What an astonishing tumultuous genius Wagner is!

Ceaselessly inventive orchestral writing, always pushing harmonic and melodic and rhythmical barriers. Great novely in the use of instruments.

Super-sharp depth psychology, often more Freudian and Jungian that those pair are themselves. Shockingly candid scenarios regarding death, the erotic, the hunger for power, transcendental love, the ultimate purpose of humanity's existence. Out to mock and upset petit bourgeoise comfortable smugness. And in the relationship between Wotan and his favourite daughter, a statement of "in-your-face" Electra love that is both very outré and heart breaking - far more so than her love for Siegfried - and which demonstrates how much heterosexuality is inherently amalgamated with daughter-father romanticism and eroticism.

And at the end of Gotterdammerung, Wagner evinces a dazzling grasp upon the idea of the world consciousness into which we will all return when our temporary ego-perspectives are destroyed in the Flames of Transfiguration - the essence of Hinduism and Buddhism at the same time.

Pure brilliance.

Love andrea

Richard Wagner is my favourite composer and Lorin Maazel's arrangement and performance of this adaptation of this masterpiece is beyond words. The Berliner Philharmoniker has proven yet again what a world leading orchestra it is. Bravo.

Richard Wagner said, in the german music the soul lives. Now think about what you have destroyed. You wont find it elsewhere.

I had the great opportunity to see Maazel conduct Die Walkure at the Met, as well as Elektra with the New York Philharmonic. Of course, people should not get the idea that the entire Ring consists of these orchestral outbursts! This is one hour of music; the entire Ring is 17 hours, with a lot of tedious stretches.

There was a reason why the Nazis loved Wagner, and Nietzsche rightly criticized him; nevertheless, he could write a good tune.

Wagner, the master of the masters knew how to bring Schopenhauer's philosophy into music and make it visual - just absolutely sublime and magnificent. Of course, to deliver a superb performance, nothing like American conductor Lorin Maazel, one of the greatest conductors of the XX Century. He was to Wagner like conductor Valery Gergiev is to Prokofiev. So proud of my Western culture and civilization and this gift for all the world to enjoy.
