A live video demonstration of how to wrap and soak the strips would've been helpful?

Discard cake???? Why not freeze it until you have enough of those trimmings to make cake pops?

Anyone know how much longer you have to bake (on average for a home baker) if you're using these things? I'm sure it's going to take longer but was hoping for a ballpark for a 6" x 3" pan and an 8" x 3" pan...?

You can always make homemade strips by wetting paper towels, lightly wring out the excess water, folding them longways to get desired height, and then wrap them in aluminum foil.
