My top 5:
Chinatown
Vertigo
Goodfellas
Apoctolypto
Five Easy Pieces
If I were to hazard a guess, I’d say Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai would also have been very high on Roger Ebert’s list of greatest films.
ОтветитьOne night flipping channels I stumbled upon Film maker/Director Errol Morris' "Gates of Heaven". I was captivated by the subject and the odd, eccentric and very real people in the documentary. That made me watch several of his documentary's each great in their own way. If you love documentary's you need to see his work.
ОтветитьTHESE WERE MOSTLY ARTSIE FARTSIE MOVIES ... FELLLINI IS ARTSY FARTSY ... NO GODFATHER ?
THEY NAMED CASABLANCA AND 2001 AND THEN WENT ARTSIR FARTSIE ... A MOVIE SHOULD ENTERTAIN YOU , NOT HAVE YOU LOOKING FOR ENCYCLOPEDIAS TO FIND OUT WHAT IT MEANS ... THOSE ARE 8 MOVIES THAT IF THEY WERE PLAYING IN MY BACKYARD i WOULD PULL THE DRAPES ... WHAT A BUNCH OF KRAPP

1. The Best Years of Our Lives
What I have always admired about Roger Ebert was, regardless of whether he liked the film, he was honest about its qualities. He could admire the work, even if it wasn't to his taste. He understood film making and what makes a well structured. He was objective before subjective. The best.
ОтветитьI miss Ebert's reviews soooooo much :(
ОтветитьDocumentaries are their own category and shouldn't be on here.
ОтветитьI have three films in my top ten.
ОтветитьMr. Ebert THANK U FOR ALL YOUR THUMBS UP OR DOWN ON YOUR REVIEW OF A MOVIE. IT MATTERED TO ME📽️ 🎥 🎞️ 🎬 🎭 🎫 🎟️ 😘 🇺🇸
ОтветитьSo Orson is Roger's favorite actor?
ОтветитьCassa Blanka???
ОтветитьI miss Robert's critique of film. Read his comprehensive books, watched the tv show with Gene and I do still go to IMDB to look up film and connect thru to Ebert's site for information. I admit I'm no genius when it comes to some aspects of film, but I learn, and I enjoy professional film critic reviews. I do wish more would speak on the ACTING part of movies more. some never mention that part much. Robert was gone too soon and I appreciate him more and more. TY for this video ! I give it a thumbs up !! 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
ОтветитьWhat a surprise his list is basically Oscar bait
ОтветитьI don’t think so
ОтветитьIt's pronounced Keir Dullea (doo-lay)
Ответить2001 wasn't an adaptation of the 2001 Clarke novel. The novel was developed concurrently with Stanley Kubrick's film version and published after the release of the film.
The movie is based in part on various short stories by Clarke, including "The Sentinel" (written in 1948 for a BBC competition, but first published in 1951 under the title "Sentinel of Eternity").
Not that anyone asked, but here's my top 10:
The Exorcist
Brazil
Clockwork Orange
Tommy
Night of the Living Dead
The Devils
Carrie
The Holdovers
Quadrophenia
The Bride of Frankenstein
What's yours?
Casablanca - of courses. 2001 - naaah. Raging Bull - too much of a downer.
ОтветитьI don't know what's wrong with me, but when I watched Citizen Cane I was bored to agony. Everyone says it's the best thing ever, I felt it was possibly the worst movie-watching experience I ever had.
ОтветитьMy Top 10:
10. The Shining / The Matrix (tie)
9. Mary Poppins
8. Back to the Future
7. Pulp Fiction
6. Charlie and the Chocolate Factor
5. Clockwork Orange
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark
3. Blade Runner
2. 2001
1. Original Star Wars Trilogy
Ebert took Oprah out for a date, years ago.
ОтветитьLots of mispronunciation here. Dullea, Dolce, Cabiria, several others. Read the script before turning the mic on, and look up the pronunciation of words you’re uncertain about.
ОтветитьPlease don't spoil movie stories for those who haven't seen it.
Ответитьthey dont make movies like they once did
ОтветитьI loved Siskel and Ebert. I miss them.
ОтветитьKeira Dullea pronounced du-LAY, not du-LEE-uh.
ОтветитьKeir Do-Lay
ОтветитьThe real Top Ten: On Golden Pond; Caddyshack; Fast Times at Ridgemont High; The Breakfast Club; Animal House; Star Wars; The Shawshank Redemption; Who's Afraid of Virginia Wolf?; Kramer vs. Kramer; and Oppenheimer.
ОтветитьBetween Roger Ebert and Gene Siskel, I usually found myself in agreement with Roger on his movie reviews. I miss him.
ОтветитьShawshank redemption should've squeezed into his list!
ОтветитьNever heard of any of these.
Ответитьthe third man is really trash and has the most inappropriate theme tune splattered all through it for that extra level of annoyance.
ОтветитьWhat would be on my top 10 list? I'm not sure. Obviously I have not seen all the movies that Ebert had seen. So I have a much more limited number of films to select from. But my number one all time favorite movie is "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". The only movie I have a movie poster of hanging up on the wall. Other favs, in no particular order, are: "Patton"; "Oliver!"; "To Sir With Love"; "In The Still Of The Night"; "Shenandoah"; ....... cant think now, tired. Oh right "Godfather 1 & 2". "The Sound Of Music"; "West Side Story"; "Yesterday":
ОтветитьEh!!??? Some wouldnt be on any list of mine at all.
ОтветитьAnd yet no Satyajit Ray films, in my humble opinion the greatest of all directors.
Ответить10 of my Favorites some known some obscure
Godfather
Casablanca
GodFather II
Goldfinger
Rocky
GoodFellas
North by Northwest
Stealing Home
The Seven Ups
To Catch a Thief
Not many World Cinema films on the list. That is Cinema made outside the United States. So one has to question the validity of the list
ОтветитьCasablanca was mid as f. Fell asleep on citizen Kane.
ОтветитьHere is my 10 favorite movies of alltime
10. Lincoln (2012)
9. The Wizard Of Oz (1939)
8. Rocky (1976)
7. Planet Of The Apes (1968)
6. Raiders Of The Lost Ark (1981)
5. The Shining (1980)
4. The Searchers (1956)
3. The Good The Bad And The Ugly (1966)
2. Casablanca (1942)
1. JAWS (1975)
This list is completely wrong.
Hoop Dreams is Ebert’s favorite film of all time.
Roger and Gene had the integrity and conscientiousness to do entire programs about social issues as the movie industry was involved in them. One show warned about a disturbing trend of some movie makers glorifying predatory behavior.
Their outspokenness about this helped move society past complacency and showed the industry that it does have societal obligations.
You made it through 99% of the video without using the cliche "iconic". Better luck next time.
ОтветитьWerner Herzog Eats A Shoe..... Ho Lee Chit, I need to see this.
Ответитьlol you would have to have the return of the king here its way better than most these films hands down
ОтветитьYuck. His list and mine have nothing in common at all.
Ответить🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 "Warner Herzog Eats His Shoe" I just HAVE to look for that!!
Notorious is an excellent movie.
So pretentious......wouldn't dare like a move like Jurassic Park or something right?
ОтветитьShocking number of mispronounced words throughout this video.
The world has too many literate people not to employ them where it counts.
