After watching this video, i realized A r rahman never sticked to one genre, and with every album, he sounded so different. So much versatility. Hatsoff

How these songs and movies are not etched in golden words and photographs in the history of Indian cinema is beyond me. We give more important to crap films more than these gems nowadays

Javed Akhtar's description of over the top performances or creations reminded me of Ranveer Singh's performance in Padmaavat. Such loud performances get more attention nowadays for no reasons compared to acting masterclasses in the past few decades.

Insecure people tend to overdo a work. Those who are confident of their talent can do it with minimalist touch. Rahman is confident of his talent so he composed Ishwar Allah from 1947 Earth with minimum orchestration, though he could have easily made it grand.

To me the Mehta trilogy is a musical benchmark in each iteration. While the score lifted Fire even without songs per se, the other two movies have a marvellous soundtrack, with deeply-felt reflections of the time and emotion.

Each song in 1947 Earth is uniquely pathbreaking, with the right punch of pathos, anguish, innocent love or the pain of aggressive wounds of war and partition.

Ruth aagayi re still gives me goose flesh. I always get the feeling the unrelenting tempo (dholak and strings) is akin to a taxiing aeroplane till Sukhwinder’s high notes take off into the heavens at the end of the song. Simply breathtaking…

Which Javed saab, genius in his own right, so eloquently explained with such simplistic brevity🙏🏼

Pretty hard for any contemporary (in the world) to emulate such musical and emotional versatility… in each album for 3+decades..

I think the tunes that A R Rahman composes for the film, the final composition, is perfect.
Why does Hariharan change the tunes while singing in concerts ?
If the songs are sung as perfectly composed by A R Rahman, it'll sound wonderful.

The best series of interviews with Javed Saab that I have ever seen. As an avid listener and lover of poetry, I’ve always had a lot of concurring questions that the gentleman herein has asked. Thank you for not repeating those clichèd Sholay/Zanjeer questions.
His lyrics are a thesis on their own.
Fantastic work. Godspeed. Cheers!

A R Rahman is recognised and credited for all aspects of music making..viz composition, arrangement , recording etc. But what singularly amazes me.always in his 30 odd years career is his VERSATILITY in universal genres!.
Nobody in the world can supercede him.

Earth 1947 was one of ARR's finest works (definitely in his Top 10 in my world). Each song is a gem. The two instrumentals Piano Theme and Theme Music are just as mind-blowing. Piano Theme has so much pain as if the instruments are crying. ARR was in a different world when composing this album. It was the old vintage ARR. Sadly that ARR is gone. A recent example was the Pippa album (good comparison as it had the same partition sort of theme) but the songs Mohabbatein Shukriya and Jazbaat did not even come 100 km close to what he did in Earth 1947 with Ishwar Allah, Raat Ki Daldal and Yeh Jo Zindagi Hai.
Earth 1947 was also a great work of Javed Akhtar. Such simplicity in the words. Especially Ishwar Allah was phenomenal. Great to know that its lyrics were written before the music was composed. It is new to me. Then Deemi Dheemi and Yeh Jo Zindagi had some excellent lyrics. It is interesting that Javed Akhtar did not remember Yeh Jo Zindagi Hai. Nonetheless, that does not make it a lesser song than any of the aforementioned ones. The arrangements, vocals, those drum beats, everything about it was amazing.
Wish ARR goes in his old mode and makes more albums like Earth 1947.

I am a Tamilian and i do not feel the K sara sara song in tamil Jill allava jill allava kadal nayagara was any less popular or better than the Tamil version. I have very good understanding of both the languages and thus i am able to say this, but there have been some songs of AR Rahman where in some cases the Hindi had done better than the Tamil one and vise versa is true also, for eg chaian chaian was way better lyrically than the Tamil version. All the songs in Roja were way better than the Hindi ones.

Javed saab is known to be of a very sharp and photographic memory (he's himself mentioned it in some interview in the past). While his greatness as a wordsmith is still unabated and undisputed, it's sad to see age getting the better of him now...he seems to be missing some lyrics of his own (which is a rarity)! Between him and Gulzar saab- we're blessed to have had them in Hindi film industry.
