The account of the guards at 26 minutes after waking up the snoring Argentinian soldiers is astounding. Brings out the worst and the best out of people as they say.

Great interview. I must admit being young and dumb and full of cum I joined the army after I watched Tumbledown in 1988, I did four years as a medic, served in Iraq in 1991 and had an ambiguous experience, nevertheless Captain Lawrence was someone I looked up to even though I never knew him. Great podcast. I liked and subscribed.

Please forgive already commented, however, Thatcher set out her stall and she demanded a victory parade and she was attacked at every side for the glorification of War. Particularly the Belgrano. The Political climate was really harsh. The Unions who worked tirelessly to get the ships ready for sea. Maggie was taking on the Unions and dismantling them. Once our blessed boys were going then my husband said when Politics fail then the population has to get behind the men who will di the fighting. A do hope that The Falklands does not become our forgotten War like Korea

Just an American researching the topic of the Falklands and unaware of this man's name until today, but precisely how in the hell is it even physically possible to be shot in the head, lose nearly half one's brain, and somehow come out the other end with an intellect easily rivaling my own WHILE apparently half in the bag on stout??! Good lord, he must have been Stephen fucking Hawking on speed before the bullet hit!

A soldiers officer.....
Would have had, and still has, the respect of those he led.

We (1 Cheshire) took over the Scots Guards, Hong Kong, 1984, 1st Bn.
We also changed guard with the Scots Guards, Buckingham Palace, 1986.
I was one of the first to change guard at one of the sentry boxes. I remember very well at the changeover shouldering up to the Guardsman and bouncing off him 🤣, he was a tall bloke, good job I was in a good mood that day.

Spot on concerning the treatment of veterans, all we get now are false promises spoken in order to temporarily appease, then the false promises evaporate into the sands of time.

Excellent interview. Still I have to mention there is ignorance about Argentina, the Argentine claim, etc. Also, the Dirty War in Argentina carried out by the military wasn't that different from the British campaign in Northern Ireland. Regarding the kelpers...the claim is not about sovereignty so if they want to be British that is not different from the 100.000 Argentine British who lived in Argentina in 1982. God bless all veterans and the dead on both sides. At the end is just one side

I ask you, if you already stuck your bayonet 3 times, the soldier is out of combat, and you keep nailing it, isn't that an execution? You will not meet the Geneva Convention?

War is bloody awful, however these guys did the job they were trained and paid to do with incredible professionalism.
And the point that needs to be remembered is that Junta running Argentina was basically a Fascist government.
Every man women on that Island would have “disappeared “ as so many Argentinian’s did at the time.
The lads didn’t just stop this happening but in the longer term it brought this dictatorship to an end.
But the price they paid as individuals is one that only they can decide if it was worth it?

Notice the difference between a Brit and a Yank when recollecting events they went through in war? A brit will tell you exactly what happened from their perspective. And then you have the likes of Marcus Luttrell, (Navy Seal, Op Red Wings) completely exaggerating the story just to save face. And I'm sure if Robert sees this, he will laugh. I was arguing with a Yank yesterday who claimed that if it weren't for the Americans, we would have lost the war? They try and take the credit for a war they never even took part in. I'll bet they even wear South Atlantic Medals on their uniforms, we all know what they're like.

Everything Robert has been through, I keep wondering how the hell he wasn't another suicide statistic and many of the Falklands Veterans were. I had a friend that served in the same regiment as myself (Welsh Guards) who was a Falklands Veteran and he cut his own throat at a war memorial years after the war. I am in awe of the men who served down there, and that war was my own inspiration to join up. What courageous brilliant men we have. RIP to all that never came home.

there are boys who want it , doing the hard yards , just to get there, it;s a hill to climb. I'm told possible conscription, we only have 700000 18 yr olds, so half that (no offence to our sisters) as a dad , scares me. I would rather me than them
