You should try WATG's Billie Jean line! All cutting remnants from factory floors in jeans factories. They spin the remnants into yarn!

I love Wool and the Gang (think they are UK owned). I've made two chunky moss stitch scarves (one was a very quick knit prezzie for my sister). They have good sales too. Have fun with that project!
