This isn't cheating then. It's immoral a/f, and if caught and THEN banned, I get it completely, but he didn't cheat, and you can't deny that. I would never do it, I'm on the side of those who are wronged by this, I'm only pointing out that the HUSTLER (not cheater) was right, and he didn't break any posted rules....

I started fishing late in life. But have become almost obsessed with it and as an athlete who has from birth been ultra competitive. I don’t understand how someone can cheat. It sickens me to hear that. I enjoy your videos and would like to fish with you one day

Love your stories Randy. When I was much younger I fished fruit jar tournaments with a friend . The lake was over populated with small bass. We found a place that held large bass and won two tournaments in a row. Fisherman were saying to themselves that we must be cheating and that hurt. I was very proud to have won against these fishermen. After my friend started winning regional tournaments did they find out we weren’t cheating. Still bothers me to this day.

Any time there’s money involved, it suddenly is no longer fun. When people start showing up from long distances, they aren’t there for fun.

I wonder how prevalent cheating is in fishing it seems to be very easy especially if you don’t use way too much you could get away with it as long as they don’t cut the fish open afterwards.

The stuffing sinkers into fish is a common thing. My friend fishes pay lake catfish tournaments. Yes I know….but anyway, he was beaten by a guy that caught the same fish he had caught earlier in the day but it weighed a pound and a half more.

I quit fishing one day when I was shore fishing (too poor to have a boat) and uncomfortable from my lack of success. Then as I almost inhaled one more flying bug I got disgusted and thought what am I doing out here, unable to outsmart a fish? That was my last time fishing, ever, about age 30. I took up sport and wildlife photography and birdwatching instead, activities much cleaner that fishing, and much more satisfying, to me at least.

I looked at an update & the prosecutors’ “bargain” from John Crews website, 4/5/2023. It's a joke! Jacob Runyon, Broadway Heights, Ohio & Chase Kaminski, Heritage, Pennsylvania were charged with grand theft and both possessing criminal tools. gave up their fishing license for 3 years, Kaminski gave them a boat valued at supposedly $100,000, and both would have 6 months probation. Charges of grand theft and possession of criminal tools were dropped. They added that if they complete their probation that the case be “expunged.” SO, no record? Sentencing to be 5/11/2023. That’s a joke. I wrote an essay but I doubt anyone would want to read it. However, I thought about what a “punishment” for me would be re: something like this. I think having all my fishing gear taken from me would be devastating. There are so many memories involved with my tackle, no matter how often you fish, I would see it as my biggest loss in this type of setting(not looking at family, etc.). Are these “prosecutors” looking at this as “oh well, let’s go to the next case?” I listed many reasons & punishments in my “essay.” Let me know if anyone interested. Any ideas on what we can do or do you think the punishment fits the crime? Other additions, loss of license ≥10 years, community service yearly at fish & game dept., try to track down the person behind them in larger tournaments and ? Reparation.
Also this needs to go to trial. They need to be seen by ++++ people for what they've done

Hiding fish in a basket was actually quite common in the eighties in North Texas tournaments. Seems like every month or so someone got caught cheating. Any time there's money and or recognition involved, people will cheat. Hat's off to all you guys who fished your fingers to the bone and finished your careers with your integrity in tact.

anything you enter to compete against others for money you'll have cheaters. Anyone who will cheat at something that isn't even a money event will cheat in a money event and the world is rife with cheaters.

I been bass fishing along time and the guy people are mentioning I remember the story other than I read 55 gallon drops in tree tops and way back under tree branches hanging over near the shore the main thing I wanted to mention almost 100 percent sure he said he was in a horrible boat accident and he could not fish he said someone strung a cable across a creek and it got him and he had a broken back or neck I don’t know if it was before he got caught or it was something he made up to try and cover his ass to why he stopped fishing

I beg to differ on your statement that cheating on a fishing tournament is a victimless crime. Every angler pays money to fish in these tournaments. I've fished in tournaments that were sponsored by a mom & pop tackle shop with a small entrance fee to the White Marlin Tournament which you literally can spend thousands of dollars per angler to fish. The crime of theft is not victimless because the thief is stealing money that was not his. So every angler is a victim of his crime. Please think a little more before you make such statements.
