The end point is good one. If Hoyoverse wants a character to be strong they'll make them strong no matter what.

Honestly after watching the video I think that this would be a much more consistent tier list and a much better video informatively if this was a TEAM ARCHETYPE tier list.

Because then you could be a whole lot more consistent with your criteria and pinpoint the value of a reaction way easier aswell. Like for example:
Current meta position; Options/Enablers/Overall characters that sinergize with the reaction itself; Damage potential/Scaling; Comfort, Ease of use, Convenience and Consistency; Flexibility and How restrictive the reaction is (both on how the reaction itself applies and on enablers for the reaction); Possibly future meta value? (Some speculation about future releases could be interesting, for example, with how Cryo could skyrocket with the release of Snezhnhaya)

And so on so forth.
I think a video like that could also go much more in-depth about each Archetype and their respective MVP'S, even not only being limited by elemental reactions but overall things you can make a team out of in the game (Like plunge teams, Nilou teams, Mono Geo teams, Triple Anemo teams... and the list goes on)
I think the video was interesting and entertaining enough (even while under such a flawed premise from the beginning, which I think you noticed quite early into the video lol), but I genuinely think something under the lines of what I suggested would be overall more informative, more entertaining to watch and possibly just as usefull, if not even MORE usefull than a character tier list (since no character in this game works without a team built around them, and a video like that could clarify a lot of things for newer players who want to main a character and/or an element)

But thats just my opinnion, and I'm looking forward to more videos like this (hopefully with better premises than this one)

Also I know that what I suggested requires a lot of work to do, to rate every type of team you could do in the game, but granted I think its just as relevant if not more than a character tier list, I genuinely think it would be worth it to go in-depth in the rankings and explanations about pros and cons of each team Archetype and what makes each of them viable and even great.

Anyways, Keep up the good work Jello!

I usually don't comment but this video deserves one. It made my day by how entertaining it was. Just your thought prozess was fun and interesting to follow, your struggling really funny but also relatable. And I like the conclusion. Is it a helpful video about reactions and elements? Not really, but sometimes we need a reminder that it's not always that serious. :D

For 3 out of 5 game versions, crystallize was a non-reaction, with negligible contribution to overall team damage. Xilonen and Navia use crystallize to trigger buffs or stacks, not to cause damage. Placing it on T1 (ABOVE hyperbloom!) because 2 out of 90 characters (2.2% of the roster) use it to trigger buffs (however significant) is honestly crazy.

I think you identified that this was kinda an impossible task. Good job to stick with it and make it to the end. I think if you add some more conditions it would be a little easier and I agree that units make it so hard as swapping an element of a character could completely change their relevance. Like crystallize is still a dogshit reaction as Xilonen making a crystallize is basically an afterthought. Like if she were anemo she wouldn’t be any better or worse. So crystallize isn’t actually relevant. I think you could workshop this more when you have downtime and be able to get a more substantial inference through tier list format but in the mean time you made a fun 21 min video.

I get the point Jello is making that reactions are hard to judge in a vacuum, but I think the tier list is only useful if you do that. If you assess it based on teams, then it just becomes a what unit and teams are good list just like the character tier list he just made. Superconduct for example is a very good reaction for what it wants to do, which is buff physical. Just because there are no good physical teams right now does not mean the reaction itself is not good at what it is trying to do.

I have kinich only who is other than Pyro but damn he is also pyro based scaller so yes pyro slimes are my eternal enemies

While I get that aggravate has no proper support right now, I have issues with calling it "inherently flawed". It makes perfect logical sense, there are units who attack fast but for less, they will benefit more from a flat increase instead of a multiplier. There is no inherent flaw.

Really hope we get "aggravate chevreuse" in the future.

You say it's not easy to make an upgrade for the reaction, but they could just make a unit that shares EM, or adds it's own stat to other teammate'e aggravate damage, and/or gives attack speed, or reduces ICD of electro units.

Yeah they can't really improve the Fischl and Clorinde slot. But Nahida/Baizhu/Kirara slot could be a lot better.

Burning is just an enabler for Kinich and Emilie but they don't really do something about the Burning Reaction in itself. Burning Reaction should be at the lowest tier unless Hoyo decided to do something about it.

I honestly enjoyed more watching you torment yourself with this then the tierlist itself....
Perhaps more flat approach would work, where you only accounted for what the reaction is capable of and what it does, rather then characters that use it?
After all the characters are an exception not the rule, when it comes to the reactions they produce.
Nilou and Chev are the best examples. You can't say overload is amazing because chev exists- she is the exception not the rule. Not every pyro character can do what she does with overload.
Same for Nilou, you can't say that her bloom is the same as normal bloom, because they function so vastly differently from a normal bloom- enemies can't detonate them, which makes it a much better reaction than a normal bloom...

I could go on, but you get the point. I hope you revisit this and play around with the idea a bit more.
Or it's just me hoping to see you struggling to please everyone and everything.

I think, you should have made the tier list considering the reaction only, without considering the characters that use it (and maybe another tier list considering the characters).
For example :
- Burning : Emilie and Kinich "need burning" but the burning just need to "exists", the effect and power is irrelevant, so I don't think they should "affect" the way we evaluate Burning. The reaction itself is "Apply Pyro repeatedly with damage over time". If we consider only that, then, the reaction is mid, as the DoT is relatively low, but the pyro application is usefull (helps with melt, vaporise etc)
- Vape and Melt are the same, they have the same value, but just depend on different element (Hydro => Pyro is the same as Pyro => Cryo). The effect per se works the same way.

But as you say in your comments, it's hard to consider the reaction without the characters to enable it. Your example on vape and melt is very good because, reverse vape is better than Melt BECAUSE there's far more good off-field hydro applicator than cryo/pryo.

PEOPLE WHO JUST STARTED PLAYING GENSHIN RECENTLY DON'T TAKE THIS DISASTER OF TIER LIST SERIOUSLY. Burning and crystalize are not good reactions. IN FACT THEY'RE SOME OF THE WORST. Anything with dendro except burning is better than most reactions only overshadowing by melt and vape in terms of big numbers at a time, but not necessarily worse in terms consistent dmg. SO PLEASE JUST WATCH THIS AS FORM OF ENTERTAINMENT. AND IGNORE THE STUPID ARGUMENTS

I do think dendro is the worst element overall because they don't scale well with characters of other elements being good. Even Geo gets better if u get a Nice sub dps of some element but dendro output depends on the reactions itselves and it's what was good on the past and what is holding the element back right now and thats why hoyo is forcing characters to do an specific reaction to be good because if they not, no one Will be doing it

I dont think you should go with how the reaction affects teams. I think you should look at it from a point of "is this reaction good even in those teams and would an another reaction be better/more useful to make these teams work?" Of course, the characters are made to revolve around a specific reaction (like burning) and we cant change that, but I wouldnt bring characters into this. I WOULD bring artifacts and other stuff already inside the game which are accessible for everyone in the community (besides low ar players) unlike characters that have limited banners.

I think what you could have done is make a tri-column tier list. One column would be to evaluate and rank the elemental reactions on paper, no association with characters, just plainly based off of what the elemental reactions do and how effective they are currently. Another column would be to evaluate and rank elemental reactions in practice, considering characters and even artifact sets, as a few elements do have an identity tied to an artifact set or two. Then the last column would be to rank the elements based on the ranking positions of the elements based on their associated reactions in the previous two columns.

You could also assign a score for each reaction (on paper and in practice) and the elements would be ranked based on the scoring of their elemental reactions on paper and in practice. If tier 0 would be the best elemental reaction, then it would be scored a 0. That means the element with the lowest score would be the best element, top of the tierlist.

Give this a like so Jello can see and could come back to the video topic to have a clearer approach on ranking the elemental reactions and the elements.

okay LOOK. You can never judge reactions in a vacuum. What you THINK is a vacuum also depends on characters, kits, artifacts, etc, you're just used to having certain things since the beginning. why was vape meta for so long? because xingqiu could enable it. if we had a melt enabler from the beginning just because, everyone would think vape is mid and melt was always good. And if xingqiu had huge ICD and didn't apply much hydro, nobody would have thought vape was good. Why is anemo so good? because of VV. are we supposed to judge SWIRL without VV? no of course not, but you're just used to VV since that was in 1.0. But that's just special pleading for old stuff. So IMO the way I did it is the only way that's useful or makes sense. But that's just my own onion, you're entitled to your own :)

additional examples: Freeze was only ever great because of blizzard strayer, aggravate was only good because of fischl, etc etc
