I was a biology teacher going into the pandemic. I studied and got my Security + and became a Project Coordinator then I moved up to Programmer Analyst within a couple years. I feel like I ended up where I belong. Just buckle down and study.

What I find astonishing is the average salary for helpdesk analysts in the UK compared to the US. After finishing an apprenticeship in IT (with the same company) I was earning £19,000 (this was around 18 months ago). This was also a company that had been in and out of the FTSE 100. The average salary for a Service Desk Analyst in USA is $40,000... Bonkers. I have since left the company that trained me.. which is sad. But I also now earn a lot more and have better future prospects.

Hi All, I currently have some strong foundations of IT with some personal projects/experience as well as CompTIA ITF+ and Security+ certificates, but Chuck doesn't mention it much on here. I was wondering if I should commit to learning and working towards A+ or if I could get an entry level position with what I have. Any help/feedback is greatly appreciated, thank you!

I’m a former developer turned UX/Product designer. Not seeing this profession on the list confounds me. Without knowing of where the product should go – no vision. I’ve seen companies develop a lot of stuff without a vision (and Birds Eye view) or understanding customer/user needs and they often lose a lot of money… Some even fail completely without understanding why. Just saying.

Love the channel!

I purchased my first personal computer back in 1986 and was hooked. That PC started me on a career in IT for the next 40+ years before retiring. I started on a help desk and worked my way up to Senior Network Engineer for a major telecommunications company in the mid west. The IT business has changed dramatically over the years and I keep up with changes now days by operating my home network and doing some light consulting for local businesses. IT is a great career to get into for anyone interested in computers!

I've been helpdesk for too long admittedly, but I started at 12 an hour and currently make 69k yearly, only have experience and and a few comptia certs. I'm headed towards cybersecurity but I could certainly do helpdesk until retirement at this point.

I jumped in head first in tech. After a few years of hopping around different fields but spending most in operations, I came across software development and fell in love. It was a long journey of learning, soul searching, struggling to stay drive , and emotional turmoil BUT I’m so happy to say I landed my first Software Engineer position last week! ZERO IT experience and ZERO degree. It’s crazy the rollercoaster life can take you on.

Help desk is getting more and more technical as the lines between 1st and 2nd level support are blurring lol. The typical scripted call center jobs of yesterday will be almost completely performed by AI tomorrow.

This is an amazing list. But a Q from a rather confused 32 year "IT" fella. Does this mean going the route like being a Motion Graphic Designer not quite advisable as a full time career? I am not the best when it comes to networking & I am $!&t at programming. However, I have always had a passion in ART and I feel like this path is best suited for me.
