They found a WW2 uxb on Brighton beach yesterday 1st Jan 2023, crowd stood a 100M away for bomb squad to detonate it, many were expecting an amusing little crack or something. The bloody thing sent a thunderclap through the air and pulled up a bit of the Beach and peoples ears rang like a biblical chorus of Angels. It was heard for miles around. It takes just one of those stray WW2 monsters to shake you up a little and tell you what this country was up against 80+ years ago.

Back in the late 60s i was with my grandad walking one of the beaches in the Isle of Wight, we noticed a large object in the water , was cylindrical in shape , probably a good 4ft / 5ft high , we dragged it out of the sea and placed it on the beach and then started to throw stones at it . An old land rover like above appeared from nowhere and some blokes jumped out and told us to clear off lol , not sure what it was but we were told to retreat off the beach and they did a controlled explosion on it, i will never forget that.

My family saw a large spherical mine washed up on a beach in Northumberland in the early 1960s. It was red and had spikes sticking out of it. My father said they could sink ships. I was just a young kid, I have no idea what happened to it.

That mine sure was clean for being exposed to ocean for 20 years.

This reminded me of all those people who sometimes take home found but not detonated grenades and put them in a bookshelf for cool decoration. And there went the neighborhood. Not yet, but soon.

In the 60s the rule was if you saw something metal on the beach you stayed away from it and called the Coastguard. They were still blowing them up in the 90s. The mine at the harbour was for coin donations. There used to be one pretty much in every harbour.
