My thoughts are if the newer mpc models don't even have that hard hitting great sound , then why give akai thousands of dollars , just get one of their
Midi controllers and call it a day .

I have been using Logic Pro and iPad Pro making entire albums every month, I could do more if I went crazy and got drunk making songs.

I assume that what you make are simply drafts, musical sketches, not complete songs with the best mix and sound, precisely in an 8-track audio DAW like the MPC, it is too limited to achieve better results than in Logic Pro X.

I have an iPad that I use to control Logic Pro Logic Pro.

Since Logic incorporates the garageband looper-arranger, I can only say that making complete songs in a single afternoon is really easy.

Then I can start doing something in GarageBand on the tablet and terminal in Logic Pro X.

Thanks to GarageBand, I can also use real-time finger drumming to record improvisations on Logic Pro audio tracks.

MPC One / Live2 only have the advantage that you use buttons to hit without fear, but only 4 knobs and a very small screen that is not ideal for your hands, Ipad Pro or even an Ipad Air are better for controlling parameters and automations of Logic Pro

And now I have the Logic Pro for Ipad Pro, an unbeatable beast for any MPC, although GarageBand also makes your Ipad a highly optimized music creation and performance workstation and machine.

Maybe because of that, I don't have an MPC, but I do have a Maschine+ (with Naitve Instruments software), there is nothing better than that, you have a modular like Reaktor, Sampler like Kontakt, Ab synth, MassiveX, they are not really softsynths low-end and sound really great from the machine that also works as a sound card and midi as a portable solution to handle Logic and Maschine software.

Maschine+ is a stand-alone controller and sampler for the same minimalist equipment, with the best price-quality for any demanding beat maker, it has 4GB of ram more than the 2GB of ram of an MPC One / live 2 and the best pads for finger drumming.

I am a long-time MPC Live mk1 user and I stopped using the machine due to ongoing software and hardware problems.

My distrust with Akai already came with the MPC 1000, which I also have collecting dust because its audio output is dead.

I did not trust MPC live again, its improved version does not impress me. With Maschine+ there are never any problems, it is really stable with my MacBookPro M1.

Thank you for this video, greetins!!

AudioPilz manages to review so much gear mainly by getting it loaned from his local retailer, or musician friends.

Tuning in since I bought my first MPC a year ago as a refugee from several DAWS. I'm primary a non-virtual musician, so muscle-memory matters to me. And I'm only computers all day with my job, so getting off a laptop matters a lot. Still.... wonder if MPC is my best fit.

Multi-channel sampling via a Class Compliant Interface on standalone, & the option to share files onto a Live, Live II, X, X SE, 61 Keys, &/or MPC 2.0 software version, really make this a bad piece of kit (lol not). In all honesty the only (slight) down side to the One, One+ is that there's no 2TB SATA SSD option, & the headphone socket uses minijack

Pilz explained on a podcast (I believe it was Simon Magpie’s) he gets most if not all the gear loaned to him via friends and a local synth shop Klangfather (I butchered that spelling 😂). He further explains that he does this as a full time gig on a week to week basis in an effort to display relevant and sometimes newly released pieces of gear. Honestly impressive considering the level of quality in his videos. Once in awhile he gets a piece of gear directly from the manufacturer. Roland has lent him new/unreleased gear to “review” within their embargo guidelines.

hard disagree on using mpcs/beatboxes for electronic music. it may be simpler in the daw but that isn't really recording. even if I'm going to chop it to shit in renoise I'd still rather it come through cables and through the board. plus most of the mpcs have great timing with external synths (I think that's why the demos had the synths.) which makes them great for triggering samples and layering them with hardware. plus they are just fun to use.

Why I sold my mpc one - well it couldn't do what my circuit tracks can do with midi. It doesn't have enough ram to effectively function as a standalone multiitrack, while it could work well with another standalone multitrack and still be "standalone", being broke I found that with $10 in add ons my phone could handle even more than the mpc one can do with koala sampler.

I think you’re partially missing what an MPC is… it’s less a DAW in a box as much as it’s a centralized brain that can replace multiple pieces of gear as well as control everything in your studio. How audio pils used it was ideal, utilizing inputs and If you know how to use it, it’s great for electronic music, but it’s meant to be played and recorded not nitpicked and tailored the way you would in a DAW. And there is a trade off… it is a little more finicky to polish, but you can come up with variations so much faster.
I switched from Logic to MPC for most of my creative process a few years ago and it’s been great because I’m making more music than I was before.

I bought the One in 2020. I did crazy research before making an informed purchase. It is not bad gear material. It is Dope Gear Criteria. I have the 2000 classic and FL 10. The One to me is like having both in one box. For a lower priced MPC it was a great evolutionary game changer from Lear Jet to NCC-1701. Even without the MPC X bells and whistles the MPC ONE is a Monster. The way one person uses an instrument is not the same for the next. 9th wonder , J Dilla, Premier and Large Professor would build cities and legions of armies with it. But again, it's not the gun but he who pulls the trigger that does the damage.

To answer your funding question weaver : they buy it, make the video, and then IMMEDIATELY cash out of it via resale, if possible by just straight up returning the gear to the retailer.

He gets the vintage stuff via loans, but you could easily buy an mpc and return it with a video in between.

I had an mpc live two, you can do all the sound design you want in it given the effects and synthesizers. I swapped out for an iPad though. Way more compatible Brie transferring to computer.

And as you said, bad gear is just a review channel, they almost never say stuff is “bad.”

Dude you said and I agree. MPCs are not super compatible with making electronic music. I mean you can make electronic music on it, but it's difficult to make electronic music with relative complexity.

Also, I guess since I'm only a year into Ableton I have no complaints haha. I used Logic and just migrated to Ableton and I absolutely love it. I've had no issues with the updates either 🤷🏻‍♂️

I make Industrial/Metal/Punk with my MPC Live gen 1 as the main sequencer for my studio. I mostly use the MPC itself for acoustic drum samples and electric bass samples when I’m too lazy to record my bass guitar, basically it’s a backing band and tells the rest of my gear what to do. I also use an Ensoniq ESQ-1, Emu Emax SE, and a Yamaha RX5 with RX5USB to use my own samples.

A lot of Electronic/Techno was sequenced with an MPC of some kind as well.

Before that I mostly used a Beat Step Pro and my ESQ-1s archaic sequencer. The MPC Live is much better.

I love my MPC one. I sample my modular into it and lose myself for hours. Buying the MPC tutor and working your way through its hundreds of pages takes 3 months but will teach you everything.Well worth it. With several DAWs I finished maybe two songs a year. Last year with the MPC I finished more than fifty. Much more fun than a DAW.
