ОтветитьHey! I looked in my usda canning book and it doesn't say that you can't use thighs as well. It looked like you just used breasts so I wanted to see if you have canned chicken thighs before? I keep boneless skinless in the freezer and am looking to get them shelf stable now since its cold out and its an easy way to heat the house lol. Thanks!
ОтветитьSo how long should this stay good? I did batch early 2020 but I opened one smells not off but not right and tastes little bit like metallic but that could be the chicken itself it was free range they normally taste gamey. Idk what do you suggest?

ОтветитьWell! I have not canned chicken yet. I just got my Instant Pot Max canner two weeks ago. Three weeks ago, I was certified legally blind. SO……I will can chicken, beef, and pork at least. I need EASY meals, and you have convinced me that ugly chicken will make that happen. In April I will be learning cooking skills at our local CenterFor The Blind. By May, I will be ready to rock! Thank you. I really, really need this.

I wish YT videos showed the upload date. If it was done in a previous year, I will get in my way-back time travel machine because I really, really want to be in on this!

ОтветитьI just put 5 qts in the canner. I packed them really tight ( I didn't have enough to do 6 qts. ) I did leave 1 inc head space so hoping I didn't over pack them and they all seal.

I was watching Mike Pratt's canning chicken with the bone in and he played a short video from you (Suttons Daze) about can you easily take the flesh off the bones after being processed. You made a statement that you can, can it (the chicken with the bone in) for less time than for clean chicken. I was wondering what amount of time that was. Thank you for your very informative videos as they work for us in Australia as well. I thought that was an excellent idea to feed ones dog with canned meat...Jo
ОтветитьI just bought thighs for 1.28 /lbs. canning today. Pork shoulder was 1.88/lbs. Higher than last year or even two months ago but I bought it anyway to can. Beef London broil is 3.48/lbs. Cheaper than hamburger.

ОтветитьMy first time canning was tonight. It was Ugly Chicken. As I was removing the pints from the canner one of them fell onto its side in the canning water. It took a minute to get the jar turned upright and out of the canner. It didn’t look like any canner water went into the toppled over hat…….all jars seemed to have sealed. Do you think it will be eatable? Thanks!

ОтветитьHello! I am not sure you will ever see this comment but I canned chicken in quarts. Breast and thigh. It didn't create enough liquid to fully cover the meat. The top exposed piece has turned dark grey in every jar. I am tempted to toss them all. Google says it's ok but not very pretty. Has this ever happened to you ???

ОтветитьYou have made me a believer. I am such a southern cook, believe in spices but I get it now. It’s what I know. But now I see that I need to start with the basics. I have 10.5 pounds from chicken in my freezer. It will all be ugly chicken. I’m learning! A bit late but I can always use these recipes with what I have.

ОтветитьI have a question I truly hope u can answer. I have canned boneless skinless chicken breast, skinless bone-in chicken breast each was AMAZING. YOU OPEN IT UP OH, IT SMELLS DELICIOUS AND TASTES DELICIOUS AS WELL! THAT BEING SAID: I have canned chicken legs and chicken skinless and bone-in. All of it is raw packed no water added done it by the rule. Have done it in quarts and pints. Some reason the dark meat like chicken thighs and legs turns out BAD! YOU OPEN IT UP AND THE SMELL WILL KNOCK YOU DOWN! I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY! IT HAS THIS WEIRD SMELL I CAN'T PUT MY FINGER ON IT IT KIND OF SMELLS LIKE METALLIC. It's not a slight smell it's EXTREMELY STRONG SMELL. Have you ever encountered this before? Do you happen to know what might be going on? Now the only chicken that I have in my pantry is chicken skinless breast, boneless and bone-in. My favorite part of chicken is dark meat and I don't know why this is happening 😭... I hope u can help me figure this out.

ОтветитьOh no! I'm canning for the first time, yes, newbie here and I just realized my first mistake. I warmed my water first. Does that make a huge difference? I watched your video once and did my canning and decided to watch it again and caught where you said you used cold water to start.
