Finding a "comparable" welder from just looking at the mfg printed specs isn't very useful. I was hoping to see some actual experience with the tool.

Been welding for 15+years. I have the 2018 version of AHP AC/DC TIG welder. Best duty cycle, functions, and price point in my opinion.

I'm rereading the Hobbit at age 40. My fascination of Tolkien's invented world, it's history, and languages is almost unlimited. But what struck me today was the inherent differences in the races that have kingdoms. They're very different. Elves and Dwarves have a finer palettes than men, for example. The men of the lake gave Thorin and company something called "cram". It's basically stale bread that doesn't spoil in your pack for long periods of time. Whereas, the wood elves of Mirkwood forest basically feast every night. They way they construct their homes is distinct, too. The Dwarven construction is more squared and mathematical, and Men constructs are more utilitarian. Elvish dwellings are earthy and natural and enchanted with ancient magic. It's really fascinating if you take the time to pick up on the subtle nuances that Tolkien puts into middle earth. There are very few inconsistencies. It's like he gave specific traits or inherent habits or natures to the races that make them distinguishable and different. Not superior. Just inherently different.

I purchased a Everlast 221 STI back in 2017. It will do everything you have described but all in one machine. It is a AC/DC machine with High frequency start tig as well as lift start or scratch start. It has different wave forms and pulse tig features as well as the AC output or aluminum. In fact in its day it was the very first multi process machine to have AC/DC functions. It came with a Nova high quality foot pedal and everything to start tig welding. Mig welding it holds a 10 pound roll and has all advanced options except pulse mig. Then It comes with the stinger and stuff to run on stick as well. Very smooth and advanced stick with hot start a dig mode and set up for 6010 welding rods as well. I paid $2200 but it has been replaced with a lighting MTS 225 now $2000. But it is 100% the same machine as mine but with a nicer interface. But it has all the same options as mine. My first Multi process machine ever too for myself. but I have welded professionally for years and am SO VERY impressed. It comes with a nice $200 Nova pedal but I have replaced the tig torch and mig gun as I wanted nicer ones.

I have never used a yes welder machines but I have used some of their other products and am impressed with the info they give on their machines as well. If someone wants to spend less money... But I would put my Everlast up against any and all welders specked out the same. Lincoln, Miller or what ever. Everlast is a quality made machines.

I just play around in my home shop. Got a Century FC-90 that is the handiest little go anywhere machine and an old Clarke(out of business now) ACDC buzzbox I scored off FB Marketplace for $40 so I can tackle anything bigger if I need to. I also scored a 1990 Lincoln Weld&Power 9Kw unit that I am refreshing. Mainly got it for the generator side but I am going to set it up to at least stick weld in the field if I ever need to.

Any DC machine that stick welds will also Tig with a scratch start Tig rig. But usually you don’t get features like lift start, high frequency start and AC current. So no aluminum Tig. Ive been trying out the yeswelder machines. I have their 55 amp plasma cutter and a 250amp MiG welder. I use it for hobby stuff. They seem pretty decent for a beginner trying to get into welding. Only time will tell if they stand up to the abuse.

I have a titanium unlimited 200 from harbor freight and a Lincoln ac225 tombstone welder.both work great for all my welding needs. Also have the titanium plasma cutter. Has worked flawlessly. I learned how to tig on a pipe job running tig adapter off a Lincoln s.a. 300 long hood, so I'm used to the scratch start and pop out of it that the titanium welder has. I don't do aluminum, but if I ever need to, I'll just go buy the spool gun, or a bottle of helium if I want to dc tig it.

I’m not a welder yet, i have yet to take a class either; i have plans to, in about 8 months through a local technical school. But from just watching different videos of how people prefer to weld, i can see that the machine you use for welding is basically just an investment in practicality vs quality of job.

Basically, go with a machine that serves your style of welding, and from there you can start to explore if you want to get more advanced machines or not. After all, if you can’t/don’t do any other weld types, there’s really no point of getting a machine that does it all. Unless you’re going to just completely cheap out on your budget, the quality comes from your experience more times than not.

(Correct if i’m wrong though. At the time being, i’m just an avid learner looking to get into the basics still)

love my everlast machines!! Powertig 210EXT... just upgraded to 325EXT over the holiday... <2K!!! 325 amp tig.... less than 2K... what?? it's awesome. just received it the other day. but... unless you need to do thick aluminum. 210EXT is probably all you would ever need.

I'm new to the welding world. Do these machines use gas? Do you attach a gas canister to them, or does the welding only happen due to electrical current?

I don't plan on buying another TIG welder when I bit the bullet and got what I needed to do it all... Everlast 255EXT
I don't run MIG much, a little Miller or Lincoln unit is easy too find everywhere in stock $450 - $600... Ideally, an old transformer based unit is best because MIG is so freaking dirty...
TIG still has the price barrier, but it's not what it used to be 25 years ago! Camaro or a TIG welder... 🤔😲 20k was the norm.

Learned tig on a Miller 320, back when they were powered by steam. Welded everything that I could stick together, sometimes not so well. With the help of a guy who could weld in his sleep, I got better. Got into welding sandrail frames with old reliable, Lincoln 225. Recently picked up a Primeweld Ac/DC 225. Use it solely for tig, on stainless, aluminum and steel. I am very impressed with this machine. It shipped in a bullet proof box, came with a real manual, and everything I needed with the exception of an argon tank and filler rods. It can run on 110v, but as others have said these inverter type machines prefer 220v. Now I am happily sticking tungsten with my old eyeballs as the cause, not the machine!

I bought a welder, it did gasless and gassed and you could attach a tig gun to it . Did a test weld to make sure I still had the skills, went out a week later and yea I'd been robbed of my air comp and welder. I'm not looking for sympathy but yea it sucks. It fken sucks. Maybe I'll take out another five hundred in savings to get another one, Maybe.

If you like Eastwood, Weldpro machines are made by the same Linlong Chinese company. I got the Tig 200GD because of its size, price, digital interface, and came with a CK torch. Amazon was able to ship it to my location (Guam), all the other machines i have to use a freight forwarder to get them. So tig200gd it is.

I'd love to find a do all multipurpose welder that does all very well and does it well consistently
. The idea of saving space in my shop that is currently taken up by several very old reliable machines that each do a process appeals to me very much.
But then I'm always gonna need a small inverter stick welder and a 120v wire feed welder that you can take out of the shop lol
