I was never happy with our nations level of trade and exposure to China's government. If you think a Chinese company of such size is not under the thumb of Xi and the Central Committee, think again.

Hmm worries about The chinese spying on us...Didn't Edward Snowden blow a very loud whistle that the US and every wealthy country does this all the time? Gee I guess to western thinking only the "good governments" are the ones allowed to spy. What a load of BS we are surveilled by our corporations and governments every second but the Chinese are the boogeyman...yeah right. Jim baby we lost our sovereignty when we got "free trade" agreements. I guess Jim here has no idea how corrupt Canada is, he's just another average Canadian that thinks we are not like the others.

Canada is a patsy for China. Look at the FIPA agreement Harper signed guaranteeing oil via pipeline to west coast. But nobody ever talks about it. It's governments dirty secret.

Canada is a Sheep in a game full of wolves. People running the government have never been ambitious in doing what's best for us. A bunch of YES men and women following the lead of a county that's been the most corrupt for the past century. The world is laughing at us. We have an PM that think he's some GQ model, while the States have the orange hair bandit. Hell of a time we be living in.

I am from California and the Chinese here will never fly a Chinese flag nor will they stand outside a court house protesting like they do in Canada . Plain and simple . Canadians have given up their sovereignty to China in exchange for a few hundred million dollars . Canada is a joke

So many comments blaming the US and seeming to argue that China is right. But in reality you can’t deny that the control of big international firms is threatening. Huawei has operated as an arm of the Chinese state in the past. Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple are not in cohorts with the US government, even if they do collect massive amounts of data. People commenting don’t seem to see that China invests for political gain and more power. Foreign firms need to be under more close regulation at a minimum, because the control they have over every single user’s data is a huge responsibility that should not be given lightly.

Huawei was able to produce hardware because the production facilities are located in China. America has this work done in China. Huawei invested into R&D but so do all technology companies using shareholder money.

The guy stopped short to admit that the 5 "eye" countries have been using their telecom equipment to spy on other countries and their own citizen. Nevertheless, Snowden has already disclosed the fact that the US clearly did, even on its allies who are not part of 5 eyes, like Germany. You can be certain that all other 4 eyes including Canada did.

Sounds like we should stop international trade and stop international academic exchanges. We should not use anything that is not build in Canada. We should not use Android phone nor iPhone but just Blackberry. We should stop any foreign company to invest R&D in Canada instead of industrial espionage.
