I think the saddest thing is seeing Roger Ebert sat alone in the studio. I was so used to seeing the two of them together.
ОтветитьWhy did so many people love them? Because they were genuine. Pretty simple, but exceedingly rare.
Ответитьin memory of gene siskel
ОтветитьRoger hitting a perfect lay up and Siskel with assist is awesome I know they doing that some where around universe
ОтветитьI grew up with these two and felt a certain loss, when they both passed. I loved both as critics. But, I had a certain affection for roger, because, while I respected and learned the beauty of foreign and independent films from both, I felt roger, even more than Gene, could appreciate a great commercial film.
ОтветитьRIP Gene Siskel
1946-1999.
I was watching their Peewee's Big Adventure review today when I got the news Paul Ruben passed. I was reminiscing about Gene and Rodger sad about their passing so many years ago just to feel the shock of losing Paul moments later.
ОтветитьRest in peace to this beautiful man.
He showed me that loving cinema is a cool thing.
I really liked Siskel, he balanced Ebert out, things were never the same without him
ОтветитьYou can watch over time where they didn't care much for one another and then to love and respect.
It's really emotional to watch ebert talk about his partner he didn't want that became a friend.
Feels like we got to be part of their world.
It's something we are really missing from television, people with honest opinions and no political agenda.
Now if Gene told Oprah she wasn't going to win ... he'd be an alt right Trump supporting pyscho that was doing hitlers bidding
ОтветитьFar, far too young. Both Siskel and Ebert should still be here today.
Ответитьvery sad that both died of horrible cancer. Roger explained ,when he was in the early times of his illness, that he was exposed to radiation as a young boy.
ОтветитьI miss them both.
ОтветитьNow these two are up in Heaven, laughing about all the hardships they had in their lives (and probably still bantering with eachother).
Ответить“I came up with that idea……and before me the Romans” 😂
ОтветитьI miss both of these fine men. 😞
Ответить🫶
ОтветитьI like to think that when you die you’re reunited with the others who passed. When Roger died gene was waiting for him on the other side. No one ever replaced these 2… not even close. RIP
ОтветитьI remember sitting in a theatre during previews after Gene's death, and during the theatres previews, it flashed something like "farewell Gene Siskel" before the film started.
Ответить❤
ОтветитьIn Loving Memory Of Gene Siskel (1946-1999) And Roger Ebert (1942-2013)
ОтветитьI always thought they looked best as Ernie and Bert.
Ответитьi have to be honest there's been countless films where i just was thinking to myself "when did this come out?" oh damn Gene already passed he didn't even get to see it. and same with Roger now
Ответить🙁 I am in my thirties and I remember seeing Siskel and Ebert printed on my old VHS boxes that I still own. Despite it being over and done with, it is heartbreaking that Gene died way too soon and when Roger died years later. The world needs Siskel and Ebert more than ever! I realize that neither critic can return, however we can remember them a lot when both critics were alive as much as we would love to.
ОтветитьSuch a shame, too soon. I do wonder at times what he would have thought of a lot of certain movies that came out after his passing, such Star Wars Prequels, Lord of the Rings Trilogy, The Dark Knight films, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, Last Samurai, Avatar, Jason Bourne movies, I clearly could keep naming more movies. And sadly we will never know 😭
ОтветитьI was a WV transplant to Chicago after college, and who loved these guys, especially Roger. This lovely tribute shows why I thought so much of Roger, and to whom I most closely relate. We were nearly the same age, both came up in small cities, both settled in Chicago, and to whose sensibilities I closely related. And though we lived a few blocks from each other, we never met.
Ответить"Scarface is the most boring movie I have ever seen, thumb down" - Siskel.
ОтветитьThose really were good ol' days. Once upon a time it was possible for two adults to argue, have different opinions, respect and appreciate one other, without static, automatic hatred. Sigh
ОтветитьI haven’t wept so openly for anything since my grandfather’s funeral. Damn. These two guys have come to mean so much to me and I didn’t even know they existed when this was made.
ОтветитьI can't believe it's been 25 years now since Gene passed. I still remember where I was when I heard the news. I still miss him today, but I'm so glad there are videos like this to remember him by.
ОтветитьI would play Gene Siskel.
ОтветитьThese two were meant to work together!!! RIP to Roger and Gene.
ОтветитьI can’t believe this man passed away 25 years ago.
Ответитьchicago 2 news. Wow Walter Jacobson that brings me back
ОтветитьThings like this don't exist anymore, and can't. Newspapers? Journalism? God, I miss the 90s. Nothing in the world is worth your attention anymore.
ОтветитьThe end of it always gets me. I can't help it, it made me cry.
ОтветитьGene taken away so young !!.
ОтветитьI did not always agree with Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert but I always enjoyed their show and respected their opinions.
ОтветитьThey are still Legends that cannot be duplicated, they were meant to be together and were so entertaining to listen to and watch. RIP to Both of The Originators.
