I remember this when it was first repeated on UK Gold back in 1993 and I must have watched every single episode. As for when it first aired, I'd not long turned three.
ОтветитьBernard Hepton was simply outstanding
ОтветитьThank you for posting this incredible series, was 9 when the first series mid 70s aired and loved it then, read many books about Colditz thanks to Pat Reid and Airey Neave etc and have many fond memories re watching this...outstanding cast and actors...cheers from New Zealand
Ответитьshame the liberating American Colonel had to be reminded of his Duty .
ОтветитьOne of the best
ОтветитьIrritating actors of the whole show the italian american soldier and dodd 🤮
ОтветитьAmazing series in every way . Watched it in the 70’s . Enjoyed it so much again! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
ОтветитьFantastic series.
ОтветитьLoved watching the series thank you!
ОтветитьTruly remarkable. Thank you.
ОтветитьBrilliant series
ОтветитьExcellent series.
ОтветитьTo bad the lead actor got away with murdering his wife
ОтветитьI was on holiday in Majorca and got talking to a Dutch guy. He was able to get the bbc in Holland in the 70s and managed to teach himself English when watching colditz.
ОтветитьReally enjoyed revisiting this after a lifetime. On reflection it has more than a few boarding school parallels.
ОтветитьSuperb. Many thanks for the complete series.
ОтветитьDear old ed bishop ! UFO👍
ОтветитьI am not yet watched all episodes but what happened to Dick Player ?
ОтветитьI've just watched this series for the first time since it was originally aired, and really got engaged with it. Great series. I was fortunate to know one of the prisoners who built the glider in the attic, thoroughly nice self-effacing chap who kept on flying well into his 80's (he had a little Jodel aeroplane). It felt like a connection to this story.
ОтветитьA fantastic programme that I remember from my youth. I have just binge watched both series over three days and thoroughly enjoyed them.
Does anyone know what happened to Anthony Valentines character Major Mohn(?)
It was first class. Bernard Hepton is an excellent actor he plays Albert Foiret in the Secret Army another masterpiece worth watching
ОтветитьHistory, even sim- accurate, still leads a horse to water, of the past?😅
ОтветитьMy Grandfather spent almost 5 years a POW, captured at Dunkerque. He spent 6 months recuperating after liberation. Didn't hate the Germans. Never spoke of the march west, his camp was in what is now Poland.
ОтветитьNo US servicemen took part in a Colditz escape attempt. They were not even at the camp when the attempts took place.
ОтветитьBernard Hepton was my Uncle's brother on my mother's side of the family, real name Heptonstall, he was born in Bradford where I grew up, he used to come to family Christmas parties when I was a boy, he shook my hand once, I didn't wash it for a week lol..he was a lovely man..R.I.P. Uncle Bernard, loved and never forgotten...
ОтветитьPity there's no mention of NZ Army Capt Charlie Upham VC & Bar who was held prisoner at Colditz after several escape attempts. Immediately upon liberation he asked the Americans for a gun & grenades, the latter his favourite weapon, in order that he could resume fighting the Germans. I'm unsure how far he got in his personal vendetta before the Brit authorities caught up with him and ordered him to pack it in.
Ответить- Tweedle dum-=- One of the finest dramatic episodes of Coldidz in yje history of television drama..
ОтветитьWell I came across this 3 weeks ago having watched it the first time over 40 years ago with my grandfather, have watched all the episodes almost back to back, great acting ,great stories and great memories, they do not do real drama like this any more for sure
ОтветитьAaaand the Americans save the day lol, I love this series and watch it start to finish all the time but I've come to realise the deeper I go that the whole Colditz thing was as much fiction as the tv show
ОтветитьBrilliant series. great acting from the German side, criticisms; worst character the American colonel imo, and what happened to Dick Player?
ОтветитьIve watched the whole series, again, first time in 1972? i although only 12 then, it was impressive, but now quite an incredible plot
but as an adult now, i understand an awful lot more, it must of been unbearable for the Allied forces, and i imagine, the Germans were portrayed favourably, that was probably, incorrect
What an incredible actor Bernard Hepton was; always instilling his roles with great emotion.
ОтветитьAn observation when in the prior episode he found his son had been crushed by a Russian Tank and not taken prisoner Kommandant was fearful of being captured by the Russians knowing how brutal they were and was relieved that he and his men were placed in allied hands.
ОтветитьThe POWs playing volleyball and the like so enthusiastically must have been relative newcomers. Prisoners who'd been on semi-starvation rations for many months had hardly enough energy to stand at attention.
ОтветитьSaddest part is that for the liberated NCOs the real struggle was just beginning, coming home to uncertain futures, at least in the castle they had purpose, I almost feel sorry for them going back home, at least they'd all passed on before they could see how conned they all were and how in vain their efforts were, I'm old enough to have known them, I wish I hadn't lived to see the elitist treachery and British self-loathing
ОтветитьI have seen this entire series probably three times over the years. I always think at that moment of goodbye between Col Preston and the Kommodant there should have been a handshake.
ОтветитьWhy are the Germans speaking English to each other?
ОтветитьI've been fascinated by the motorcycles appearance since I first saw it as a teenager. The best I've got so far is that I think it's a Zundapp KS600, the forks give it away, but the motor looks a bit different to a period bike, so may be a post war model. Anyone else care to chime in with some real expertise?
ОтветитьI read somewhere that the part of the American soldier who liberates Colditz is played by a very young Dennis Quaid.
ОтветитьIf you liked this you must watch Secret Army with Player and the Kommandant. Also Enemy at the door
ОтветитьI thought i recognised the voice of the yank major in the jeep. Ed Bishop of UFO fame
ОтветитьSuperb!
ОтветитьWell, that was a wonderful series. So many top class performances, it's hard to pick a favourite.
Wagner's understated delivery, Valentine's barely suppressed mania, Meyer oozing class from every pore, and Hedley's incredible Col Preston.
"The first condition will be - the defence and administration of this castle pass under our control effective as of this moment."
Very different characterization of the Americans here, than on dads army.....nice to see at least someone on the writing staff was grateful
Ответить❤
ОтветитьI know I know, but really, American tankers wearing RTR berets? Churchill tanks a Shermans? But Ed Bishop? All is forgiven.
