Some one played me a Weather report Album around 1984. And as a bassist I said who is playing Bass ? Then I bought a video with some of his collaborations. Just got hooked and saw he had died. Bad end, so sorry. I loved the last comment on here. That was Jaco Pastorius

I love japans bass player but thus guy is truly exceptional

C'est triste mais je me rends compte que je n'ai aucune oreille musicale: je ne me rends absolument pas compte de la performance que c'est. Pour moi, ça sonne pauvre une basse seule, on dirait une guitare malade, un piètre solo, alors qu'en fait c'est l'un des plus gros bassistes de tous les temps (apparemment) :/

What a tremendous talent. His skill is undeniable. The bass does not lend itself to melody and harmony yet he excelled in these as well with remarkable skill.

I don't get it. The notes were in tune on a fretless. Okay, that's impressive given all of the notes played. But, otherwise, what else? It sounded like a drunk guy just plucking around on a really buzzy bass with no musical direction.
I still don't understand the massive love for this guy.
