a muscadine vine that are all sickly and my husband and I have no idea how to care for them. I’m watching all your videos now!
Ответить✔️✔️✔️👌🌹❤️🤔📌
ОтветитьGreat presentation and some very informative info. My only recommendation to what I heard is the removal of fruit for the health of the tree would be even better if the fruit is removed for the first 3 years of its growth. Thanks for posting.
Ответить1) prune once a year 2) water deeply 2 times a week 3) 2 years no fruit 4) fewer fruits on each branch
ОтветитьLove from Kashmir.
ОтветитьSaved me a lot of disappointment.
ОтветитьI am from Pakistan I just planted cheery please guide me
ОтветитьSo during the first two years, exactly how large should you let the fruit get before removing it?
ОтветитьI bought Mayer Lemon Tree from Costco last year. It might have come to me when it was 2-3 years old. Should I remove small fruits and not let it bear any this year?
ОтветитьHello Madam, I live in Kenya and i am very keen about growing apple varieties that can produce fruits in the tropics. Please advise what i can do. Just so desperate. I really love growing fruit trees of all kinds but growing apples is stressing me. I want to succeed. Please give me a few tips.
ОтветитьIve just started this year and i have 2 lemon 3 orange and 17 pink ladies... Lol so now they have sprouted how should i care for them indoors over the winter? They are only about 6 months to a year at the moment...
ОтветитьThank you for your video! I have a question which sort of Apple tee has a sweet apple? I would like to plant an apple tree but I have no idea which sort. I don't like sour apples. We live in Saskatchewan. Thank you!
ОтветитьWe planted twisted Apple tree a couple springs ago and knew nothing on how to care for it. It's seemingly doing fine but it's small so I'm thinking I should remove the small fruit and start pruning. Should we wait until next spring to prune?
ОтветитьThe best advice for watering fruit trees regardless of age, is to water no more frequently than every two weeks as long as the watering completely soaks the root zone. Commercial orchards use that approach in the temperate northwest of the US for all their trees except nectarines, which need even less water.
Ответитьfertilizer
Ответить👍❤️
ОтветитьGood job
ОтветитьI asked a commerical orchardist what they did for their young apple trees and he said first thing we remove all fruit for the first 3 years of the trees growth. I believe a minimun of 2 is okay but it's all about growing structure for the tree in later years for supporting the heavy fruit.
ОтветитьThank you. New Sub.
ОтветитьCare for dwarf trees. Any ideas about citrus trees?
ОтветитьYou are so appreciated thank you and God bless you
ОтветитьThank you for the video. Wish I saw this video in 2016.
Ответить36 Inch cut is too high . Makes the branches too high for ground picking . My opinion only . Cut at 36 inches perhaps and select branches as laterals at the 10 to 18 inch height as they grow 45° angle upward
ОтветитьWell that's one way to look at secret number three . Another way is to allow the fruit to develop to slow the vigor down . Slow the rate of growth of the laterals so that the energy [ carbohydrates ] will be directed in fruit bud or spur development .. I have had problems in the branches growing to much In length with too much blind wood from the base of the lateral to the terminal end . This year I'm going to let the fruit form to encourage more fruit budding rather than trunk and branch height and length
ОтветитьPoisoner huh suspicious name
ОтветитьAppreciate the well made information!
ОтветитьLOVE THIS VID. / INFO. !🍁👋👍✌THANK YOU !!!!!!!! }from SCOMBERG Ont.{
Ответить...NEVER PRUNE WHEN THE TRUNK AND BRANCHES ARE WET...
ОтветитьThanks so much for your videos. This is the first one I've watched, but I plan to watch many more. I planted 12 fruit trees over the past five years, and am now realizing I lack the knowledge to keep them healthy. My peach trees lost several large branches, due to the weight of the fruit. I'm hoping to find some information about how to repair damage as well as what to do about half-broken branches.
Ответитьso right about remove baby fruit for the first two year, I suffered so many broken branches.
ОтветитьI've got two trees each with five kinds of apples how do I prune it . Is it better to prune when tree is dormant?
ОтветитьThanks. Very handy information
ОтветитьBest video for successful fruit trees treatment. Thank you.
ОтветитьWhat can you do about white aphids and snow like substance on guava leaves? we put on neem oil with soap and it did not work, two bottles worth.
ОтветитьHi 😄 do you have a tutorial for pruning apples , persimmons , avocados, cherries , nectarines, peaches , guavas, and or cherimoyas ? I would imagine the pruning approaches are similar .
For instance , would it be okay to prune back to the 3rd bud for stronger branches ? I also heard that inserting spacers to bend vertical branches to 75-90 degrees is good for making stronger better fruit bearing branches.
Also , when you say to remove fruits the first two years would it be okay to just remove the flowers before the fruits even appear ?
Thanks so much for the clarification !
Nice, keep it up buddy.
Ответитьwow thanks mam i m dd thakur from kullu manali india
Ответитьbest to you and ty for the info
ОтветитьThanks for a good video. And thanks for not going on and on about "organic". Even when it's true, it is trendy, faddish talk well before now.
I think tree pruners have to decide which pruning theory they subscribe to. For my most recent apple tree I let it grow wild for a year first, the idea being, that since food is made in the leaves, it encouraged tree growth and root growth. In the second year I did the more severe pruning for structure.
Many people have never heard of temporary branches that are left on the tree, but will come off in the future. So you need to have a good idea of the final form of the tree.
And what about mulch around the tree? Killing the excess of grass cuts back on the tree's efforts to get moisture and nutrients.
Pick a good sensible pruning program, study it and stick with it.
Thank you lady
