It's amazing to see games with yet another layer of preservation.
ОтветитьAwesome video! and my greatest respect for you mentioning the dev names.
I'm also a small contributor on another decompilation project like this. Maybe in the future, we can share what we've accomplished to the Steamdeck community too!
I love these kind of videos similar to MVG's. Please keep making them this is amazing!
ОтветитьIs the grip accessory pictured in your thumbnail available? I’ve been looking for something like that.
ОтветитьThis was/is just such a great game. <3
ОтветитьAwesome video! This is by far the best explanation of GOAL and the project - thanks for covering it!
ОтветитьGreat video, probably the most technically accurate and informative one since the project has blown up in popularity as well! Hopefully it won't be 2 years until we can play Jak 2 :)
ОтветитьBro trust me
ОтветитьI hope this PC port get port to PS Vita like super mario 64
ОтветитьThis content is awsome! More of those "history" lessons plz. It will also give you another way for your channel once the deck flare wears out. You explainned so well that i understood everything. And i am a hello world error level of programming (none).
ОтветитьI paid for my deck this morning. I'm looking forward to having a hand held with a bit of power.
ОтветитьCould you please do a similar video tutorial for Mario 64? Pulling my hair out trying to get it to work. Nothing is working for me.
ОтветитьI'd love to do some decompiling for old Nintendo games like Twilight Princess. It's really cool to learn a little bit more about what that process is like!
ОтветитьDoes the music work?
ОтветитьThe HD textures look great, did someone make them using an AI upscaler? Would explain how they got it out so quick. Be amazing to see that in Jak 2 and 3 too.
ОтветитьHoly shit how did I miss this? One of my favourite Jump & Run games of all time. Amazing work from the people involved! And thank you for making me aware too! You earned a sub just for this alone :)
ОтветитьGreat video. One small correction m1 is arm based
ОтветитьFor anyone trying to install this now, or just updating their install to the latest version you have to add the following to launch options to get this to work with the newer versions: LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" %command%
ОтветитьI've had issues with the more recent versions. I had to revert back to v0.1.13. Had extractor permissions denied on 0.1.21 for some reason..and 15+ I had issues getting it to launch.
ОтветитьI think about this thing every day and night! It's a phenomenon I want to see more often!
ОтветитьApple's M1 is ARM. ARM64 specifically, although today 32 bit ARM devices are getting rare so that specification isn't super important.
The M1 chips are wiping the floor with other ARM chips and even powerful x86-64. Microsoft also has it's own ARM architecture but it's really weak and i hope they develop a powerful ARM chip with Qualcomm to answer Apple's threat. I mean they have the SQ1 but it's not even close.
amazing shit
ОтветитьThis is great news cuz ive been playing jak 3 on my steam deck through pcsx2
ОтветитьExcellent video! As a programmer and gamedev enthusiast I've always been fascinated by GOAL, even trying my hand at decompiling the game myself to make it playable on PC but other fine folks beat me to it :P Jak & Daxter was a big part of my childhood so I'll definitely keep an eye on the project, perhaps contributing a bit when I have time
Ответить🙂 𝐩𝓻Ỗ𝓂Ø𝓈M
ОтветитьThat gameplay is painful to watch, lmao
ОтветитьThis is awesome, because I feel like Jak doesn't get enough love nowadays. Not new to decomps
But this one is definitely special, I mean. Reverse engineering, documenting and creating a FOSS
version of a bespoke programming language only used by one studio? That's some serious work.
And I do hope you cover more projects like this, bet it's a nice change of pace for yourself too
I've always preferred Naughty Dog's pre-PS3 work. Uncharted and Last of Us were ok games, but they just didn't have that same charm.
ОтветитьI actually happen to have a black label copy of Jak and Daxter. It's my favorite platformer ever. I'll definitely play this amazing looking port. The team doing this work is amazing. Thanks for shining a spotlight on them!
ОтветитьThe thumbnail shows a PlayStation button layout on the Steam Deck. 🤷♂️
Ответитьpeople are fed up not having ports for classic games on pc so they do it themselves also something something modern gaming is a mess.
Ответитьso.. think they are gonna add a checklist .txt file with the trophy names just to say they have trophies to just outdo the ps3 version.
ОтветитьAnother company that made their own language and developed games in it was Infocom. They made text adventure games in ZIL - Zork Implementation Language. It was also a form of Lisp. It has also been reverse-engineered. Two times actually. The virtual machine was remade in the 90's and the language itself in the last ten years. Someone leaked the source code for the entire catalog of games, which helped with reverse engineering. More recently, Inkle Studios made their own language to make "Heaven's Vault" and "Overboard". They open-sourced the language.
ОтветитьI just loven the OpenGOAL project.
I bought the Game 2 times, but never got warm with it. It was just a, yeah it is a nice Game, but I am not really interested in it.
Then OpenGOAL came and I saw there is a Randomizer for it.
This made me do a entire playtrough liking the Game start playing Randomizer and now, I played it nearly everyday. I just fall in love with the Game.
I clocked that games on pc yesterday best experience
ОтветитьHonestly I rank the Jak franchise (or rather the main trilogy) very high up, honestly better than Crash Bandicoot in my opinion. My interest in the trilogy second with the second game although as a kid I could never beat it, eventually I went back to it and became interested in the third game, then a few years later I finally played the first game via emulation on PCSX2. I enjoyed all three although preferred the second and third games. Definitely do love TPL and plan on replaying it soon, just because it's fun. But yeah
ОтветитьThank you for the great video!! I finally manage to make this work properly on my Deck! Another thing, when they eventually release jak 2 and 3 how do I launch the games and add them to steam?
ОтветитьIts the only naughty dog game I played and will play.
ОтветитьMonths later and goal did amazing work with the original game, & now with further progress: the reality of seeing Haven City properly on PC, in its full glory, is surreal to me.
One can only imagine if/when the Sly games get the same treatment, especially the 2nd & 3rd ones.
this is the dream
ОтветитьUsing PCSX2 on steam deck, I was able to get Jack and Daxter to run fairly stable at 60fps on 6x resolution (4k)
Since this isn't being emulated do you think it'd be possible to get the resolution up to 5k?
FYI: Jak II is in a beta phase, and runs great on the deck. The team even has a decky plugin to make installing easier.
ОтветитьJak 2 has finally released are you going to talk about it?
ОтветитьI am so glad i can play these games at 1600p on the Lenovo legion go
Ответить🔥Just finished Jak 2 with the PC Port
ОтветитьI really hope something like this happens with other titles. pcsx2 emulation sucks for a vast majority of games, even more so if you wanna tweak the graphic settings.
As of making this post Jax 3 is currently being decompiled. jak 1 and 2 are good to go.
Apparently the 3rd game is almost done, hopefully you can please do an updated video on how to install them 🙏. Appreciate the steam deck tutorial
ОтветитьMost of the features you mentioned about GOAL is basically what every single Lisp dialect has.
It's a shame that not many people explore Lisp/Scheme to build a game.
You should pin a comment and/or edit the description to say that some of the information is outdated, like the installation instructions. There is now an official launcher for OpenGOAL which is much easier to use and change around everything! Also Jak 1 is 100% complete and Jak 2 is (hopefully) becoming completable this year.
