After spending 4 years with Minnmax, its so weird to go back and see baby faced Ben. Still, great content though! Cannot wait for Rebirth

Also somewhat intrigued by Ever Crisis as a big mashup recap of all the Compilation...

Its always hard for a modern audience to understand the importance of this game on the genre, as well as games in general. As someone who played FF from the original on NES, RPG's were something only spoke of amongst close friends. Nobody played them.
I remember the fundamental misunderstanding of Final Fantasy when it released, as many people new to the series expected FF8 would be a direct sequel. Two I know were angry and insistent I was wrong when I told them that wasn't how it worked. Then there were the ridiculous "you can bring Aerith back to life" rumors that persisted for years.

But most of all, this was the game that caused a shift from Nintendo to Sony in the gaming zeitgeist.

Just found this, been on a FFVII kick lately and appreciate this being done! Love it! Do another with this one through the lens of the remake now

Trine uses too much mp. You can kill majority of enemies with matra magic E skill.

The Explosion in Corel 4 Years before FF7 was from the Original Avalanche.
They show this in the Phone Phone Game "Before Crisis".

Wow it’s crazy you guys don’t get that up to the point where they find Sephiroth’s body that it’s Jenova the whole time. Sephiroth bends Jenova to his will and he turns her cells into an alternate body. So the first disc it’s Sephiroth acting thru Jenova

That tidbit about the German meaning of Nibelheim is wonky at best

The missing piece of the Midgar puzzle is due to Sector 5 being unfinished

Did I just watch 5 hours of FF7 discussion? Yes, and it was magnificent.

First time play through for me, followed along with the game club...excellent video guys.
My thoughts? I was blown away. It really is as great as everyone says. I only wish I’d played it sooner. Really looking forward to the remake!

Sephiroth didn't drag Jenova's body through Shinra HQ. The "Sephiroth" that Palmer saw kill President Shinra WAS Jenova. Sephiroth is never seen in the present storyline outside of the scene at the crater and in the final dungeon.

One of the best games ever. Felt that way when I was 10 years old still feel the same way almost 17 years later.

I can't wait for the remake.

Enjoy the chat but disagree with so many points, too many to mention. And my favourite tracks are Judgement Day, Jenova Absolute, and the Turks theme. My friend and I submerged with the sub and the entire screen was taken by Emerald, we both screamed ha !

You know what's funny? They all think the person they were chasing was Sephiroth.

Got to add I think the random encounters are part of the game. Being low on supplies and health in a dungeon and hoping you avoid certain enemies is all part of the challenge, isn't it? I know the game is easy but if it's your first time there are some dungeons that can be pretty punishing. Taking that away just makes the game even easier, removes any tension or challenge.

Obviously if you know the game really well or are using boosters it's not an issue, I appreciate that.

My understanding of the promised land is that Sephiroth was punch drunk on the idea of his Jenova heritage and obsessed with finding it. Shinra believed it was going to be full of mako so went after it without any thought. None of this confirms it's existence, in fact several characters make reference to the fact that it's existence is in question (such as Hojo). I don't think there is anything definitive in the game to say it is anything other than Cetra legend.

I beat this game for the first time a couple of years ago and was absolutely blown away. Nostalgia had nothing to do with it. This is an incredible experience and one of the greatest games ever made.

Also every time Reeves says "Sepiroth" I want to kill myself.

You don't meet Sephiroth until the North Crater. On all other occasions it's been Jenova. That's why you always fight Jenova segments after every time you encounter "Sephiroth".
I'm not sure, but it seems like they don't fully get that.
