I just completed MGS3 a few hours ago for the first time. Really good game ❤️👏👏👏 I've only ever played MGS1 besides 3

It's a lot like Crysis, where Prophet disintegrates the remnants of the deceased Raptor team members, by vaporizing them so the enemy can't get a hold their nanosuits.

Then why the sorrow and the joy exploded ?

So, I guess The Sorrow didn't have a microbomb on himself when he was killed. After all, his skeletal remains can be found in the very river that Big Boss used to escape Ocelot and his unit.

Also, I don't fully remember, but I don't think The Boss' body exploded when she died. Instead, the scar on her chest turned into a snake and slithered away.

I always wondered why the fuck they go boom.

All of their deaths come back full circle to what big boss ends up fighting for and becomes a villain for. The boss herself only believed in a future where soldiers lived free but never fought for it, she was happy to die for her mission in the end. The cobra unit never would have lived a normal life, only able to die on the battlefield. Big boss then decided to spend his life fighting for a place where soilders can live free by their own rules after being used by a government. Then the "hero" solid snake comes alone and stops him. In solids defense it was big boss himself who underestimated snake thinking he would never stop outer heaven or zanzebarland. And Big boss went about finding that future by stealing nuclear weapons and killing/kidnapping relatively innocent people but thats besides the point.

Imagine finishing off The Boss with that last emotional shot, and in the middle of Snake mourning she just explodes out of nowhere

They all knew this was the last hurrah. They were stacked up against a man who was trained by the very best – their very own. Just like how The Boss knew she would die by Snake's hand, they too knew the same. The best they all could've done was subject Snake to the same feelings they internalized themselves, and make him overcome it.

The Pain inflicted as much, and Snake overcame it

The Fear made Snake feel it, and he was then made fearless

The End shown Snake how easy and painless it was to die, so he became less reckless

The Fury made Snake aggressive and calculated despite being met with an erratic enemy

The Sorrow reminded Snake of the weight of the lives he's ended, ensuring that he moves and kills with purpose

All of this culminating in fighting The Boss (The Joy), where he employed everything he learned in order to kill her. And, like the others, this planted the seed of Outer Heaven in Snakes mind – the place where a soldier is the respected hero once again, where all soldiers can enjoy battle once more

This entire game explains the very core of his character, as imprinted on him through his hardships

Also in MGS V its explaned that the philosophers were the ones that discovered the parasites in the wild and by used them as a weapon, with this they created the cobra unit, the remains of The End were examinated by Code Talker who extract this parasites and he created the Skulls to Skull Face

I like how this is a callback to all the Bosses in MG1 and MG2 exploding upon their deaths as well, my headcanon is that Big Boss had His elite mercenaries carry microbombs as well to prevent them from being captured/revealing information about Outer Heaven/Zanzibarland
