Correction: The Sony X800M2 DOES play Dolby Vision, but the user must switch between HDR formats manually.

Turn off the tone mapping from your TV and use only the HDR optimizer from the player. The panasonic dp-ub820 is far superior in HDR tone mapping than your LG oled.

I just ordered a Sony 85 Inch 4k Ultra HD X90K TV . I hope it pairs well with the UB820

I had the X800M2 Sony and I replace it for this one And I got it on special for 100 dlls less, at bestbuy I love Sony but that player is defective, I see a big difference whit this new Panasonic totally worth it

Please could you let me know if this player is capable to play 4K Ultra HD dvds and obtain the desired quality (if paired with a 4K UHD TV and HDMI of course)?

The 820B and its big brother, the UB9000 are probably the best pure disc spinners avaiable at $400 and $955 respectively. Their video circuitry and picture quality are identical. That said, if you intend to play a lot of MKV, MP4, BDMV or ISO videos on an external hard drive or over your network, these players may not be for you. They are limited in the kinds of video and audio encoring that they can play. As examples, they can't play lossless audio from MKVs or reconize embedded chapter marks in them. The also can't play lossy E-AC3 audio in video files. That format is a standard in streaming content. Even Atmos on the streamimg services is really E-AC3 expanded out to use all available speakers. I have a UB9000 and my still trusty Oppo-203. While the Panasonic edges out the Oppo in HDR10 video (Dobly Vision is about even), the Oppo can play almost any combination of video and audio encoding in any video file format. The Sony 4K players are probably more versatile than the Pannys when it comes to playing video files but their forcing you to turn Dolby Vision on and off manually is a major shortcoming. So if you're looking for a unit that you'll use purely for playing discs, the Pannys can't be beat.😅

I have an LGC1. Can I plug in both HDMI cables for video and audio directly into the TV without a receiver? I also heard there’s an issue playing back Blu-rays with DTS sound as the player doesn’t support DTS.🤔

In the settings when choosing display type, should I choose Super Bright LCD for the Vizio P Series Quantum X? I didn't get this player yet, just researching, also considering getting the Nakamichi soundbar, 800 watts, 10 inch subwoofer for $900.

I bought this same Player back in 2018 when it was originally launched, it was not available in my country so I had to Fly to Australia just to buy this and to buy my Yamaha RX V-685 receiver. I love this player, so smooth and the picture quality is pretty darn good. Apart from the network services menu which looks like a 80's game menu, everything else is just amazing. I bought this for 600 AUD brand new back in 2018.

I've had the UB420 for some time -- and it DOES have the HDR Optimizer. But I just bought this because the 420 doesn't have Dolby Vision (Criterion 4K discs only have Dolby Vision -- no "HDR").

I have this player and thank you with the setting. I did not know that you had to set it for OLED which is what I have. I watch Patriot Games twice and saw the difference in the picture. Though one thing the colors are not that deep but that is a 1980 picture and it was not in surround sound though the menus said it did. Now I will follow your instruction this evening, I did not know that it had a voice command. So I have to watch Star Wars and Devotion again and watch Battle Angel tonight

Panasonic n'a pas pensé à tout pour ce DP Ub820, car autant il est excellent en lecture blu ray 1080p/4k, autant il est médiocre pour la partie multimédia (les contenus DV passent en HDR et image noir, et ce sur tous les H265 DV, de plus ne reconnaît pas le DTS Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD, Dolby Atmos et ne reconnaît pas et ne lit pas les mkv h265 hybrides HDR/DV, alors que c'est parfaitement lu depuis mon Dune HD Max Vision 4K. Malheureusement, pour les mkv 1080p anciens et de qualité moyenne il n'y a pas le fabuleux post-traitement du Panasonic, cependant, pour les contenus 1080p, l'ancien haut de gamme Panasonic Dmp-bdt700 fait un bien meilleur travail au niveau du post-traitement image et SURTOUT, le UB 820 est trop cheap, vraiment bas de gamme au niveau de l'alimentation et de l'ensemble. Pour une utilisation essentiellement disque blu ray, il fait le job assez remarquablement, pour la partie multimédia il est médiocre. Et donc, il est tellement bas de gamme, si vous voulez du haut de gamme avec alimentation haut de gamme (et donc moins de bruit image), que vous ne regardez que du contenu disque 1080p/4K, je vous conseille vivement le UB 9000 largement plus haut de gamme que le UB820, il est de surcroît bien meilleur au niveau de la qualité sonore et montre une différence qualité image sur écran Oled 77 /83 pouces et davantage sur projecteur.
Ce qui m'a aussi exaspéré sur la télécommande du UB820, c'est qu'elle soit pas rétro-éclairée et que la touche Netflix soit mal positionnée (on appuie souvent dessus par inadvertance en utilisant le curseur). Ce qui m'a sidéré, c'est qu'en lecture multimédia , un banal LG, lisait tout ce que ne lisait pas le Panasonic en multimédia depuis un disque dur. L'image Panasonic est imbattable car la plus naturelle et avec pléthore de réglages tout en nuance...., par contre, Panasonic bâcle toujours autant la partie multimédia depuis un HDD. Les Oppo (d'occasion) et Pionner sont bien plus polyvalents (tout particulièrement pour la partie multimédia), en définitive, vers mon LG Oled 77CX, j'ai gardé le Panasonic UB9000 pour les films disque blu ray 4k et 1080p car son impressionnant, pour les contenus dématérialisés HDR 10 Plus, Dolby Vision et hybrides HDR /DV, le Dune HD Max Vision 4K qui délivre une image neutre et lit absolument tout sans le moindre bug, pour les vieux mkv 1080p de qualité moyenne, j'utilise l'excellent ancien haut de gamme Panasonic Dmp-bdt700 qui fait un formidable travail au niveau du post-traitement manuel (un vrai coup de jeune aux vieux mkv 1080p)..
Conclusion, le Panasonic UB820 est bien trop cheap avec une alimentation vraiment bas de gamme et une télécommande vraiment exaspérantre.....

A fundamental question, unfortunately the 1100 euro big brother 9000, on mkv movies from usb, does not emit high resolution audio, i.e. the dts-hd master audio, dolby atmos and dolby true hd are muted, they only work from the original blurays. Can you tell me if this model doesn't have this castration wanted by Panasonic on the 9000? Thank you!

This recently went on sale for $228CAD for an open box and I had a $50 coupon so that was my Christmas gift from my wife this year. Even though it said open box It came factory sealed. Mine has a brushed metal top.

I dont use an avr. I have an lg c2 77 inch with klipsch fives and rsl speedwoofer 10s mkii subwoofer. What's the best esy to hook this up without an avr. I have klipsch fives hooked to e-arc for sound. Can u help best way to hook it up? Or should i return this and get something else? I just bought it at best buy and it was 100.00 off. Recently purchased this unit going to pair it with a Samsung QN900B which does not support dolby vision, should i turn off dolby vision on the 4k bluray player or leave it on. Any help would be great ? Thanks.. Phil

I bought the ubx800 a couple yrs ago although a good picture I get annoyed it doesn't have a screen to show chapters, time etc.. I could have bought the oppo 203 but would of had to wait as none in stock...🙄
However I sold my older Panasonic 55ez952 oled and bought the 65inch hz2000 flagship which does all the hdr formats... I am amazed at the picture on this tv.. and am after the best picture I can get... would the ub820, reavon x100 or Panasonic ub9000 be best suited to my needs..?? I use a pioneer av receiver...
I also have a bit of a thing for build quality too the build on my tv remote is solid chrome and my reg free pioneer 1080p player next to the sony is great too.... any help be much appreciated 👍🏽

I've got the original Sony X800 Blu Ray Player. What's the comparisons between it and the X800 and X700 and X800m2 as far as picture quality and sound.

I don't even have this player (I have a much older Panasonic DMP-BDT220), but many of the settings are similar (chroma, PCM, etc). I'm running a very entry level 2.1 channel system (logitech z623) through an analog converter (optical to RCA), so i can only use PCM for now
