When Sonic Boom Came to the 3DS

The only Boom game I've played is Fire & Ice. I picked up the demo back in college, and I remember I actually quite liked it as a demo, but I didn't feel like it would work as anything bigger than that.

Shattered Crystal is a guilty pleasure of mine. Yeah, it's teddious to collect everything and the writting is kinda stupid. But it was the first 3DS game I ever bought, so I have a bit of nostalgia for it

Another problem with Shattered Crystal's collectables is the tokens. Tokens would be used to unlock "trophies" in the game, but there were more trophies than there were tokens. There also a "mini-game" where Knuckles would give you 1 token a day. It also couldn't be cheesed by changing your 3DS time. So if you wanted to 100% Shattered Crystal, you would have had to open the game everyday and get that token, even after you got all the level's collectables.

I love how sonic DS games always have been much better than they're console counterpart

Rush and Rush adventure were awesome compared to unleashed and 06

Color and generation were just as good

And boom was much better on DS than on tv console

grinding collectibles to progress is the main reason I haven't finished Unleashed

I said it before and I’ll say it again. This was supposed to be a reboot of the franchise because Lost World underperformed and many journalists hated it so Sega responded by restarting everything

3ds boom games are ok. not terrible, but not worth beating either

Rayman origins is a great game but the 3ds version is gross.

I remember playing shattered crystal when I was younger cause I wanted a sonic game and my mom being cool got me this one
My stupid small kid brain couldn't get what I had to do in order to get knuckles and pass through the game

Kind of a shame what happened with the 3DS games of the boom series... or the series in general. The 3DS games were flawed, but not bad (shattered crystal wasn't good either though), and the cartoon series was surprisingly funny.

It's just that rise of lyric left this stigma that the boom series as a whole sucked.

Shattered crystal was the first Sonic boom game I played and I thought it was rise of lyric lmao😂 Anyways, I also played sonic boom fire and ice and although I dont remember much about either games, I do remember having fun with both of them, but I'm sure if I played them now I'd find less enjoyment going through them. Never ended up playing rise of lyric cuz I didn't have a Wii U but I did watch let's plays and found it pretty boring

I remember as a kid. It kept telling me knuckles stepped out so I would just keep checking everyday to see if he came back yet 😂

I just beat both of the first Boom games this week and maybe it’s the Wii U game being patched but idk man I had more fun with it than Jak 3 or the PSP Jak game.
And the 3DS game was more than fine, better than Zip Lash and Hey Pikmin. Similar games that somehow reviewed far better.

Kinda sad Boom didn't do well. I enjoyed the 3DS games and this series was the only time I liked Roger as Sonic.

Almost none of these games are worth your time as a player. They're irrelevant relics of the past with no staying power that burned and crashed before Boom even started. Excluding Fire and Ice, which had better mechanics and fixed a lot of the issues associated with Shattered Crystal and Rise of Lyric. The games were destined to bomb from the get-go, owng to their uninspired level design, poorly-orchestrated soundtracks and badly-written storylines, which shat on any potential that the Boom counterparts had. The fact that Sega didn't allow Big Red Button time to fix the bugs is bad enough. But the fact that two massively-successful titles came out preceding this makes it wose. Since they tarnished what little hope people had for the franchise at the time and showed their true colours as a scummy business who'd mistreat any workers if it meant shitting out a title before Christmas.

I'm so glad that Sega have left this brand in the dust. Excluding the Archie Adaptions and the Television Show. Boom was simply a fad that fizzled before it could fizz. Sticks is the best thing to come out of this atrocious era to be honest and I'm glad that Buff Knuckles has meme status. Though, I prefer Paramount Knuckles overall, since he's more accurate to the games and Idris Elba will always be the voice I hear whenever Knuckles appears. I'm sorry, but Travis Willngham can't hold a candle to him, imo. He's second best behind Idris though.

It is hard being a sonic fan but rather it be a good game or a bad one I'm still a fan! Sonic mania was awesome and I know once Sega Finally realizes that sonic is a character a lot of people are still invested in and rooting for they'll make a great game one that the fans will love!

I know the 3ds cutscenes have a lower resolution but I think they look better in terms of shadows and animation

While none of these games were actually that good, we did get one good Sonic Boom games.

I agree with you about everyone being sick of boom in 2015 and everyone being more sick of boom by 2016 especially since once mania and forces were announced everyone forgot about boom for obvious reasons and I personally would’ve much rather take a third story book game and another sonic rush game over freaking sonic boom

I hated Sonic Boom as kid for basically delaying the chances of a new 3d Sonic game like Generations or Unleashed to come out. To this day that still has not happened to the extend I would be happy with (frontiers was fine, just not what I was looking for).

Fire & Ice is by no means a great game, but its level design has noticeably improved. You said that it handles better but it actually handles the same aside from some special moves. It's the level design that makes its basic physics feel more real. There's more clever sequencing for its obstacles, some loops are actually real and not scripted events, and there actually different gimmicks to fit the themes of different areas. Maybe you just don't remember them well because the whole Boom franchise is overall a forgettable mess.

I really wish they put more effort into the sonic boom franchise as its one of my favourites, for the show alone I think it was pretty entertaining, but maybe lacked in some story or consistency with characters, still one of my favourite sonic shows. maybe I have rose tinted glasses but I think that rise of lyric was actually decent ?

So glad the boom games flopped badly. If sonic kept being the boom version. I would have gien up on him

not much to do with the video but i don't know why none of these games ever used the enemies from the tv show. it's not like there weren't enough for basic enemies and even boss fights.
