To use desalinated water you would have to run the reverse osmosis concentrate trough a brine concentrator to convert it into salt. It's probably cheaper to use salt drying beds.

Enjoy the channel, but please stop calling ChatGPT answers “predictions”. They’re not and it undermines your credibility to say that they are. It’s just creating plausible text based on its models. Every other battery tech has gotten cheaper over time, so of course it says sodium batteries will too. That’s probably right, but not because ChatGPT knows something you don’t.

Sounds like time to make an American battery company with a similar plan.

Small systems that can be user installed would be nice. Even with solar panels for 12 years we still had the grid go down for 2 hours one night here in SE Qld. A small system to keep our 240VAC LED lights on and run the fridge for 1/2 a day would be nice.

10 kWh home storage battery is way too little. It is somewhow antisocial to supply fluctuating energy to the grid from your solar panels.

Sodium should be so much cheaper than Lithium but is the price of Na or Li really a significant part of the price of a battery. How much is it actually.

Sodium ion's voltage range doesnt suit any current inverter tech yet, not really suitable for home storage yet..
Grid ,: yes
Car : yes
Home no

Sam, another great video. I've pondered for a long time on why the cost per kwh for home batteries is so much higher than car batteries given the latter need to be impact resistant, weather resistant and lighter. Then i watched your video on the profit made on each Tesla megapacks and realised it's simple lack of competition. Whilst the car manufacturers are fighting for survival making cheaper and better EVs, home batteries solutions are lagging behind. If the home battery price could drop from $12k per 10kwh (tesla pw3) to $1k per 10 kwh or $100 per kwh which is still close to twice the cost of car batteries so many homes could be 100% energy independent.

This new home battery solution could be the start of a home battery war which will be great for consumers and the planet.

So yet again the Australian government has managed to kill Australian technology by refusing to support it .
When Red energy is sold to a foreign company then every Australian government will be crawling over each other to buy them so we can export as much Australian money as possible .
Carbon copy of MemTech
One would have thought that after 3 major grid battery fires during construction the few extra dollars for a Flow Cell Battery would have been a sound investment .
But hey it is Australian so it must be garbage unless a foreign government buys it .
This only goes to show how ignorant & stupid the clowns that people elect to government are .
Yet they carry on day after day how vital it is for students to go into STEM and then torpedo every business that attempts to grow from local technology .

The Na battery start up will no doubt suffer the same fate with every Australian government from Canberra to local councils doing everything they can do to ensure that every local venture fails while they continue to bend over backwards to give foreign companies free access to Australia resources ( no royalties or taxes ) on the pretext that they are "creating jobs" for Australians .
This is a tragedy and of course kills off research into energy storage in Australia because bright minds see the bill boards that say "NO FUTURE FOR YOU IN AUSTRALIA MATE "

This is awesome news. I have a battery ready solar system and have had for the last 3 years (before that i had an old school grid tied system). However the cost of batteries has put me off. I knew that eventually the price of batteries would come down and i was particularly keen on the idea of sodium batteries for the lower cost price. So if they come to market, id be pretty keen to check out their offering, especially if they had modular batteries, whereby i started with perhaps 2 kw Modules and then added extra modules over time as needed or when budgets allowed.

Well, that is fine if you live on a place where the sun actually shines a lot. I just spoke with a customer of mine who installed a CN $ 25,000.00 solar project on his roof here in Alberta, Canada. For now about 8 weeks he practically had no input whatsoever and no battery lasts that long. Why? Well, there is winter and it snows. At most places, unfortunately, the whole thing makes only sense for the individuum, if the government subsidizes it, which means taking money away from others to support you.

Off grid, almost 100% now for over 12 years in Hawai'i, it was lead acid to start. It worked but with huge and heavy downsides. Then I switched 3 years ago to LiFePo. With still no appreciable decline in storage and the ability to dip into it a bit more when needed, it's been a great big improvement. Looks like they might last forever but I appreciate your update on Na. Maybe my next upgrade. I love living off-grid... 🤩

Biggest issues I see for domestic adoption:
1. Cost, upfront cost
2. Inverter compatibility, any useful broad-use battery solution needs to be compatible with a number of inverter types, at least industry-leading inverter manufacturers...
3. Ideally, stackable capacity. It's pretty easy to determine core "off-supply" ie. overnight electricity consumption. This will vary from home to home, and potentially over time as a household's needs grow & change.
