How does this difference relate to the backbeat in a drum groove?
In 2/2, the backbeat would fall on 2, but could that be thought of as the 3 in 4/4? The backbeat in 4/4 is 2 and 4, but if you played in 2/2 but still called it 4/4, wouldn't it be on the 3?
👍👍
ОтветитьWhat this video highlights to me as I work backwards from what people on music theory channels are saying about different meters, and trying to understand the terminology, is that I now don't understand the notes referred to in the bottom of the pair of numbers. If you have a quarter note, it's a quarter of what? Using quarter notes in 3 4 makes no sense to me as a quarter of the measure (or bar?) would mean you're potentially using four notes, not three? Somebody help! (Or link me to some help.)
ОтветитьThank you.
Ответитьwhen elon musk is not all about rocket science but also music theory too.
ОтветитьYou just disappeared like a fart in thin wind
Where are you these days?
Why does this guy low key look like Elon musk?
ОтветитьI can learn from this channel thanks from the Philippines.

Just my OCD, great video! :)
First video that explains this well.
ОтветитьOne of the best explanations I have come across on Y.
ОтветитьThank you, very clearly explained and illustrated. Great job
ОтветитьWhat’s a “note” ? lol. jk, kinda.
🔴 🚨 🛑 🔥 OKAY LISTEN UP GOOD PEOPLE!! I’ve fumbled through a few of these “time signatures explained” videos and I’m too r37@rded (“musically challenged”) to understand this. Lemme tell y’all what I’m seeking, perhaps one of you gorgeous commenters or the creator of this video (from 7 years ago hehe) can give me some insight.
I’m just seeking to understand what my buddy was always raving about 15 years ago when we’d listen to Tool albums. “oHhHhH oDd TiMe SiGnAtuReS!! SoOo SiCk bRo!” He’d then proceed to count out loud and I either don’t recall how he did it or I never understood it in the first place. I’m curious to see/hear/or even read an explanation of time sigs in relation to any Tool song; dealers choice. Example: “Hey BKai, here’s an example of time sigs for a novice human like yourself: In the first verse of The Grudge, the drums are playing in a X/Y time signature” Or “in the bridge of the song, it’s an odd time signature of X/Y.” (Is it possible the drums are in a different time signature than the guitar or vox??)
Hell, i suppose it doesn’t even have to be a Tool song. Haaaalp pls
This helps tnx Man
ОтветитьNever thought I’d be learning time signatures from Michael j fox but here we are
ОтветитьIm watching it on 2021
ОтветитьHow long (in seconds) is a measure?
ОтветитьI'm still confuse. How can there be 2 quarter notes in a beat. I thought 1 quarter note by difinition, it is equivalent to the duration of one beat. Eight notes is two notes of equal duration that fits the duration of the entire beat. What am I missing?
ОтветитьHold on my brain just got a bug
ОтветитьI have watched so many videos on time signatures....and still don't get it. All I see is someone just counting faster or slower. Is there some prerequisite I need to understand first?
Ответить22 44 both have 2 half notes in a measure. What gives?
ОтветитьIt all made sense once u said a quarter equals two eights, same as weed math. Top number is amount of bags and the bottom is the weight per bag hahaha I love guitar !!!
Ответитьso what the fuck is the bottom 4 doing!? you're person number 1001 who explains this in the same way and failed to make it understandable. HOW can you have FIVE QUARTER notes!? It doesnt make sense. A QUARTER suggests there should be FOUR notes.
ОтветитьWhy 3/4 and not just 3/3?
ОтветитьGOAT! Thanks.
ОтветитьThank you! It's so much easier now to understand and keep learning. When I felt that I couldn't get the basics I panicked a bit. But now I don't feel anxious anymore. 😊🙌
ОтветитьYou kinda look like the Elon musk of music
ОтветитьHuhhhh
Ответить"You're not gonna be counting out loud when you play this." My piano teacher would beg to differ.
Ответитьomg, thank you so much. i’ve been playing music for 4 years and i’ve never understood what the bottom number meant. google never helped and this is the first video that actually breaks it down
Ответитьi’ve been looking into time signatures for like 3 weeks now and couldn’t really understand them and then BOOM watched this video and it just clicked, thanks homie 🙏🙏
Ответитьthank you!!!!
ОтветитьOk I'm giving up thanks for the vid tho
Ответитьyou look a bit like elon musk
ОтветитьWhen I learnt it was Semibreve, Minim, Crotchet, Quaver.
ОтветитьIs it just me or does he kinda look like Elon Musk?
ОтветитьI been so confused about time signatures. I'll get it one day!!
Thank you for this beautiful lesson
This is so helpful! Thank you so much!
Ответитьappreciation and much love from Ethiopia!
ОтветитьWooow. You are the best music teacher that I've ever had. The way you teach them in a simple and interesting way is awesome.
ОтветитьSo, does time signature not tell you how long a beat actually lasts?
ОтветитьFinally, I understood the time signatures! Thank you! Well explained and straight to the point.
