I've been told you can seal a pond by putting pigs in it to work the ground and seal it

Thanks for the great description of the pump!

The reason the 2nd pressure gauge was reading less than the first is because the 2nd was glycerin filled. The glycerin dampens the needle movement so it cannot show the actual peak pressure from a quick duration pressure spike.
The first gauge was not glycerin filled and will show a more accurate peak pressure reading.
Glycerin gauges are helpful when reading rapidly pulsating pressures, they average out the reading somewhat.

People always quibble with me when I call it a free energy device, which is what it is. It's free. You don't have to pay for it once you build the pump. Obviously, it's not free energy in the scammy sense.

Aussies used to use impulse pumps (which is what we call your 'ram pump) during the gold days. In fact, some pumps and lines are still up in the mountains. Creek would drive the first which would fire water 100ft up into the air into a resevoir, which would then drop it 30ft to another pump to fire up another 100ft and so on. Slow going, but it sure beat climbing the mountain every day for a drink. And they run constantly. Rumour mill says y'used to be able to hear the soft distant 'thonk' of impulse pumps all through the hills.

Edit: I think the impulse pumps I'm talking about were made of cast iron and used levers and shutters to work. I've not actually seen one in working condition. Just rusted lumps and bits of long cast iron pipes rusting quietly out of history. I suppose someone online here will know and someone may even have a restored one in working condition.

First i heared about a ram pump was in connection with the great pyramid, where an engineer saw the drawings of the shafts inside and recognized them immediately as such a pump. A couple xears later a working scale model was set up. It's not only pumping water but make the stones resonate in variable frequencies, according to the valve cycle. Highly compelling🤔

Water hammer happens in homes too, which is handled by bottles of air on lines - your washing machine is the worst typically and if you have PEX pipe or even copper you can hear pipes clank in the walls when you shut water off quickly

Well, idk, if this is just for animal drink, I’d set up a couple of drinking troughs which the pump would fill easily and not leak or evaporate much. Other options might be solar panel with an electric pump or a old timey wind driven piston pump. As an engineering project this was very interesting.

I've never used anything under a 2 inch pipe but I like to actually start off with 6 inch pipe and then step down in diameter to a 1-2 inch pipe. You can put 40 feet of 6 inch and then step down to 4 inch and another 40 feet and down.

I used to fight wildfire, and we'd have to pump water uphill all the time. If the input to the pump is larger than the output, you can do more meaningful work. Using 2 parallel half-inch lines reduces friction on the water column from a single 1 inch line. A coiled flat spot in the hose/line will act as a pressure relief reservoir. This means you can pump uphill further than otherwise. Make each subsequent flat coil location closer than the last. There is a limit, obviously, but you can increase that 50' of rise probably by double....

Unfortunately that is only about 2 hours of autonomy running a 8 amps. Some efficient refrigerators run around 6 amps. so you can get a little bit longer time perhaps 20 to 30 minutes max divide 6 into 16 so there you get just a little over 2 hours of run time and hopefully it has a cut-off threshold that will cut it off below 110 or you could damage your refrigerator your refrigerator

ZI made a pump that has no moving parts, use a no energy, a and can lift water atleast 8 ft above source and drop it back into source. I made 3 of them so far. Bigger the better so far. It's not fast but steady and CONTINUOUS! Up hill day or nite rain or shine hot or cold (above freezing atleast). It is so damn simple most will punch themselves in the head once they see it work. There was so much force exerted on first two units , they collapsed like a beer can under a tire. Olive drum was the first try but even that heavy plastic couldn't contain the force. Vacuum in the drum is emense. I worked on the two details that are most crucial for this to work for weeks. Still have more refining and testing and I'll give it to all for free. Anyone with give a shit and purpose can build this for diddly squat. What to use it for?? Constant reliable waterfall generator .

There is another design I found by an Australian plumber called a " Bunyip Pump" it is an ingenious, brilliant design that mechanically pumps water with more pressure and high head capacity. No percusive , reciprocating action. Uses no power and only needs a small source of running water like a stream to run this one. Self priming ,self start and stop . Just amazing. This man deserves a medal. It pumps like a muscle. Look them up. Mine and his used together could be used where there is no river , creek or lake. Make your own power plant with a kiddy pool and micro hydro generator. 24-7 current to a 16 battery bank and run your lighting and electrical on DC power. Can be done in a desert or a dark cave with no sun. Not solar. Reliable , kinetic power from trucking gravity. I punched myself first time I saw it work. I'm still recovering from a ad bike wreck that took my ability to use hands and walk. As soon as I get a bit better and more able to use tools , I will make a presentable unit and video that . Others have done this .I'm not so.e genius. I just am pissed at the energy barons and power mobsters. I want freedom for all .

Instead of the weights on the low-pressure output, a lever could be connected to a device, using the resistance to act as the weight, powering the other low-revolution machine. If that makes sense mate.

From an energy point of view, you’re basically moving water from an intermediate height to two other heights, one above and one below. Lots of ways to accomplish this utilizing the water’s own potential energy. A hydroelectric powered pump comes to mind, maybe even without electricity you could accomplish the movement mechanically using a gear reduction between spinning input paddles and spinning output pump. 🤷‍♂️

You made water hammer easy to understand. I've never needed to know. But now that I do it might help down the road. I have about an 1.5 acre pond but I doubt I'll ever need a ram pump as there are several natural springs that feed it. It never fully freezes stream going in and coming out. Hope you can get that guys pond holding water. It's amazing what kind of wild life you can attract. Right now I have a beaver and has made quite a mess for me and he needs to go. Good luck on your adventure.

Wouldn't you need another check valve at the end of your supply hose, before the ram pump, to make sure that your supply hose doesn't absorb some pressure backwards to the tank ?
