is the leica q2 a good value for $3700 used?

Nice video. Maybe a follow up comparing similar photos. I’ve had Q, Q2, many M’s. Now testing the X10lV. So far I like the functionality for the price of the X100 (floppy screen, 35mm, autofocus, presets, size and weight. The Q2 let’s in more light and has more blur in background. But it comes at a cost. Thanks again!

I love to use the 28mm focal length for landscapes.
I have 28mm lenses for my Nikon SLRs and my Contax rangefinders.
I do not have a 28mm lens for my Leica M6 and M10 rangefinders but I have consided buying one.
Right now, I would buy a Leica 28mm f/2.8 or a Voigtländer 28mm f/2.8 before I would buy a Leica Q, Q2, or Q3.

I’ve had a lot of great cameras. Some I have no emotional connection to. Others I do.

After many years, for personal photography, the enjoyment of the process (and camera) is most important.

Because if I enjoy it, I will shoot more. I will shoot better. And I will share them with people I care about, the enjoyment coming round circle.

Good review and some valuable information. I have M-E 220 with Orion-15. Not expensive in Leica prices. To have low budget 28mm camera, I added 100+USD Ricoh GRDIII with f1.9 lens, which is focusing something like two cm in macro mode. I use it for personal photos and even took it on three weeks trip. Worked well for me.

As an X-E3 ($300 usedI + glass) owner, I like that it's not laughable to compare an X-E4 to a Q2. Of course they aren't the same, but it's nice to not feel like us Fuji peeps are missing out. Great video! 📷

Fuji rocks. Leica for people who want to showcase money and faux nostalgia. Nothing to do with pic quality.

Very nice comparison, thanks Benj! I've owned a 100S from 2013 until it suddenly died in 2022, then the factory told me they no longer support the "S" but gave me a reconditioned 100V for my old S + $935. I've absolutely loved the V. Have both the WCL and TCL from the S, they still work fine on the V but get less use these days. IMO, if Leica came out with a Q3 that had a 35mm lens, I'd probably get in big trouble at home and buy it anyway. But truthfully for me, the V is almost everything I could ask for. BTW, some of your winter pics look vaguely like Minnesota. Where ?

I wonder how stupid it would be for me to spend 2k on a camera if I know barely anything about how a camera works other than zooming in and out and turning the flash on

Tremendous reviews and totally informative. Made the decision to buy Fuji 100V after watching your reviews about it. It should arrive tomorrow 11/25/2022. Will add comments after I have used it for a while. Keep up these really good reviews.

You did a good comparison of the cameras, but I would be interested in seeing a comparison of images between them. I’m really curious how the Fujifilm 18mm fares compared to other offerings including other full-frame 28mm lenses.

Why do the pictures ( in terms of focal length ) look different between the q2 and m10 with the 28 cron when they are both the same focal length ?

Does it have something to do with you cropping or something like that or is the q2 wider than 28 ?

Why did you not put the newer 18mm f1.4 on the X-E4? It is a marginal price bump. However, the technical quality is probably better than most of the lenses on the lineup. And it will still be cheaper and lighter than any of the other setups.

Now the xpro-3 is the best option for a mid budget camera that also lets you interchange lenses! If that’s what you’re looking for.
look/aesthetic, balance, af, and comparing to Leica, price!

I have the original Q and I got the x100V sometime later, for it’s size, really. Although the Q is more fun and demands a focus on higher contrast to the images, I can’t if I’m honest, tell an enormous differences in the images. Sure, there’s higher sharpness with the Q if you’re really pixel peeping and there’s the macro mode, but the similarity is so huge I sometimes forget which camera I used for certain kinds of images. So really, the price difference can’t be justified just for some manual focussing accuracy.

I got the Q2 color a few months ago and it is a pure joy. My main stills camera (and a significant video tool) is an old Canon 5Diii…the Leica is a different aesthetic. If the Fuji cams had larger frames, I’d sure look at them due to cost.

I wish I found this video sooner. I found it very difficult to find a review of a Leica product that didn't delve into the history of Leica and instead focused on the individual product itself.

I recently "invested" into the color version of the Q2 and the images are absolutely stunning with very little tweaking needed in post. I will say that the low light performance is not that great if digital noise is an issue for you (ive been spoiled by my Sony A7SIII). If that's the case, than I would go with the Monochrome version.

Great video! and looking forward to catching up on your content!

All the Leica rangefinder cameras are truly shit to use imo. They have these ridiculously tiny centre focusing rectangles which in low light and without sharp edges make focusing really difficult. And for what is aimed at street photographers, the Q2 M not to have a tiltable screen is bonkers. That said, when you nail the focus the images can be truly unsurpassed... If you like B&W the Q2M is by far and away the best available...It's time Fuji responded...

The Leica is stupid expensive for what it does and is. And I can afford multiples of them, but wouldn’t even bother. I love their old film cameras and own several.

Interesting video! I started using Leica in 1968. I’ve had my current M3 for over 40 years. I’ve looked at digital Leica more than once. I can easily afford one, but I can’t justify one, even though my wife encouraged me to buy one.

Luckily I found Fuji. I started with the E3 and now have an E1, E2s and H1. I’d love to add a 100V. I find my E series cameras a much fun to use as my M3. Results are great as well.

I own a Q2. I don't have much money, but, to me, money is no object. I think the same goes for people who ride motorcycles, gun enthusiasts, car enthusiasts, ham radio people, etc, etc... Plenty of regular folks spend tons of money on their hobbies. If you think about it, Q2 is a small amount of money compared to other hobbies such as restoring a classic car or taking a hunting trip to Africa. I spent $6k. How long will it give me great joy? 15-30 years? Maybe until I die?
