At around 52 minutes, Sam is describing exactly the effect Rene Girard describes in his theory of mimetic violence. After Christ, we've been on a steady trajectory of being unable to justify violence. I don't think we can actually go back to the dissociated state and any attempt to do that dehumanizes us.
